- LonosicRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0While reading, I appreciated the story and world building put into the story. The government system, the tech, pretty great. One thing that I found neat was the introduction of MechTech BattleWarrior. Allowing for an A plot of the kingdom building while a B plot plays showing the MC learning how to fight whilst showcasing how warfare works and the equipment used in battle.
Though a small critic for me is the pacing of the story seems to be going a bit too fast with quick jumps from one point to another, but in the end it isn't something big and works with how it seems to me the story is going. Overall, I pretty neat story that I will put in my follow list - frankinnolaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Off to a good start for this novel. So far no fantasy setting but sci-fi themes so far. A young noble has to rebuild a world his father destroyed. It is well written with good dialogue, has interesting characters to support the MC. Should be an interesting journey for the MC, no easy path for the MC
- Harvest SeasonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Caledon's Fall is a great novel. It shows the Author's progress as a writer, with better grammar and style than his previous book. I've followed the Author's other Novel 'Saga of the Twin Suns' and subscribed to his Patreon to read ahead for both.
The Story is interesting, with kingdom building, and later he adds some Gamelit elements. Excited to see how it progresses. - DarbOvRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So far it is quite well written likely from their experience. The concept is interesting being a likely semi-world/kindgom building genre with the universe as the setting. The quality is good+ and though short now it is likely to grow quickly
I hope to see how far everything goes and if honor and position will be restored through action! - jmc5003Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I enjoyed reading this book and would definitely check out a sequel. Gotta admit, the author surprised me with a few of the plot twists. Needs some work on grammar and word choice, but overall, well done! To the author: Please continue to write. Your story lines are interesting and your skills in telling your stories will do nothing but increase.
- WintydunnoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I really like this story, despite the flaws.
As mentioned, a lot of events take place in a VR game. There are in-story reasons for them to use the VR world, but I feel some parts of the story drag on too much in there while the real-world events - the main part of the story! - are pushed to the sidelines. The goal is for the MC to learn how to pilot mechs and build up to that but it starts with him shooting rodents with a rifle. So there's like a progression element in the VR element.
Kaledon interacting with people, scheming, turning enemies into allies, building an army and maneuvering it is all very interesting. There are possibly a bit too many moments of extreme convenience, hidden stockpiles of money, hidden stockpiles of weapons, hidden stockpiles of information, all that he knows about and pulls out to fix issues a little too fast. I feel that this fights against the wonderful worldbuilding, making these obstacles feel too easily surmounted.
This point, however, swings around later in the novel when the hidden secret weapon ends up being something very different than what the main character first suspected. It's a good trick on the reader and I liked it a lot.
I feel that the story suffers from having too many ideas that muddy the waters and belittle how good the base story is.
I want to emphasize that this is a very fun read in spite of all of these flaws. - NavieRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0To me the premise is unique enough to where it feels like it's never been done on RR but these hits of a classic Sci-fi story.
The world building is good, The Author does a good job with dropping you into the story while also having the unfold to you the reader.
The Mc is well driven and that's what great stories are made of, He's humble enough but also has an edge to him that you can't help want to see him lean into at times.
The biggest thing for me is the anticipation building around the Mc, You'll understand when you read but This is a classic rags to Riches with high beam guns and Mechs. - RakhmamortRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0One of the few good mecha stories around and there are very very few of them.
However, the 'pace' is too fast with regards to kingdom building. It would be more realistic if that period was extended to a couple of years or even a decade.
There's also the part where it looked like assault mechs are far more manouverable than light mechs which is illogical. - GheldanRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This story feels very much like old Mechwarrior novels. Neo-feudalism, mechs with different weight classes, charmed MC that can do no wrong. It ticks all the boxes.
Unfortunately while I love the bones of Mechwarrior I'm not a huge fan of some of the common tropes. Most particularly the overly blessed MC. So the MC has a tragic backstory, parents were crazy, he was punished for a crime he didn't commit. But this all happens early on. After that so far it has been mostly smooth sailing for him. Yes the author has done their best to throw up roadblocks and to give the hint of danger but honestly the MC is so charmed and so perfect that at no point do I feel that he is in any danger or that he will even make a mistake that he can't recover from.
If you like perfect, overpowered MCs this might be for you. But if you want believable characters with actual challenges and who make mistakes then I'd give this a pass. - Gh0stP3nguinRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Starts out very intersting, good writing.
Good Characterdevelopment, good Sidecharacter are fleshed out and fit good into the story.
Story itself is very interesting, personaly i extremly dislike the heavy focus on virtual reality, its even missing the tag for it.
Missing the virtual reality tag.
Isnt labeled correctly, as later on half the chapters are about a virtual game.
