Erika Walker is a young woman with a bit of an odd family. Her little brother can coax minutes to stretch or snap like rubber bands and Erika has yet to come across something she cannot break. Erika has never seen her father before and her mother… Well, her mother isn’t exactly her mother anymore. The woman looks like Leah, sounds like her, but actsdifferently. She isn’t quite sure how and she isn’t quite sure why, but sheknowsher mother got body-snatched bysomething. Follow Erika as she delves into a layer of Chicago that she never knew existed, one filled with strange creatures, curious allies, dangerous foes, and maybe—just maybe—some answers to the mysteries surrounding her family. Burned Coveris an urban-fantasy mystery set in a supernatural mirror of contemporary Chicago. The kind of setting where spooky conspiracies run the cities, monsters lurk in the streets, and regular folk are somehow carrying on in ignorance despite the proliferation of phones and cameras. - CrassBirdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I fell in love with this story after the first chapter. It can be quite rare on this platform to find something that feels genuinely original but this story truly is. The characters aren't one dimensional and they change and grow - I am desperate to know more about them but in a positive way! The world and magic system feel so fresh and are clearly well thought out as there's never a point where you think "hang on, that makes no sense". Can't wait to spend more time in this world.

Burnt Cover introduces a fairly standard alt earth setting where
Where this story differs though is that it feels real. Lived in. Half the time I feel more tension than the characters in story because the reader "knows" that the stuff is real and it's just sooo good!
I really like the premise, the characters and the world. Grammar and style are, as expected of a tower curator story, top notch.
If you like urban fantasy and the synopsis speaks to you give this a shot, you won't regret it. - ZiggyTStardustRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm really enjoying this story. The characters and plot are all intresting.
I wasn't really sure how I felt about it at first, but after the first 5-10 chapters I was hooked.
I'm suprised this story doesn't have more followers, it's very well written and I haven't noticed any spelling or grammer issues - phenebeansRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0How do I talk about this one...there are probably better comparisons to be made but I think if anything it reminds me a bit of Fringe, where different perspectives on the world keep opening up and you realize things go deeper and are weirder and more fun than you had originally imagined.
This is far more lighthearted than Fringe, but it is also extremely fun, and similarly to that show I'm becoming more and more attached to all the characters as their personalities become more defined through their actions and words over time. Even now they are all charming and down-to-earth enough that it feels easy to relate to everyone on some level, even though everyone is pretty much the strangest person you've ever met for one reason or another.
What I especially enjoy is how so many characters end up framing reality in ways that are very specific to where they are in their lives and how they see the world, and as a result end up making fairly dumb and funny assumptions about people, especially where Erika is concerned. And while I wasn't sure what I thought of her at first, at this point I'm very fond of her and I can't wait to see how her character develops in particular.
I selfishly want to see this succeed so I can see where it goes. Please read it and give it a good rating for my benefit if nothing else (and also because it's actually good).
