Classic portal litrpg fantasy but so well done. The « i don’t know the language » plot is executed perfectly. The MC is likable and i really much like how the cultural shock is represented :-)
Strongest point for me: The system. It’s awesome and original (it’s a job system).
Fair warning the MC is OP, but not really because he is too strong, more because everyone else is really weak.
    strongly recommend !

Be careful this book will pull you in and you will find yourself getting very angry. I advise you to put it down and walk away before doing something as rash as giving it a poor review.
Rarely does a book create such strong reactions and the amount of investment I (and from what it looks like others) involved getting is kind of ridiculous.
You will end up caring about these characters their misfortune and character flaws will get to you so be prepared.
I actually had to stop for a while and come back later. Thank you kelemit with all my love and hate thank you

The MC is Wholesome. The magic system is mysterious. The conflict is about personal relationships and an MC who is trying to figure out how to be his best self. In a place where people don’t even read, education is the MC’s real superpower.
I’ll add that I like it that martial arts in this book is treated like the athletic and long term study it actually is, rather than a throwaway montage and prepackaged system skills.
The writing is only ok, but I’m not going to take points off here: the earnestness of the effort and the metric ton of updates make for a readable binge. Maybe it’s not for everyone, but I like it.

    Overall:
I liked the story. It was fun and I wanted to read the next chapter to see what happened next. It isn't perfect, but it was enough to keep me wanting to read again and again. The story is pretty long though, and has a lot of details. If you don't like details or a lot of specifics, it might not be fun. But, all of the details seem to teach about the world somehow, so they are useful if you can understand or start to put together the world.
    Style:
Maybe this is where I am a little bit unhappy. Like I said, it is very detailed and if you do not like details, it can become long. But the details seem to be important. They do not just describe to be visual. They seem to hint at things or describe the world so you understand it a little more. But, it is a long and detailed story.
    Grammar:
Here, the author has many mistakes, several in each chapter. But, he did warn that he wasn't going to focus much on the mistakes. The mistakes seem to be misspellings or accidental wrong words. The grammar is pretty clear and so it is easy to understand what he actually means. So you are able to substitute the correct word when he misspells or uses the wrong word. I haven't seen a wrong word being used consistently. It seems a bit random, so more of a mistaken word or something than incorrect words used. But, they are still mistakes so I have to take off some points here.
    Story:
The story is really cool. And explaining the system is really cool, too. It's obvious that the main character has to understand and see it for himself. It's interesting to see him having to do it by himself because nobody can explain it to him. He doesn't know their language to speak with them, so... that makes a lot of sense. Sometimes, a lot of stories like this just ignore the language problem. It's fun to see a bit more realistic example.
He also doesn't always just fight and fight and fight... although he is fighting a lot in the story, the author starts telling other events and important moments an

If you’re a fan of early Delve or other number/math heavy RR stories, then I strongly recommend checking out But For a Slime. It reminded me strongly of these types of stories, except with actual action and high stakes violence.
The lead character, Matt, is a modern day martial artist who finds himself in a Litrpg world that has been crippled due to the System. While not always the smartest character (you will find yourself yelling at him about simple things that he just can’t seem to put together) he is at least consistently obtuse. Not to say he is dumb or unintelligent, rather he seems to have some, shall I say, quirks, due to his upbringing. Outside of social interactions he is a survival and fighting savant, however. Overall, experiencing the world Joe has found his way to through his eyes is a treat.
Other characters are extremely fleshed out, with them being consistently written. Sometimes I find myself hating their decisions, but it always makes sense in regards to the world the author has built, as well as the characters themselves.
Overall this book is severely underrated and I think it deserves to be read by a much bigger audience. Fun fights, a well thought out system, and a story that you can tell was planned instead of adlibbed chapter to chapter.
Couple points that may turn you off initially: The prologue is tonally much different than the vast majority of the chapters. Power through if it is not your cup of tea. Also, in the early chapters the author has a tendency to reuse descriptive words repetitively. This fades away as the author gets more experience and I now find myself sucked in without issues with grammar or style.
5 out of 5 for me, go ahead and give it a shot, I promise it is worth it!

Something I want to clear up before everything else. Everyone hates the MC, but don't notice that Joe is 18, never had a job, never managed money, never did anything. He is not dumb. He is just a kid. Come on! Note, I think that you should start management at around 15 or 16, but I understand that 18 is young in today's standards.
    Style:
First, it is very long. Like Wheel of Time long. If you like long books, and long chapters, then this is for you. However, it has no fluff. Everything he writes is actually useful to the world-building. It is just a long, detailed book with no fluff. Secondly, the author writes as if it is a real world. It considers the philosophy, it considers the culture, it considers almost everything.
    Story:
The book, at least to me, does culture very well. Like, slavery, execution, apprenticeship. It has a meld of Asian culture, and European culture such as the Asian part of honor the strong, don't say anything bad about anybody, etc. There are some philosophical debates that are very interesting because they have different cultures.
Another thing is that they are illiterate, which makes sense if you have magic books that just imprint the knowledge into your brain, and if you are poor, how would you have time to create writing, when you are barely paying of the taxes and feeding your children?
Another thing that is different from LitRPGs, is the fact that most of them, a class is your job forever, but in this one, you swap between jobs. There are no stat points, you just get them from leveling. Titles are a little different, they don't give stats, they give you buffs.
Fight scenes are pretty cool, and even though they aren't perfect, fight scenes are very hard to make, especially since it takes five paragraphs to explain thirty seconds of fighting.
Language makes sense. Joe doesn't know the language as soon as he gets there. He doesn't learn it in a couple days. No, Joe learns the basics after a couple weeks. After three to four months, he can

    Overall:
I want to know more! Bottom line, that's what I want I think as I learn more about the world. the world building is deep and even simple statements or descriptions throughout the story hint at a deep background. Even the prologue hasn't even come up yet, which for some is not good. For me, it excites me as it points to a deep lore that only grows deeper and deeper as I learn and read more
    Style:
Probably one of the areas I may not really agree with, but the author really gets into the details. He seems to enjoy it, so for those who like details, this is for you. I don't mind many of them and even enjoy most. Some of the details just... don't match my interest, however. That said, he does them well, for what they are.
    Grammar:
I wasn't sure what to offer here. The grammar isn't too bad. It's mostly spelling mistakes. They don't detract from the story. Most of the time, you understand what is happening, but if spelling mistakes bother you, stay away. That said, the author did warn that spelling was an issue, so you step into this forewarned. And, I did. So... I don't feel comfortable taking off too much for that. It still deserves a ding though.
    Story:
This is where the story excels. As others have said, numbers go BRrrr, and boy do they! But for me, what really drives me... is the underlying world and finding all the pieces of how it all fits together. The author already has at least 4 factions before the first chapter even starts. There might even be as many as 6 or 7, depending on how the author plays this. There is a HUGE story going on here, and it will be incredible to see it all.
    Character:
The characters are decent, and they play their part well, sometimes to annoyance or distraction. But, this is who they are. Do not expect perfect people or perfection in a character. They seemed to be pretty deep and varied with their own back stories, histories, and dreams and goals. They are some times alien since the author has created an odd world mix, but withi

Strengths:Rich World-Building:The story exhibits a deep and imaginative world-building. The varied settings, from cosmic rulers to remote earthly locations, create an interesting backdrop for the story.Characters with Depth:The way you introduce characters like the siblings and Joe McConnell is great. They're not just names on a page; they've got histories, problems, and personality. It really hooks you in, wanting to know what's gonna happen to them next. I could do better to explore who Joe is.Descriptive Writing:The narrative is rich in descriptive language, effectively painting vivid images of the settings and characters. This helps in immersing the reader into the story’s universe.Smooth Out the Pacing:Sometimes the story feels a bit like a rollercoaster, especially when you're bouncing between the huge cosmic stuff and the down-to-earth scenes. Finding a balance that doesn't throw the reader off would make the ride smoother. Especially earlier on in the story. The Space stuff hasn't really connected to anything in a while and after 100 chapters it still hasn't.Less Info-Dumping:There are parts where it feels like there's a ton of information all at once. Maybe try to spread out the details or keep them short and sweet so it doesn't bog down the story. All in all, "But for a Slime" is a bold and imaginative piece with a lot of strong points. With some fine-tuning on the pacing and character interactions, it could be even more engaging. Keep up the awesome work!

I can't stress how slow the start is slow and not just slow till the MC gets a status screen but slow as in progression is slow but it's well measured and increases at a reasonable and understandable pace that keeps you engaged, it's like having to watch roblox videos, climbing mount Everest or maybe changing a baby's diaper for the first time. It is painful to get through the first time/ startbut it gets so much better and I am a fucking addicted to numbers going up which this story provides in huge quantities.the thing I love most is how consistent the system is no suddenly unlocking a legendary class or giving the MC a major power-up through titles or quests that can not be achieved by others constricted to the same system,it just makes so much more sensenot a big fan of the master and apprentice repetition for like a 1000 pages or the romantic development so the author can have another avenue to add words to the story, also for the love of god, I don't care about morality that much please stop shoving that in every chapter just give me a status page every chapter and I guarantee you it will make every reader's day

This is well written to my untrained eye. Good gramer and spelling. No mistakes that I could see. The pacing is slow and steady. Does not fluff for fluff sake. You experience the ML frustration and confusion as we try to muddle through. Kidnapped buy aliens for no reason that is apparent. Dropped on a fantasy world. Looming threats known and mysterious. Desperate to level, but hitting a grind with no way to ask for help or advice. The struggle has only begun and I am excited for more.
