Description
"We’re the odd ones."
This was the one sentence that stuck with Eric as he and his friends took a moment to relax after having cleared an incursion that appeared near their settlement.
In the few days since Earth was integrated into the System, Eric and his friends have already proven themselves as worthy inhabitants of their new world. They faced off against an outer god, defeated monsters specially designed to help take over worlds and an even greater foe, governance, or a dumbed down version of it at least.
Follow as Eric discovers secrets about the System and cripples himself in more ways than one, yet is always rewarded—in ways that seem too much or too little. Watch as his friends have to make up for what he lacks using their own strengths and secrets. All while the System carefully maintains a balance that isn't always obvious at first.

This is a rerelease of my first and only work,The First Vanguard(now deleted). I decided to remove it because I considered it to be too rushed and full of things I ultimately didn't like. The pace I set for myself before led to a story that I wasn't satisfied with, so this time around, I'm taking my time to craft a story thatItruly enjoy.

- Camadt (Alex Hancock)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: 5/5
This is a wonderful story about a group of friends who are, according to others within the story, “The Odd Ones”. I love the way that they use the ways that they are different from “normal” people to interact in their new environment when the system integrates the world while they are at school. The way they work together to overcome challenges, yet all have time to do their own thing really resonates with me.
Character: 5/5
The characters are so much more than their roles. Stella is the leader (not because she’s the beauty, which she is, but because of her ability to recognize what people need and delegate), Marcus is ranged support (which is a good thing because he would rival Evel Knievel in another life), Alex is the tank (yet also was the group’s tutor beforehand, so he’s really smart.), Anna is the melee damage (she’s secure enough in herself to go against the crowd if she sees something that needs to be done.), and Eric is whatever you need him to be (he’s the type of guy who takes apart the toaster to see how it works. Give him enough time and he’ll figure out how to do just about anything.).
Grammar: 5/5
Nothing to complain about here. 5/5
Story: 5/5
What sets this story apart from the rest of the “System integrates Earth” stories is the cast. This isn’t a band of misfits or the popular kids, this is a group that would be comfortable sitting in the back and doing their own thing. But instead of carving out a corner for just them, they reach out and cover people around them, even ones that are antagonistic towards them because it’s the right thing to do.
Style: 5/5
I can’t think of any other books off the top of my head where the MC isn’t the one in charge. In their group of five, he’s the only one who doesn’t get a leadership role right away. He’s the strongest of them, yet follows the direction of the party leader who respects him enough to know when to get him his introvert time. This style of cohesion is something that captured me and stood - Elijah KingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Broken Anomaly starts with a strong premise, throwing you into a chaotic situation where the world is suddenly transformed by the system. The story does a good job of building tension, as the main character, Eric, and his friends Marcus, Stella and Alex try to figure out how to survive in the new world. There’s a good mix of action and mystery, which keeps things interesting and really made me want to keep on reading. I'm normally pretty picky with the stories that I get into and this one has me wanting more!
STYLE: The writing is straightforward and easy to follow, which works well for the action scenes. There are times when the descriptions are a bit too detailed imo--- which can slow down the pacing just a little bit. This is hard to avoid though as with any LitRPG they live and die off of their systems so I completely get it.
STORY: The plot is intriguing, with a solid blend of survival and fantasy elements. The system that’s introduced is interesting, and it adds a lot of depth to the story. The action is great, with enough in there to keep you hooked, but there are a few areas where the story could use more development, especially in explaining some of the world’s mechanics.
CHARACTERS: Eric is compelling to me, his impulsive nature makes for some tense moments and is something I can personally see myself acting like with the situations he is put into. His friends are also well-developed, though some of the secondary characters could use maybe just a little more depth. The character dynamics are interesting as well, and the story does a good job of showing how they adapt to the new world.
GRAMMAR: The grammar is solid. Nothing that really took away from the reading experience for me.
OVERALL: Broken Anomaly is a promising story with an engaging premise and a good mix of action and mystery. It’s definitely worth checking out! - FallenMoon3Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think the fights are the highlight of this book, the author managed to describe the battles well.
The characters are really cool, both the protagonist and his friends are interesting.
The system in the book was used in a pleasant way, the author knows the right moment to place the system messages without making it boring as it usually happens.
GRAMMAR: The grammar is good, at no point was my immersion in the reading broken.
Negative point: it's not really a bad thing, but I think the first chapter lacked a hook, something to arouse the reader's curiosity to continue reading. This could be something for the next book.
Overall, I think this story is quite promising for the LitRPG genre. - Lex7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0An interesting premise. What if you had a system integration and there was this one neurodivergent character who could figure out the system and how to make it work for him... Hmm, sounds like a story we know.
Except, what if said character was actually a decent person? What if they had friends who were also nuerodivergent and they tried helping people instead of being greedy and hoarding everything for themselves? What if said main character remembered his promise to protect the group and showed up when they were in danger?
Well, then you would have this story.
While I found the grammar to be off at times, it was only a handful in the 50,000 words. That seems impressive to me.
The synopsis did confuse me until I got to the end. It feels like the synopsis is for a book 2? But once I got to chapter 20, it made sense.
Basically, if you are looking for a system story with a cast of characters that are trying to help each other, this is a story you should read. I’m very excited to see where the author takes this story and how they continue to build each of the characters. - HitmarkRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So to start off, the story itself is pretty good. Although the genre of a system integrating with a world is used a lot now, it is still the way the story is shown that makes it stand out from the rest. So let's get into it.
The style of the story is good. It shows the scenes and messages it needs to convey. However, here are some areas I believe could use some improvements. First would be the show don't tell rule. What I noticed a lot of the time is that you often say what's happening than showing them. What do I mean by this, well it's simple honestly. An example of telling would be: Eric boiled in anger. Simple, yes, but immersive? Debatable. But if you show it, the viewers can imagine it easier. "Eric's brows furrowed as his hands balled to a fist." See? Now without telling us he's angry, we know he's MAD just through his expressions and body movements.
I have no qualms with the story itself. I think it's good and that there's more to the lore judging by how many worlds seem to be part of the system. As for the grammar, my only problem is that some of the paragraphs are too long and this may overwhelm some viewers. Also it would be better to avoid telling every details such as explaining every small movements of the character.
As for the characters, I do have some issues. My main concern is it feels like some of them feel dull, or rather their conversations are. I believe that a good story is not only bought through a good story telling ability but also through its characters. However, I do notice that some of them seem to just say things because they have to say. It does not feel natural. I think to help with this is to imagine the characters conversing before you and basing them on real life people and speech.
Well that's my two cents. Overall, 4.2 for me! - snminhducRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I've gave this story 4 stars because i really want to like it but...
1. The set up is very similar to "Hell difficult turtorial". Eric = nathan, Stella = Jess.
2. Characters intereaction very stiff and awkward. Like a bunch of robot try to imitate human.
overall interesting but not a smooth/enjoyable story. Just my humble opinion. Cheers! - Lofar, The one who hates swordRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story is actually cool, but my Zeus, how things are left for later and there's a lot of mystery and sometimes unnecessary, they don't show anyone's lineage even though after many chapters we're almost 100% sure of what it is, the confirmation never comes, they keep leaving things that are clearly important and there's never an explanation (at least not yet), and I really can't believe the emotions.
- sgrich20Royal Road★★★ 2.5The story is a mess, too many different POVs, not labelled as multiple POVs, his friends are boring, Female friend is unlikable girl boss whose aggressive and physically abusive. If you’ve gonna write a female to act like an asshole male, just write a male character instead. The system is scattershot, like everything was thrown in and not really thought out. Anything they want to do with system just requires them to stare hard enough, it’s being made up on the spot. MC system is changing so fast, it’s not even worth trying to figure it out when the next chapter it’s something new. Most writer’s can barely write a good MC, but there’s like 5 different major characters. Instead of getting one Ribeye, you’re getting 5 McDonald’s double cheeseburgers. Not enough time to actually build them, they’re suddenly great at everything. That works for one person being an outlier, but 5….no.
