Breathe – an Isekai, LitRPG, cultivation adventure

Description
Not all protagonists are made equal. Typical Isekai main characters follow a common theme: modern boys transmigrated into a fantasy world with overpowered cheats, a ready-made group of loyal friends, and plenty of plot armor. Unfortunately for our’s, the transmigration process did not go as well as it should have. Something about his soul being fractured? Anyway, he found himself in a new body, surrounded by unknown people, all within the non-typical cultivation world of a mediocre web series he used to read. And lacking any serious protagonist’s cheat. But fear not! For he would not be deterred! Unfathomable power only needed hard work to be achieved. Whatever the story sent him would be conquered. His self-appointed vegetal nemesis defeated! As long as he stayed away from the original princely main character… Trouble followed that guy way too closely for this Isekai’d boy. Inspired by the likes of Beware of Chicken, The Primal Hunter, and When Immortal Ascension Fails, Time Travel to Try Again, here is a new comedic cultivation LitRPG! PS: You might even learn how to make soap and build your pre-industrial hygiene empire! What to expect: •Weak to strong, coming of age story alternating action and slice of life •Mild satirical elements •No actual Harem for the protagonist. Romance will be present on/off, however it will mainly be for side characters, and monogamous. Our protagonist will have his turn, when he grows up. No weird incest stuff whatsoever, I promise. Mild Spoiler: when Myrkas « adopts » siblings, they stay siblings •Kind of a system, but it shows up late. •Fluffy companions •Martial arts and alchemy crafting with detailed power upgrades •The burn will be slow As a non-native English speaker, I use the free version of Grammarly for spellcheck. No other AI used, ever. If you don’t like Em-dashes go read something else. Uploads Wed-Thu when the next chapter is ready aka around 1-2/month Also, I deal with chronic migraines so there will be frequent breaks. Those will be announced in author’s note. - John.MalkinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The title has my only complaint about the story. I've learned a lot about this specific genre of story and the tropes behind it from the author. I may have picked a few tiny nits, but I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far.
So far, the main character hasn't been the knows and does everything type. He only thinks is does and can do everything. There are a few holes in his garments where he sits that prove he can't. Also, he has a lot of growing to do. He is slowly growing both from what he was to what he is now and can become. Sometimes starting out underpowered is the proper way to learn and grow.
The secondary characters as well as the world are interesting. Enough the same to stay within genre and tropes but different enough to be interesting and entertaining. When you get to it, if you haven't, the "interesting and useful item" the MC has use of was a lot of fun to explore and enjoy. So are his cultivation and protection...assistants. I'll save the details to be discovered as you read. They are worth the wait.
Overall the story reads quickly, except when you stop to think about what is happening. For me that was at least once per chapter, and sometimes more. That's only one of my reasons for liking the story and author. - Orion's HeraldRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story of a boy who wakes up broken. Or at least so it seems. The premise hooked me right off the bat and opens up with some powerful questions. Why is he here? Who are these people? Just two of the many I had.
But I shall hold myself back before I spoil things. Moving onto the style of the story. It is something I really love. The introspection of it all really gets me into the characters’ heads, allowing me to understand their thinking and logic. There is nothing worse than reading a story and wondering why a character did something, or even their motivation. We don’t have that here.
That sets me up nicely to move on to characters. They are a treat to see interact; the dialogue is natural, and I didn’t have to pause much—name can catch you off guard when you first read them. But as soon as you get past that, it is all good.
Moving on to the Grammer. Personally, I feel it was good. Nothing pulled me out of my immersion when I was reading, allowing for little to no friction. It was an enjoyable and comforting read. Which I don’t think the average reader will have a problem with.
And finally, we will close with the story. I like what I’m reading. Well paced and comforting, the story so far is a treat to read, and while I can’t predict where it’s going exactly, we have a general direction. And that in itself is reassuring. I look forward to our characters’ continued adventures.
Overall, it’s a smooth read with a lot of potential that I look forward to continuing. - projdRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is good, and that's all I can really say about it. it's just a good enjoyable read. At first, I was concerned that it would be too generic of a read for me, I tend to like unique premises, and the blurb didn't quite hook me, but by the need of chapter 2 I was all in. And even by the mid point I was caring about SOAP of all things. That speaks to the skill of an author to make someone interested in the world to that degree. This reminds me of Ascendence of a bookworm with the level of attention the author pays to the little details.I`ll be waiting until later in the story to publish a full review, but I can say for now I`m excited to see how the story develops.
- JakcassRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Few grammar mistakes, very well written from the beginning. The overly descriptive writing style does make it a bit hard to get fully engrossed in the novel. The story itself seems promising, and I look forward to where it goes, but it would be nice to see the MC get out of his head a bit more. Otherwise, great work!
- CatgurlRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Started out well, but got dull the further I read. Attempts to make fun of some isekai tropes fell flat. Author picked some great ones to mock, but kept repeating in the same pattern.
MC went from reasonably intelligent to quite dumb as story progressed, and not in a way that made sense.
More filler than I like, but better than many other stories - still slowed the story down too much. Too much exposition on what the MC is thinking and not enough action. When there is action, is it again a mock of a typical isekai trope, which I think was supposed to be funny - it wasn't.
Story is not terrible, but it is not great either. I am disappointed as the initial chapters were promising. Best scene was with the fluffy animals. I suspect there is a lot of AI generated content in this story and not enough actual writing. I may go back and try again, but right now I'm done. - BingeReaderRoyal Road★★ 2.0A good idea ruined by being very dull and drawn out, too much pondering and pointless inner monologue padding every chapter. Doesnt help that all the mc's choices are utterly retarded.
Ultimatly its another "Stuck in a generic cultivation novel with random gimmick" type of thing but it suffers from glacial pacing, is simply boring to read, no amount of fluff/padding can save it when its so unbelievable and dull.
Its a shame, with even a few minor changes it could have been decent.
