Description

Whenever she takes a life, Rena Shinohara grows just a little bit stronger…

In a desperate bid to show his worth amongst his fellow Court Mages, a certain mage fires his summoning spell earlier than intended—and it misfires. Instead of a great [Hero], he drags forth a [Demon Lord]—those who rule over the entirety of the demon populace and even death itself. Realising his mistake, he severs the contract before the girl can awaken to her true potential, hoping for her to die in a foreign land.

But, even the strongest mages cannot shy fate.

Because out there, somewhere—somewhere—two gods are pulling the strings…

~~~
Death? Really? Nah, no thanks.
Sure, I get stranded and fight roaches every second Tuesday for a while, but hey; I get stronger! I kill, and raise my stats so much that even power creeps would get jealous! Oh yeah, there's also this human-demon war about to break out and all, but that's none of my business.
Ugh, the one thing more stupid than politics is war.
    Ascension of the Demon Lord was an enjoyable read for me because it has a clear voice and characters who feel vivid. I prefer stories that move with ease and this one did that from the start. The premise felt solid to me and the execution held my attention.
    Rena stood out the most. Her self-deprecating humor and anxious thoughts gave her a strong presence on the page. I enjoy narrators who think in a way that feels honest and she matched that preference well. Her inner monologue has a steady mix of worry and wit that made her chapters lively. I found myself connecting with her because her reactions felt genuine and her energy made even simple moments interesting.
    Ray’s viewpoint offered a quieter tone. His grief and sense of responsibility gave the story a steady emotional weight that I appreciated. I like when a book gives me a second angle that helps me understand the world from a different emotional place. His perspective made the story feel fuller.
    The pacing moves at a quick speed and the chapters have enough length for me to settle into each scene. I enjoy longer chapters because they help me stay in the moment and this book followed that pattern in a way that felt right for my taste. The LitRPG and isekai elements were familiar to me, but they carried enough personality to feel fresh. Watching Rena rebuild herself from the start felt entertaining because her reactions carried humor and honesty.
    The writing style is clear and easy to follow. The stream of thought approach fits Rena well and supported the fast movement of the story. I enjoy writing that feels direct and this style matched that preference without feeling flat. I could also sense that the author enjoyed writing the main character. That sense of enjoyment made the reading experience pleasant for me.
    I did notice a few typos. For my taste, they were minor and easy to overlook because the lively voice carried me forward. I felt they did not interrupt the movement of the story and I found it easy to
    I had the pleasure to read this funny and chaotic book with lots of potential, and I'm sharing my thoughts on it with you guys.
    Character: Rena is the star of the show, for sure. She is indeed a "trippy" and compelling protagonist. Her voice is strong, characterized by extreme self-deprecation and social anxiety that's vocalized in a really funny way. If you're into self-depreciating humor, you will resonate with her really well. On the other hand, Ray's narrative segments are filled with grief, guilt, and a sense of responsibility that provides a nice contrast to Rena.
    Style: The writing style is super easy to follow, and predominantly driven by the protagonist Rena's internal monologue (even though there are more than one POV), making it highly accessible and easy to follow. It employs, and I might add, to great effect, a stream-of-consciousness, often humorous in a self-aware kind of way, heavily influenced by gamer/internet culture.
    Story: The narrative follows a familiar isekai/LitRPG structure but injects personality through Rena's lens. The LitRPG elements are nicely introduced and add to the humor of the story as Rena has to once again grind from the bottom. The pacing is super quick, so it's really suitable for a light, fun read.
    Grammar: The grammar generally serves the fast-paced, internal monologue style well but could benefit from some polishing. There are some typos, but a round of edits should fix most of it.
    Overall, "Ascension of the Demon Lord" presents a fun take on the isekai genre with a memorably "trippy" protagonist. With some refinement, it has the potential to be a truly standout story.
    The writing style is quite unique and takes some getting used to—but once you get acclimated (it takes about 3 chapters), it just flows! I don’t want to spoil anything and must warn you that if you hate bugs … well, maybe this isn’t for you.
    Get to chapter 5… that’s when things really kick off!
    The author clearly had a lot of fun writing the MC, which is a really great thing. Although, sometimes it feels over the top. Don't let this stop you from reading this story as it eventually evens out and there's some really cool ideas put in place here. Overall, I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what's next.
