Description

Sanjay King is a brewer. On a hike in the Pacific Northwest, he found himself in another world.  This new world is filled with old magic, monsters that come from the Void, and ancient grudges.  It is a world of hard decisions and where morality is constantly tested.  it is a world of Levels and Power, but the cost to gain both is great and terrible.  It is a world where the great Empire is falling and monsters are summoned to devour the world.

This is a slowish story, more a slice of life with bouts of adventure and battles.  San is a man dealing with life issues and the world he's in isn't a nice place.

Lets get down to brass tacks:
There is nothing that breaks my consentration or immerson, no grammer or spelling flaws that have me re-read the same sentance twice, and no scenarios, dialoge or characters that make me cringe.
It's worth the read just for that.
The monsters are wayyy more interesting than normal, the lore has me intregued and the way the main character levels up or begomes physically better is much grittier than arbitrary 'exp' gain for slaying a monster.
That makes the read much more enjoyable than a whole lot on this website

I have completely succombed to this novel.
The MC is isekaied after in a fantasy world.
First the world. This a dark one with monster war and horror at any corner. Peaple are cruel and easily put there greed before the life of others. Even dark to the extreme this is not a caricature. Everything seems realist and logical. In this hard world peaple are hard. Also impressive in only 12 chapters we learn and experience different cultures, philosophy and part of the World. Impressive world building.
Now the characters. They are extremely well made. They have there goal, there cultures, there friends and habits. The MC is just a passager in there lives. Loves it.
The MC is a wise men, ready to die and do the right thing. Without spoiler I can only say so. His personality is well crafted from the start and has he slowly understand the world he finds his place. He is strong put as much as any adventurer.
Grammar and style is top tier. You are kidnapped by his word, and soon you could not stop yourself.
The only reason this story is not on top 20 of RR is it's lack of chapter. But with time it will arrive there.
Thank you Psycho for this wonderful novel.

The story of a man who has been transported to another world with levels, magic, and monsters.  Too early to determine just how good the story itself is, but it has started out well for a portal fantasy.  Same with the world building, no complaints, but nothing too special yet.  The writing is the main reason for the early five stars.  If you like portal fantasies, this one should be right up your alley.

    As of chapter 8:
MC has a past and the past still influences his present. He is someone that had given up on life at the beginning of the story, but because of the change of scenery and curiosity for wonder, he decided to postpone the end for an undefined time.
He doesn't treat life as trash because he is in difficult times (99% of MC isakai are murder hobos), but he also isn't someone gullible. Just because a beast doesn't eat him, he doesn't treat him as a pet or an ally. Also, just because someone tried to kill him doesn't mean he will kill them.
He has his own morals that aren't immediately influenced by the environment. (99% isakai MC are ok with killing if others kill, same with pedophilia)
The world has yet to be revealed to us, but what we are given is intriguing (not groundbreaking but interesting enough).
We have magic that can turn the people into abominations.
We have monsters that don't just see humans they kill humans. They act more like animals that if hurt, retreat, and if given safety they can tell that you are not an enemy - just like animals can think. (way too many stories have monsters act like robots.)
We are hinted at the kingdom's politics, problems, and unrest.
Basically, there is plenty to stay for the next chapter.

A realistic gamelit from the guy who brought us 'Interdimensional Garbage Merchant'. Set in a believable world with believable characters. It's gritty and grounded and contains a lot of great well written action. If you are a fan of 'Gilded Hero' you should give this one a shot.
Alex is an author who respects your time at the very least. That should be worth something.

Chapter 5: This story is pretty great so far, and shows promise for the future. My only concern is that a lot of detail is given to events that have passed while I'd like a bit more detail on what's going on in the present. On the other hand, the remembrances of San's past make him feel like a real person with a real story from the get-go, which is, to me, worth the slower pace while the setting is established.
Chapter 34 edit: The fiction has not dropped in quality at all 34 chapters in, and the story has been much more focused on San's situation rather than his past, although his past is often referenced in less direct or less explicit ways when it has some connection to the current events. The world has been fleshed out wonderfully, and, to me, it seems we've only cratched the surface of the whole system of magic/levels/eldritch monsters from the void. I highly recommend you read this fiction.

So, let's start off with what this isn't. This isn't about a story about a MC who goes around, killing monsters, gaining experience, and gets excited when his mana missle spell does 2 points more damage.
This is a story about a seriously depressed man, whose wife and kids died about 6 months prior to the beginning. He gets portaled into a rather dark world, with a civil war in a far off kingdom leading to lawlessness in outlying areas. Humans are often jerks, but not always.
Grammar isn't bad, but there are some weird errors, more like autocorrect fails than anything else. No big deal.
The author writes like he knows what he's talking about regarding brewing and distilling, although there's a heck of a lot of things that go into opening your own brewery/distillery besides just making the product. It would make more sense, maybe, if he was a home brewer and distiller as a hobby, and it might provide a character hook since home distilling is illegal anywhere in the US.
To sum up: characters that seem human, and that I care enough about to wonder who is going to die. Decent writing, with only a few mistakes. Interesting worldbuilding. Unique monsters. Things might be darker than some people would want, but otherwise check it out.

I found this story to be exactly the kind of content I enjoy from this site. It also fits the current trends rather well while sticking out its own twists enough to not be a random copy. The 'system' exists but has so little control as the point of 9 chapters in that it's doesn't have the plot rely on it. It seems it won't going forward either. I'm honestly excited for this story and hope it grows to be one of the few I look forward to reading constantly. I've wasted five years on this site and this is my first review. Thought it necessarily to tell you a good job and I wish to see more of your story unfold. My last story I wanted to follow dropped after 40 chapters and it was sad but wholly understandable. Again, loved the story and eagerly await more. 10/10

    I love this story.
Without spoiling, this novel is a delight because there are real stakes on the line and the MC (San) has a good morale compass. He is partly... suicidal (for reasons) and this makes an interesting story at time. He is a brewer which is very unorthodox and I personally never read a novel about brewing! The grammar is flawless or at  least advanced for Royal Road standards in my opinion. If you would like to read about a man who needs to find his reason to live with his guilt in another world while trying to do good deeds, this is the novel. Action packed and a good read.
    SPOILER down below (maybe?)
My only dislike, which I can see why, is the fact that the reason why is wife died isn’t fully explained. I’m assuming it was during labor but this is undisclosed as of chapter 9. Yes, this is a driving point and a good thing to keep the readers guessing. I do feel giving San some mysteries is a good idea, normally the character being fully known isn’t as fun for readers... but I would rather know his main driving point in being so motivated or why he wanted to commit suicide at one point; to connect with him and try to understand his actions. Maybe throw in some mystery of one of his relatives doing something ‘similar’ to magic, such as his grandfather (I believe) seemingly do ‘sanitize’ or another type of skill that brewers have, forcing San to guess his family and maybe connections he may have to this world or the entity that brought him to this new world.
Well overall, I loved this entire novel and keep up the awesome work! (I nicked this .5 simply because I feel that the ‘Mary died’ was pulled for too long (assuming that this will be continued to be milked) and that no other bombs or wrenches were thrown into the mix.

I haven't ever left a review before but felt like i needed to for this story. I really enjoy the way this story has been set up so far, from the first chapter all the way to the latest (at the time of writing this ch 25) and i felt the need to leave a positive review to possibly make more people see and read it. Give it a chance. READ IT!
