Overall: Excellent - if you like Pokemon fics, this is a must-read!
Style: Yes, there are very well written battles. However I especially loved seeing the firetypes outside of battle too experiencing the world and being adorable little menaces. This fic really combines the feeling of adventure, with the thrill of battles, with the adorableness of pokemon with unique and quirky personalities.
Story: Specializing in fire types actually makes for a very interesting story since there are so few fire types per region, let alone strong fire types. However it totally pays off because fire types are all so cool! Who needs type coverage when you have floofy friends to keep you toasty! Also there is a looming subplot driving the MC to get stronger - there is more to his motivations than some generic desire to become the champion or be "the very best."
Grammar: Sentence structure and all that are all perfectly fluid. Also the author actively fixes reported edit suggestions so any typos are rare and decreasing by the minute.
Character: I actually really like our main character. He's a kind pokemon trainer and a caring brother, yet also comes up with some interesting schemes. However, the stars of the show obviously are his pokemon, and they are as adorable and awesome as you could hope! He doesn't have any permanent human companions, but he meets a lot of interesting characters and there are even a few that reappear every now and then. Tons of great personalities here!

Your pretty standard Pokemon isekai. MC is Zinnia's older half brother, story is set before the Sapphire, Ruby, and Emerald Games. I think the story is set around the time of the Blue and Red Games. It seems to be a combo of the Anime and Game worlds. I love the take on a fire type trainer witch is one of the harder types to specialize in early on.

The pokemon fanfic scene has been going through a bit of a renaissance recently and Blazing the Competition is no exception. It follows a fire type specialist from Hoenn on his journey and does a great job balancing world development with training and battling. Overall if this stays consistent I could see it up there with the likes of Hard Enough and Born of Caution.

Likeable MC, interesting (some really hateable) side characters. Very good progression (a little fast but WAY better and more realistic than other stories here and on webnovel).
Battles are nice and make sense from a lore and progression standpoint.
Author managed to create a nice and believable AU which is realistic and not insane like the games.

Honestly it’s a great Pokemon fanfiction. The dialogue and characters are great. The fire type specialist is awesome that I haven’t read before.
The biggest complaint is the main character is by far the worst character in this novel which really sucks because it’s such a good novel. The MC is a major push over to every character in the novel. He frequently gives away information for free to random strangers and friends. Information that others would spend insane money for or make it a clan or family secret. Then the MC turns around and complains about having no money or constantly seen not buying something like TMs or stones due to price.
Everyone close to our MC has benefited greatly by being near him but then turn around put our MC down and just be straight up mean to him. Flannery is a good example. I think it started out being comedic relief with the comments but then she traveled with him and it got old fast. Elite 4 Moore is his sponsor and constantly belittles the mcs efforts and talks down to him despite the years working for him and helping his daughter learn the ropes of being a trainer. Glacia got a the knowledge of eeve’s ice evolution for free. Phoebe got the frolass evelution for free. Marlon got Militoc for free. Aster manipulates the MC through his sister into basically getting mega stones for cheap.
I don’t expect the MC to be an edgy overlord or rude to other or horde knowledge. But with the shear amount he has given away for free he could be funding his journey and reinvesting into his team. His friends don’t seem like friends to me but people using the mc for their gain. And his sponsor just straight up dislikes him.

To make sure that his sister will be safe when world shattering future events take place. Egon has to become a powerful trainer or champion to protect those he loves.
With the help of his fun loving fire team, rare fire pokemon, and firey legendaries. Its up to Egon to be the very best by being the mature kid in a world of immature parents and close-minded Unovan gym leaders.
Overall a fun read, good grammar, no overly complicated content, cute pokemon antics, and lighthearted comedy. A good simple time burner if you need one. I enjoyed this fanfic.
