Description
The world ended in 2012.
The arrival of Mana changed everything, as it mutated normal animals into powerful monsters, giving birth to nightmares. Dungeons populated the land, and civilization was on retreat.
Then, the System came, and humans had a way to fight back. They picked the pieces and built back up.
James Summers is a young man standing at the precipice of adulthood. He knows that the rot and corruption threaten the fragile peace humanity has earned with blood. If things don't change soon, it might be too late.
He might just have to take the situation in his own hands.

- AlFlamelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is, at first glance, a classic manhwa story, put into writing and changed a little bit to suit RR tastes. On a deeper look, it becomes apparent that the author has decided to use the popular genre to try and send a message.
It's still early to see exactly what this message may be, but I can tell that an analysis of the current economic and political system has been done. The Guild structure depicted in Awakener resembles uncannily that of large corporations eating up America right now, and the weak, ineffective Awakener Association, is a perfect example of government being useless.
More than just these edgy concepts, Awakener tries to delve deeper in. As I said, it's still early, but I noticed hints of the possible direction this story is going towards.
The grammar has been more than acceptable. Every once in a while a small mistake, but they have been quickly addressed. The characters are interesting and, once again, show a lot of promise. James, the MC, is a perfect representation of the average American young man, but he also has a grit and personality that make him unique.
Small details about the world he lives in make Awakener a top tier story.
I'll definitely keep an eye on it. - AlejandroKingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly, reading this story felt like watching a Saturday morning cartoon where a plucky group of heroes try and save the day in a local sense while the stronger older folks have a larger fight at their end. I loved every moment of the story.
The MC is instantly relatable as a down-on-his-luck city kid but without the existential pathos so prevalent in this genre. I was struck by how normal the MC is. He isn't the Earth's Only Hope or a Primal Hotshot, but a regular, average dude and the story painstakingly follows him and his team as they rise through the ranks.
I liked the slow pace of progression but by the end the author did speed it up a little bit. Hopefully, when he writes the next book in this story, he slows down a bit again. And if we can go back to how the start of the book was, I would like nothing more than that.
Now, this book isn't perfect. The Stat and exp numbers are messed up though the progression is still satisfying.
The teammate characters get sidelined by the end which I felt was a disservice to their solid characterization. The skill progression system which is important in Book 1 gets sidelined for just level-ups.
However, for me, none of these things took away my enjoyment of reading this story. Go ahead and try it! - AlexwwmtRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly it’s a great read. Sure there’s better out there, but it’s well beyond its rating in my opinion. The words are captivating and the grammar is neat. The plot is complex but not so much so that it’s difficult to follow. The best part is easily the characters. I feel myself click with every one of them and I am excited to see each of their development. The growth is handled very good as well, well thought out and with lots of room to grow. I find myself enjoying each level that is hard earned and hard fought. Truly a great read. Thanks for all the chapters!
- BirchesLoveBooksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, this story was a lot of fun to read and I hope that the author does return to this universe in the future. There's still a ton of potential for future developments without falling into cliched tropes, whether the focus remains on the original MC or delves into the stories of the various other character's we've been introduced to.
Style: Well-written prose with good pacing, tone, and style. Clear descriptions of complex events, particularly the battles that the MC and his cohorts get into.
Story: Each of the Books has a clear plot arc which moves everything forward well. Good pacing, lots of twists and turns, and an overall very enjoyable experience. Backstory was presented well, allowing the reader to understand the context of the present universe without getting bogged down or distracted. Multiple sub-plots were smoothly developed and woven into the larger arcs.
Grammar: No concerns with grammar, though there were a few small errors and/or typos scattered throughout. Nothing that took away from the story or made it hard to read.
Character: The main character was well fleshed out, developing in a believable and understandable fashion. His friends, enemies, and the various side characters were all interesting and gave a diverse and deep texture to the story. - Brianna StormCloudRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very enjoyable so far, MC is an average guy who wants to improve himself, awakens and generally uses his brain first, before allowing his temper to control him. There are lots of background factors , cute girl, cool grandparents, bully guilds etc too. This is well written with few grammatical/spelling errors.

The author has a great prose that flows well, very easy to follow. I had no issues visualizing the scenes in my head. The pacing is good, makes it too easy to binge, I was surprised when I realised I caught up to the latest chapter. I didn't notice any info dumping, the way the author introduced us to the world was very natural. The way the author balances dialogue and thoughts is done well, the text doesn't seem broken at all, flows well like I've mentioned. I'll defo be taking some notes lol.
Story
It's an interesting take on the world ending on 2012, the responses of the major world powers and the emergence of guilds is quite realistic and what one would expect which shows to me that the writer has spent a great deal on world building. The special talent that James gets is something I've not read in other stories, or something that if present isn't usually done well. I'm intrigued to see how the author plays this! Even in the MC's world, the talent is quite unique.
Like most of us RR readers, I love seeing numbers go up. Not only is this a LitRPG but it has rankings! I get a certain thrill seeing character go from H rank all the way to S rank. James may only have started his journey as an Awakener but I can't wait to see him breakthrough one rank after another. Right now, he has to respect them S rank beings but I'm sure one day he'll be amongst them!
Grammar
Perfect grammar. If there were any mistakes, I did not notice them.
Characters
I love James' character, he's loyal to his loved ones, not wanting to lie to his grandparents and also not one to back down from danger. If someone saves him, he will repay the favour, he's genuinely a good guy which makes it easy to root for him. I also like that he knows what he wants and is ready to take calculated risks to get it. But at the same time, he won't make impulsive decisions just because the reward might be high, he'll make sure he knows what he is getting himself into.
As for the side characters, the author d - Redcoat2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0After reading the currently last chapter all I want is to read more!
I like the potential the MC's power has, the glimpse of how he could end up going down a berserker type path or have some other type of unproductive aspect is interesting.
I can't wait to read more, the team building, power progression, and character development have the potential to be brilliant! - SethsmagicRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is great it's fast paced has great character development at least to my reading and has a storyline that keeps you motivated to keep reading because you are never really sure what exactly is happening on the periphery of the main characters but you know something is going on. You find out as they main character increases in rank he is not immediately dumped in the deep end
- SilvershadowhuntressRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This Book feels alot like solo leveling but with a more in depth system. Love how for once the guilds weren't the good guys. James and his team are truly interesting, didn't put this story down except to sleep. Very fascinating story keeping it in my follow and favorites. Cant wait to read more!
- DagNabItAllRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Pretty good!
It's early days but the story so far is a group based dungeon crawler in a slow burn system apocalypse. The writing style is pretty good, no complaints, and the MC generally acts in a reasonable and relatable manner. I'm liking it enough I will follow it, but I'm not quite hooked enough to sign up for the Patreon.
