John, a vampire living for near six thousand years, has gone by many names in his long life. Warrior, king, god – he’s done and seen it all. He may look very young, but he is by far the oldest of the vampires, the pinnacle of power on Earth. Such great age can also be a curse, as his mind has not kept up with the regeneration of his body, and he now struggles to even remember his own name.
That is until powerful beings called the ascended come to Earth and remove a shield blocking our solar system from the Tree of Life. John is healed, and his mind restored, and he feels as fresh as the day he was turned so long ago, and he is ready to learn this new way of gaining power, this self-cultivation, and defend his world. But he’s no longer the apex predator and the top of the heap. A high ascended wants his head, and armies of demons, dark ones, and g’athu stand in his path.
John has accumulated many skills throughout his life, and with the NCS giving him knowledge and guidance on the ways and techniques of self-cultivation, will he earn the might needed to fight back? Joined by the strange and beautiful Amber, a woman as extraordinary as any vampire, the source of many old tales herself, John will find out.
It’s a race for survival, and if humans manage to endure the current invasion, their only prize will be a far deadlier one.
Vampires are unknown throughout the many universes, could John and his kin the reason Earth was kept from the Tree of Life?

- HaydenHudsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've not read anything quite like this before and it delights me. The style is unique, engaging and pleasant to read, I can't wait for more!
John's internal journey and analysis is so beautifully blended with the actions happening to him, its really a triumph.
This is definitely on that I'll be dissapointed to reach the 'waiting for chapters' stage. - mad dawgRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story reminds me of some of the Henlein and Tolkien stories I often find myself re-reading - remember Glory Road and Oscars fight with Igli. I'm a slow reader and I find myself pausing and anticipating the next story line, the next fight and the next character - with each character and situation evolving, devolving or morphing into the unexpected; From the Pre-historic European Tribes to the Roman Legions to WWII to Galactic Empire - what a trip!
- Bigjeff5Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a very nice twist on the classic overpowered MC cultivator trope.
The style of writing aims toward a more myth/epic style than most cultivation/system novels, and the MC's significantly long life prior to gaining access to a System and Cultivation is a major component of this story, not simple window dressing as in most cultivation novels.
The MC, who goes by John, is the oldest living vampire - a man born before the invention of writing, who conquered kingdoms and was worshipped as a god, becoming the source of many legends before, after nearly 6000 years of life, his mind finally fails him and he becomes an invalid in the modern era.
When the System arrives and brings Cultivation to earth, John's mind is healed, and the result of combining cultivation with his incredible vampiric powers allows John to punch far, far above his level.
Despite the overpowered nature of the MC, the conflicts are well balanced. In fact, that he is so powerful gains him significant negative attention and causes him no end of grief he would not ordinarily receive. The obstacles he faces are commensurate to his true power level, and he faces a number of obstacles where being the strongest human doesn't particularly help, or even matter in some cases.
I found the story engrossing and entertaining, and I quite liked the change in style. Two thumbs up from me. - WhitemanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Goated book wood recommend the author writes really well only have 2 issues with it 1 is it isn't finished I want and need more 2 is it is so dark and in every area that something can go wrong it does also the author literally never lets the main character get a break witch honestly kind of takes the immersion away from me become I kinda know what's gon happen the worst thing possible also what happened to his kid in the end is just undead it woulda been better if the kid was who it was expected to be I know this is lots of negative stuff but the actual writing and the story is perfect the way the main character acts and is is just simply perfect only other main issue is what happens with his wife I nearly dropped
- Titania136Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Simply put I love, love, love the concept, and the main character. The MC is extremely old, as in I disagree with the written word old, and instead of that being something that is idly said it very much affects him. He places things in his mindset that he earned a long time ago and doesn't change his mind just because of a few pesky decades of change.
The Path to power is good mixing new things with established systems and terms so that we know enough to not get stuck.
But I will say one thing, the pages have a case of the wall of text. The text is placed so close together and gathered in such big paragraghs that I skip through important bits of text, and everything seems to rush ahead too fast. And this isn't some thing like I need glasses I read other series perfectly fine. But in this one it feels like the text goes by too fast.
But frankly I goddamn love what I've seen so far! - A V DalcourtRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is writen in present tense, which is no easy feat. I admire the author for making the effort and for doing a pretty decent job of it.
The story follows 900yr old vampire John (I prefer Nut for his name), as the world comes to an abrupt end and demons start doing their thing. Only 3 survivors remain...
There are LitRPG elements within the game, which is largely explained by an invisible dame, while the men folk decide that now is a great time to get their fight on. There's a promise of stat and skill growth, but it'll be slow as the author will be focusing on character development. - NorthFuryRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The character is fleshed out and one can observe his growth. He grows both on his path of cultivation, at a good pace, as well as a person which is slower, as it should be. There is a lot of work put into the character, his background and the world building. The MC stays in character, despite the hardships that it brings upon himself to do so.
The story goes places, and explores various facets, some that may not sit well with everyone. I find it good since it's bound to character development.
At the time I read the first book, there were sections that read like a log book. The author has been improving his writing style as the story progressed. It reads really well now and it's been like this for quite a while now.
I'm looking forward to see where the story goes and the character growth. - BerderRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I like the idea, and there are sections where the vampire narrative is done well. It's good when he talks about his past life and sincerely held beliefs. I'd rather the story have more of that. The introductory chapters were also kind of interesting.
But then there are chapters where it just drags on with side plots and infodumps with nothing worth reading. I got to chapter 50, by which point there had been several "system infodumps" giving lots of tedious detail about how cultivation and the system work, and during which the MC leveled up in the background and much time passed. I skipped over most of these chapters, but there were just too many and too much. If you don't want to actually show the MC cultivating day by day (and I don't think I'd want to read too much of that either), then you should at least simplify the system and his powers by a lot so the reader isn't forced to slog through so many details. He's physically strong, he levels up and gets some blood magic. Great. Three paragraphs can establish that, now get back to the main plot. (Or even better, don't tell me what powers he has, just say he spent time training and then when there's a fight, and I do mean a main-plot relevant fight, show me the new powers at the same time you introduce them.)
The other problem is all the characters had been side tracked to a different location from the main plot, so nothing I care about was happening, basically just filling space. To add to that there's some kind of romance/"silly" subplot. I might be interested in a little of that if it was done well and woven into the action, but again, the characters were off the main plot and I'm just trying to get past all the filler. So literally all I'm seeing is "infodump - filler side story - infodump - filler romance - infodump - 'silly' stuff that's supposed to be funny." None of that is what drew me into the story. I wanted to read about an ancient vampire doing ancient vampire things.
So, I'm going to stop reading here, - IndicusRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Honestly seems like it could be interesting but I can't make heads or tales of what is happening in the early chapters the words say a lot of nothing and the characters speak as if they were desperately trying to be mysterious or wise and it doesn't work as I believe the author intended. On top of everything a lot is happening and I can't keep up
If you don't mind the flowery words and can find the meaning in them I'm sure there is a neat story. It is just not for me. - MeowmixjwRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I liked the premise but struggled reading with the 3rd person present tense every chapter is in. Lots of info-dumping all at once as other reviewers also mentioned.
Magic system started out interesting but since it is all explained in massive info-dumps it is hard to follow. Especially since the MC has the option to change the key terms of the magic system.
