Bodega Cat (System Apocalypse, Deck Builder, Litrpg)

Description
Bagel, the bodega cat, had a deal with the world. He didn’t change it, and it didn’t change him. Seemed simple enough. He was content to go with the flow. Bagel was just a cat enjoying his life in the big apple, a place full of bothersome humans, but then he had to go and accidentally discover the secret of cards, attributes and levels. Then there was gourmet cat food. With baked goods and cards as his new life goals, he turns to the competitive business of trading the random junk that card bearers in the system apocalypse loot every day. Follow Bagel as he does everything to find a baker... except leave his Bodega, and second avenue because exploring the dangerous world out there is for suckers. Witness how card bearers just can't seem to stop dying around his home. And cheer for a cat who makes great new friends by simply selling them energy drinks and corner store fare. Bodega Cat is completed and will remain up until I get it on amazon sometime in 2027 most likely. There will be an announcement. I'm going through and editing it, thanks for all the feedback. "I started bodega cat expecting vibes based comedy trash. What I didn't expect was the pizza rat to be a complex mirror of the human condition. Or a talking cat." A reviewer Cover art by Skippy. - Jay ThornRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A delightfully absurd and oddly profound tale, this story follows Bagel, a self-important feline whose kingdom is a New York bodega. Bagel is entertaining while not being unlikeable and the story is written super well. It's funny, entertaining, and an absolute must-read for deckbuilder fans. Super excited to see where it guys next.
- BlueTomoshibiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Stop what you're doing and read about this cat.
This story is hysterical and I've enjoyed every moment of it that I've read. Bagel is a fun little kitty who has simple wants and needs, but with all the smugness and superiority one would expect from a cat protagonist. I also enjoy all the little nods and reference I've seen so far (looking at you "pizza rat")
I'm eagerly waiting to see how this story shakes out, but if it's as good as the opening has been I think my sides are gonna be sore from laughter - cosmic_lonewolfRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an incredibly fun story to read, with great comedic moments, paired with an interesting deck-building system!I adore how the story has been written from the eyes of Bagel (the cat MC) and prose captures that really well. But there was a bit of weirdness, where the 3rd person perspective blends a bit with 1st person, And that did take a couple of chapters for me to get used to.
- SnazzyCubRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So let me preface this by saying that I have an orange cat, like Bagel, and they tend to have strange personalities.
I'm pretty sure that if my cat could talk, he'd be a little diva just like Bagel. Sure, cats tend to have more of a haughty air than other types of pets but the way Bagel is written is just right in capturing that silly goofy air that orange boys have while still being a compelling protagonist.
All that, and the author's ability to capture the feeling of being in a New York bodega is excellent. I've personally never been to one, but I can feel the slightly grungy but very homey vibes Bagel's world gives off effortlessly.
The fact that this is happening in the midst of an apocalypse is absurd, but it's a fun ride.
All around, would recommend. Now go pet your cat and tell them they're loved. - KosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What can I say? I was pulled in after the first chapter. We've all seen sentient cats before in other books, but this one manages to be ambitious while not betraying his feline tendencies? How does one accomplish that, you ask? Well, read the book and find out!
Story Score: 5/5. I love cats and i love new york. This story blends the two with a healthy dose of world building.
Style Score: 5/5. It's a deck builder. If that's not your thing, scroll on. However, if you're open to the potential monsters dropping cards, and the cat selling them, this might be your cup of tea.
Grammar Score: 4.5/5. I read this story early. Perhaps he cleaned it up since then?
Character Score: 4.5/5. I mean, come on, it's a cat. Normally that scores high, but im a human and happen to be biased. Who knows, though, maybe he will get a human form card in book 2 and redeem himself.
Overall: 5/5. The story is cute and i found myself binging it. There's is so much potential in this world Weaver has cooked up. I can't wait to see where he takes it. Only time will tell. I can't wait to read more and see where he takes it. - kzzhRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I quite enjoyed reading Bagel dominate the street (and soon probably the world.Grammar: 5/5Someone complained bout the grammar but at least the newly edited chapters read quite well. I didn’t notice anything that would have booted me out of the story. I listened to most of it, though, so can’t vouch for every comma being correct 😅Character: 5/5Bagel nets this a solid 5/5 already. Not many characters have made a proper appearance so far, but none of the side-characters have been grating or awful, which is not a bar all LitRPG stories clear.Story: 3.5/5The story is slowly starting to roll, but I appreciate the slice-of-lifey vibes of Bagel just tending to his shop and observing the apocalypse happening around him. The outsider viewpoint is refreshing and I like we’re not struggling 24/7 immediately. Still, I’m taking off stars from both Story and Style, as I have a really hard time figuring out the Deck Building side of the story so far. Maybe it’s just because Bagel himself is pretty confused about everything. Still, I think I’m a quite a bit more baffled than is intended.Style: 4/5Strong and cohesive writing. We get consistent POV from Bagel, no purple prose. If anything, Bagel is a pretty dry narrator, not bothering with embellishments or detailed descriptions. We’re obviously getting a LitRPG protagonist cat instead of a cat-as-a-cat cat, but that’s a completely valid and sensible choice.Overall: 4.5/5All in all, I really enjoyed glimpsing the beginning of Bagel’s inevitable (business) world domination. Scritcher for you, Bagel, and many, many customers.
- BonestrakRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The Concept is nice and the plotprogression is decent.
The Storys glaring flaw is that the sentences have so many spelling, grammar and consistenzy Errors that it seems narrated to a speech to Text Programm and then posted without Proofreading and editing.
Take the time to ready the Story Back and edit it will drastically improve the experience. - NakithefaileRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story and characters are amazing, but the whole thing needs to pass through an editor and be reworked. I'm getting big text to speech vibes from the later chapters, and it gets kinda hard to read. This story has some seriously good potential, author just needs to find an editor to give chapters a pass through before posting. I don't know if author is working relying solely on a phone or what, but whatever limitations are holding them back, they still give a passable story.
- SCP-1715Royal Road★★★★ 3.5I like card fics, they're always fun. This one doesn't suffer from dreaded stat bloats of all the cards, just by not showing any new cards after the first few chapters. But the grammar needs work. It needs a total rewrite. I have to reread sentences multiple times to try and insert diffrent words for it to make sense. Please get a proofreader or Grammarly.
- DeltorenRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Story is fine enough it mainly has some problems with grammar and how people talk being super clunky with I blame the authors use of speech to text software in writing the story. Other then that it’s fine if a bit bland but the characters talking to each other are weird abd hard to understand sometimes
