Description
Power tends to corrupt, absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely. The power of magic is never-ending, and so is its corruption.
That's what every single thinking being will tell you. And yet, when you want to touch that unreachable person, the only thing you can believe in is yourself. Even if nothing of you remains at the end.
Velvet, a novice magician, has a dream.

- moonsterdarkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I loved it, it's one of the rare novels where the MC is truly smart, instead of being a normal guy surrounded by idiots.
The power system makes sense, the politics is logical, and the MC motivations aren't empty and shallow.
Overall masterpiece, I'll wait for the coming chapters with eagerness. - crazy cupcake wizardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm genuinely shocked at the low view count on this story compared to others. The main character is unique and actively entertaining, the world created is only shared in tid bits so that it feels feels constantly magical, and the plot is a continuous build up with an obvious plan in mind.
Really, the only thing I could complain about would be the slightly awkward wording, but it's obvious in the beginning, and gets gradually better.
Give this one a shot. I believe myself to be fairly picky when it comes to stories on this site, but this one grips my interest like very few others. - ChangelingCharmRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is very exciting and fun to read! Many stories here make me feel like it's a chore to get to the good parts of them, but Cartaflore doesn't have that problem, the setting is extremely interesting, but we aren't bogged down by worldbuilding, we learn what we need to know when we need to know it. Overall, it's very attention grabbing and I love the protagonist. She's not extremely powerful, but she is smart and self assured which are qualities I love in a protagonist. I sometimes feel like she is a little too unfazed by certain events, but I believe there are reasons in the story for that, and at the same time I appreciate her mercenary nature. I think her idiosyncrasies like her preclusion with hats and style, as well as her sarcasm give her a lot of character. If I had to give any criticism at all, I would say that sometimes the protagonist is handed things too easily, making her victories feel a little cheap, but I think that is mostly a problem in earlier chapters. In the later chapters, her successes feel well deserved for all the trouble she goes through. I definitely recommend this story and I really look forward to reading more of it when it comes out!!
- FastFoodNationRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fun, witty, smart, relatable, hat-wearing, crazy magican on her way to leave a mark on the world.
All the characters feel realistic, the banter is superb, the worldbuilding phenomenal, the magic system is unique.
She stumbles from one adventure to next so there is never a boring moment. We see a lot of the world. Also a lot of interesting people on the way.
It's a bit not really coming of age, more what comes after. There is only one other beautiflul story like this on Royal Road. I thinks it's publishable with some editing, but what do I know about grammer. Really, really recommended. Thank you so much for providing the story! - KyotaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Took a bit to get past my initial distaste for the third person style of narration but once I did I quickly found it near impossible to put down. I love my shifters of characters and my gremlins who piss people off and they're here in spades and well written at that (they actually feel like people). The various character dynamics are very fun and the magic system is interesting.
- LadyFffireRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It gives me the same vibes that lord of the mysteries gave me except I'm a lot less utterly lost on what's going on when reading this.
The dream is interesting, the powers are interesting, overall I think this should definitely be even more popular than it is. Go read it. - MrXeriosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Everything is in the title, but I need 50 words.
The MC seems like an actual nice person, but her complete lack of hesitation to visit suffering on her ennemies while staying overtly friendly is reaaally fun to read. Grammar is nice, style is a bit confusing at time, especially during dialogs. The world building and magic system is quite interesting, too. - NylyxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The first book has been completed, so this is as good a time as any for writing a review.
There won’t be any major spoilers (those who don’t get revealed in the first few chapters).
TLDR: Don’t despise school arc’s? Want regular chapters? Plunge in and absorb the text.
Style:
The author doesn’t use flowery prose (except in some dialogue, but that’s in character), uses concise sentences, and writes something my deficit attention span can handle.
Later in the book the conciseness goes a bit down (longer paragraphs), but overall it’s effects are petite.
The main reason it isn’t 5/5 is because sometimes the paragraphs don’t flow that well. They still flow, but like the water in a river with a 100° bent. This is rare though, and gets rarer as the chapter count rises.
4.5/5
Grammar: (I’m including spelling in this one)
The grammar is pretty much all correct. You will not get MTL psychosis from this one (I will eat my cat if you do).
The author isn’t a native English speaker (or writer), but the few faults that there are get corrected once pointed out in the comments.
4.5/5
Story: (I can include worldbuilding in this one)
The book can be divided in two parts:
-Pre-Mergifari
-Mergifari
I love the first, and the second lessened my hate for
School arcs
by a substantial degree. One thing you should take away from the blurb is that
mages aren’t really humans, in any sense that’s not biological
. Only once I understood this, did I feel like I understood what was going on.
One thing that I really, really like about this webnovel is the fact that the author shows restraint in revealing the world. All the “infodumps” in the beginning are only there to explain the common sense that even a teenage orphan knows, but after that? Utter excellence.
The main plot is revealed early on
hint: last line of the synopsis.
, but is supplemented by the usual politics and filler. Due to the excellent pacing however, it feels like it’s woven into the plot. I don’t really know how to describe it, so - Seeker_AkaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0it looks like Christmas came early for me because this book is a gift. The characters and the interactions, the plot, the lord the magic system, it’s all great.
it manages to swathe itself in this semi-eldritch wrap stuffed full with interesting mysteries and power system dynamic. The fight scenes are exciting and cool and flow smoothly without bogging down the mind whiles still having interesting abilities without feeling dopey.
the grammar is good, though I’m not an expect by any means but if the are some egregious mistakes I’m not seeing them.
the characters are interesting feeling distinct and have some depth to them.
the story flows well making it easy to follow and the writing style is good .
My brain is already shutting down, too many words typed at once. Anyways if I’m right about some of the inspirations especially the lord of the mysteries one it would make this one of the best I’ve read from most of the stories inspired by it. I truly do hope to see where the story carries us to the end.
Damn you 200 word limit!! Do not read past this!!

it manages to swathe itself - Sidders1943Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I binged the whole thing in a day and I quite like it, there are two main issues, one being that the main character takes the piss all the time, so if that's not your cup of tea, give this a miss.
The world is very compelling and well thought out and I believe this requires mentioning on a site that is infested with numbers go up, which has its place, but I am a fan of more abstract magic than big numbers win.
The second one is kinda spoilery so stop reading this review and go read it if the first paragraph didn't put you off this story is better than the vast majority on this site hence the five stars. Or don't, it's up to you.
The 'gods but more fundamental' are described as being so powerful that people die due to their presence or go insane or they kill people on a whim. The MC is immune to this and I'm not sure if it's ever explained properly why or how. It sort of irks me because I think there's probably a reason somewhere that I missed to do with the whole dream situation.
Anyhow it is enjoyable enough, but I do hope the MC matures just a little at some point.
