Description
Drew's life had fallen apart. He was middle aged, estranged from his wife and son, and stricken with a fatal disease. Things changed however when the beasts invaded. Using power gained from the beasts he killed, Drew finds himself in a young healthy body with unimaginable strength, and a desperate need to journey home to his family.
Experience the collapse of society with Drew as he navigates its dangers, meets new friends, and steadily grows in power.
This can be considered a Post Apocalyptic Progression novel. It has similarities to cultivation novels, but is not Wuxia, it is only slightly Xianxia.

- varkolakRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the most uniquely normal power ups yet so well written that I can't help but be fully engrossed. The characters are real people with real emotions that are well portrayed. I still have some remnant moisture in the corner of my eye from this chapter. If you want a read with some depth I highly recommend, however if you want the normal light fluffy "everyone turns out fine after arbitrary conflict" than look elsewhere. This is a gem and I think it has a strong publication value.
- LeckanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoyed reading through the first few chapters, sad that there ain't more already. I'm a great fan of litrpg and progression styled stories and this one hits the mark in the later category.
It starts off with an introduction of the main character and a bit of his backstory. The setting is modern day USA which doesn't really require much to set up for the reader. It gives a good feel for the character and I really feel it sets up things nicely. The cured sickness and "new chance at life" it entails works well with the characters motivations and drive. Story so far he has only met one more character properly and it's a bit early to tell how well that part of the story will flow. A bit surprised he didn't spare another thought for his neighbour though.
The grammar flows well in the story and i don't see any of the so very common issues with lack of descriptions or structure. Maybe some descriptions and thought processes could be fleshed out more but it's a delicate balance between too much or too little.
Really looking forward to where this story is going. Looking forward towards what powers he gets and how the new reality the main character has found himself in will end up. - LestiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great book, was highly entertaining till the Next Chapter button stopped working.
Grammer is very good, with few mistakes.
MC isn't weak mentally or an emo so that's a huge bonus. He also tends to act his age which makes it better.
The cast is understandable with thier own thoughts and personalities.
The "magic" system is pretty good and keeps you entertained, also isn't slow in the upgrades department.
My only real complaint is the kids way of speaking which I would honestly not tolerate if I wasn't able to ignore it, or it took up too much page time. Honestly, if I had a kid that spoke like this they would not be allowed a phone or the internet till that permanently changed. I might just be getting older but you fucked up as a parent if your child speaks in this way.
Overall 5/5 for entertainment. - TheEagleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been following this story for quite a while and I've come to the conclusion that it is a great read. Nearly every chapter leaves one wanting more. The Author has a really good writing style. The characters are all unique, and growing. The plot and storyline, while sometimes predictable, still surprises me. Definitely worth the read.
- D. HermitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you enjoy an action packed, fast-paced engaging story with an interesting take on a popular SciFi premise, then this is the series for you. I devoured the first novel, Journey, in two days. It's one of those types of stories. What I love about these books: an amazing escape into a plot that is long on entertainment without making me think too hard. What I don't like: I'm not the one who wrote them and has the first novel published and doing well on Amazon (go check it out, it is totally worth it!). I've also enjoyed the 'Journey' of this author getting markedly and measurably better at his craft with literally each new chapter. Keep it up!
- Mem302Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story with an Overpowered main character, post-apocalypse, cultivation levels, decent character building. Fun twists and turns. It was a very good read. If the author keeps writing them I'll keep buying them. Looking forward to starting another series of his soon after I finish the few I am working on now.
- Luca DRRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5One day you wake up and it's the apocalypse, but you are a loner in the desert. What do you do?
Well, that's what happens to the protagonist of this novel, a sick overweight old man who by sheer luck and quick reflexes manages to survive the first wave of the beast apocalypse. He then proceeds to swallow a beast core and BOOM, new powers baby! It's the beginning of the powering up of an obviously OP MC, as we see by the fact that the only other character we meet cant even keep up with his core consumption. The power system is simple, for now: eat cores, concentrate on what you want to improve, and your body responds. There are no stat screens, no skill windows, no system messages so far.
The style is interesting, mature and calculated. The author might spend a lot of words on technical explainations and gun safety use, but it's all well within character for the MC. There are no grammar mistakes and the sentences flow well, the use of the inner monologue adds characterization to on otherwise loner MC, and the onomatopoeia use is good, and not jarring.
The characters are interesting. The MC is likeable and nice while also badass and cool, a hard thing to do. The only member of the supporting cast is a literal nerd who provides exposition and comedic relief. However, it is also clear that there's a growth path outlined for him, and he won't always stay a naive weakling. We'll need to wait to see more people, if there will be any, but as far as apocalypse setting goes it's pretty well done.
So far no fancy magic or Jiujitsu, but a lot of guns and i love it. Feels very western, you know?
Also the mc clearly has practical skills and he's not scared to use then. All in all, feels very well constructed and a pleasure to read! - PauljosephskiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A good progression fantasy that is worth your time to read. The power system currently isn't completely flushed out, but considering the current arc that makes sense. The MCs gold finger is pretty OP, but we are still unsure of the potential consequences of said gold finger. This story is definitely grim dark, and gets more dark as you read. Be prepared for people to die. It's a good read.
