Badly Optimized Hero

Description

Hero Dadson has it all: his trusty blade (a rusty fragment of what was once a sword); a wise mentor (cloned mind of a definitely insane wizard with potentially sentient eyebrows); a crucible in which to test his mettle (a deranged dungeon trying to kill him); and a loving family to support him (NaN).

So why is he hell-bent on breaking every rule of heroics he can think of?

Hi, it's me, the person writing this! What began as a deranged product of my Covid addled brain has evolved into a slightly more serious narrative about an unconventional Hero grappling with the challenges of bizarre and unusual dungeon instances (kind of more like large scale holodeck environments, with characters and subplots, and setting?! I thought this was about killing goblins and get sweet L00tz?).

Slow power build, system-lite, but lots of emphasis on using abilities in clever ways. Also the world building, I'm obsessed with the world building. I have a serious problem. This was supposed to be a crack-comedy, why do I have pages of notes on the hypothetical biology of cartilaginous mud creatures?

Usually I'm enamored with the mage/scholarly main character but love the direction the story has taken! Every character is well fleshed out and I love to see their interactions. Hugh, my heart goes out to you, just remember, no thoughts.
Side note: I love what the meaning of "May she rest in peace" turned out to be.
