Description
They took his tongue, and with it, his song and his sorcery. They threw him to the lions, expecting him to die.
Mauled, multilated, and bereft of magic, Arn survives. A prisoner in Aquila, the northern skáld has lost all his powers. But a felled tree can regrow. A destroyed house can be rebuilt. A broken man can be made whole.
The method is forbidden magic, and the price is life's blood. With each death by his hand, Arn will claw his powers back, little by little. Unwittingly, his new masters will aid him in his endeavour, as they have but one use for him, same as before...
The arena.

- Boss ManRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As I am writing this review there are only 18 chapters. But so far the quality is excellent. One of the extra things the author has been doing is to give little snippets of real world history that somewhat relates to the story. I’m excited to see how the story goes from here.
- GladisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story in so far seems great, it has a balanced pace and great world building the author seems passionate about the historical elements he uses in the stories world-building. I haven't seen any grammatical errors. So far the mc has been pretty bland and hasn't really shown a lot of character traits or opinions other than, that he dislikes his current situation and the people that put him there and he deeply loves the ways of his people. I hope more of his self will be shown as the story progresses it is too soon to tell. I just wanted to give an early review. This review will.be changed accordingly as I read the story.
- JackSoulusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story about a clash between a Norse and Roman mythology with all it's different gods and magic.
Spoiler warning:
I loved the development of comraderie among Arn and the other gladiators. And the ending was a fantastically written fight and escape scene. Hopefully we get a sequel or different perspective? - MjphdcRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Saw Pirateaba from wandering inn link this, figured it would be good, but this is a fantastic read. The characters and pacibg are fantastic and the world building hooked me instantly. I will be binging this before bed for the next few days. Highly suggest this book to anyone. Not sure why I have to write 50 words but im adding this last sentence for that purpose and that purpose alone.
- RunicSnow7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I want to say thank you, this book has been an absolute delight to read. it has also helped me as inspiration for what I want to do with my own tamreelic fanfic that I am writing in my own journal. also love the way you expound on some of the historical stuff in relation to the book.
- duQuesneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0TLDR: Well-rounded with good character development, a believable world, and a story that doesn't get in its own way.
The historical anchoring is a delightful flavor throughout the tale, and the after-words on many of the chapters give interesting background information on themes and events.
My bar for historically related fiction is relatively high, but this story hopped it with no issues. - ducksoupRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you like progression fantasies, this is a story not to be missed...
Quill is at it again with his excellent story telling skills. In my opinion Quill is one of the best authors on Royal Road. If word-smithing is an art, Quill is one of the greatest there is.
Firebrand, his last work was over 700 chapters with six books brought to AMZN...this one he says will be presented as a 'short' story so I suspect maybe 100 chapters...oh goody.
Bring on your greatness Quill, I shall devour each as you feed them to us...
The style builds upon on a simple manner the same as the life of the burg wherein the story originates...a fishing village large enough to have the riff-raff to warrant a fighting arena to bring a certain glamour to Quill's work.
Each character is unforgettable in their own right as individuals usually are. Arn is rebuilding his destroyed runes on his body to build his magic to a level which is useful to him. As he does dirty deeds for the punks that run the underworld he is able to get what he needs without others finding out his talents.
His grammar is a strength many lack in their writings...finding errors is generally a difficult task so why look for them?
This is meant to be a short story, but I am desiring more even at this short stage...we can only wait to see what Quill gifts us with as he posts this. - ReveriRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Taken with high inspiration from old Norse myths and Roman culture, I was not displeased of the author's respect towards their history. They steer away from most (though, perhaps not all) common misconceptions of the period while delivering a unique story set between the cultures amidst a fictional setting. Furthermore, the tale does not stray from violence as the protagonist is set out with a clear vengeance, no bloodshed too costly to fulfill their oath, while nonetheless developing meaningful bonds over time that last through the story and develop the character.
- proserRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5After bouncing off everything on the site—especially the generic classics—here I find a writer who can actually write! A few things here or there that are told when they could be inferred. Maybe the author could check out the iceberg method of writing and see if it suits their tastes!
Congrats on the completed manuscript. Look forward to following along here. - deliverRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Not a story to write home about, nor one that will stay with you for long. Still, it does its job, entertaining you during its short run with an engaging narrative and an interesting world. You’ll likely move on to your next read feeling pleased you stumbled upon it. While it’s not the best out there, it’s certainly better than most.
