Community Rating
Description
Humanity will need every warrior it can find to have any chance of surviving.
Reality was shattered into pixels and lies as John discovered his entire life had been a meticulously crafted simulation.
Awakened in a cold, unfamiliar world, he finds himself thrust into a desperate war against inhuman monsters, on the losing side.
But by using his incredible combat instinct developed over years as a duelist and champion, John aims to make a difference.
He has much to fight for, after all.
What to expect:
- Long-term progression-focused story.
- Romance, no harem.
- Growing power system.
- Mysteries that stay hidden for long stretches of time.
- A mix of action, progression and character focus.
- Unique enchantments and powers.
Main inspiration is Shadow Slave, though they are quite different. The first book is now finished, but the next one might take a while to come out.

- graziamkRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0It's still early, but one of my all-time favorites in Royal road so far. Kudos to the author.
Ugh, I have to reach 50 words... A unique take on isekai. I'm referring to the specific way that they get 'summoned'. Really like that the MC gets someone close to him to go with him, and that they get paired up, and have very complimentary skill sets. So far, I have really liked the action, magic, family and romance. Not the most complex magic system, but I don't think that would particularly benefit this novel, as much as I like them. - Daniel DruffeRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0I would buy this book. 10/10. I really like how it isn't litrpg. Each character is unique and has their own voice. Nice magic system. Generally in post apocalyptic cultures, everyone is deeply suspicious of each other and is insanely selfish - that isn't the case here. It's refreshing. Too bad it's ending soon π.
- InfraNaturalRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0I like it. And for me, that's enough to rate it a 5 stars. It's different from other novels and I like a good read. Keep it up, author.Β Don't let anyone discourage you from writing. As you said, some people rate it when they hate it, but those who like the novel don't rate. This is my first review ever because what you said resonated with me.
- Kanwal GuptaRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0Love this novel so far, the characters are very balanced and makes conversations easy to follow, main character has a passionate and comforting feel, the romance is simply great it feels very natural. The power progression is still in It's early stages and developing making is easy to understand stand and follow the growth , and best of all is the story, I have binged the novel and am dying for updates.
- moonsterdarkRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0I believe it's too early to hold judgement on where the story is going, though I quite like it for the time being.
My biggest problem with it is how transparent the MC feels. I understand the fmc and his mother knowing him so well that they could tell what's on his mind, but so far the rest feel like they can see through him just as well, Vera and Karin especially.
My second problem is the fmc's opacity, to the readers as well as to the MC, I think I'd appreciate a few chapters from her pov to see how she takes things.
My third problem is that since you've clearly stated that this is no harem, could you please develop male characters more than just information banks? The guy that woke him was never seen again, the director just for the info dump, the guy in white just there to bring him to the Lady, and the invoker in the protal to tell something is wrong. These characters are one dimensional. Don't surround your MC with women if you intend to have him be in a monogamous relationship.
The grammar is good.
I think it would be a good idea to have the facilities for the soldrier creation explain that they induce a desire for magic in all of their candidates, so that it could explain why the MC felt that he had to become the champion to be worthy of his dream girl. Otherwise it just feels like he was so dense that he couldn't tell that she already loved him back.
Good luck author I know writing can be difficult. - LawirkRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0I'm loving this story. I like the idea that everyone has the potential to use essence but it requires a certainty to access. Also, it's great that John is a thinker. In both how to best use his techniques and reflection on what he did in a fight. With other stories I'm mentally screaming at the main character to at least reflect on what they just did π
- LiquidDewRoyal Roadβ β β β β 5.0this story is a lot of fun! well written, and an intriguing premise, that only got more interesting in recent chapters! I don't get the complaints about lack of action, there was a lot of world building in the beginning chapters where there wasn't a fightΒ every chapter but enough that you get a good feel for how the mc will be fighting.
the world feels well considered and consistent (this is actually a strong point for me, not sure why other reviewers say that the world feels inconsistant?). The mcs starting powers involve interacting with physics (kinematics) and while I'm not an expert in physics I do know basic kinematics and the way things interact are refreshingly well reasoned!
the writing style isn't mind blowing but it does the job. people complaining about redundant narration, again i do not understand. there are, perhaps details that could be left implied instead of stated outright? I guess? but there are highly rated stories that do the 'tell don't show' thing way more egregiously than this story. I didn't even think of it as a criticism until I saw it in another review.
if you like big swords, power couples, and physics bending magical combat, check it out! - BlenheimRoyal Roadβ β β β β 4.5The setup for this story is similar the Spire Dweller, everything makes sense as a framework for a fantasy/soft sci-fi story.
I see some warning signs in the worldbuilding. The advanced society creating super soldiers should have a complex leadership and political structure which seems to be missing from their inept on boarding system. - MonsiRoyal Roadβ β β β β 4.5I've noticed I mostly leave reviews if a story frustrates me so I've decided to post a review to change this dynamic. I'm genuinely interested in how the story continues from here on forth. The story is different from regular portal fantasies, with a very interesting mix of isekai(don't want to spoil it~) and portal but in an unexpected way, still more leaning towards portal fantasy.
The characters are also up to standard, something I greatly appreciate. Especially the MC, something that personally would be a huge deal-breaker if it were not so. Grammar and story wise nothing to complain about. World building is nice, could be improved, but there is still a lot we don't know so I don't want to be impatient. Keep up the good work! - The Greatest NomanRoyal Roadβ β β β β 4.5I am one to believe that dark themes and progression fantasy (my second-favorite little sub-genre) go hand-in-hand. If anyone is a fan of the published author Phil Tucker, then you know what I mean. The trauma one can sustain through a path to progression, cultivation, war, violence, dungeon crawling, etc, is extremely informative to both the characters and the decisions they make. That is exemplified in this story, and it is one of my favs on this site.
