Warning - Not Kaelin's POV For The First 12 chapters!
Kaelin, at 17 years old, is well past the age at which most people unlock their affinities for the threads. Any combination of: Nature, Mind, Essence, and Time. And yet, despite this she hopes: she hopes and she works in order to be ready once it does appear.
Kana on the other hand, can't understand why she does this, why put herself through the pain for something which is obviously not going to happen. Until it does.
In a world filled with magic, some spells have been lost to time, the strongest kept quiet by the high mages, and the most evil - forbidden - techniques locked away in the annals of history, only known to those who look. Their use is worthy of a punishment no less than death.
But what happens when someone ignores the rules? Those spells were forbidden for a reason. How can people resist without breaking the rules themselves?
After having found one such spell, Kaelin is put in an impossible position;forced to choose between using it, or losing a friend.

- Hunterart002Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The style is flawless—rich in detail and explanation, making it easy to follow the events as they unfold. Since the story, setting, and power system are highly unique compared to most on RR, this helps readers get accustomed to the world and how it operates. Very well done.
Story: The plot develops rapidly and continuously—gone are the days of stories stuck in loops where the same things happen over and over. With deep character and world-building, this story focuses on exploring its world further and further without ever slowing down for unnecessary info dumps. It also has a very unique premise rather than following common trends.
Grammar: Flawless so far—or perhaps my English isn’t on par with professional editing—but everything flows smoothly, and nothing stands out as visibly wrong.
Characters: The characters are distinct—each with their own personality, history, and power. The main character isn’t the only one driving the story; every character introduced so far has taken action and shown their thoughts behind their decisions. Very enjoyable, and I can’t wait to see more.
Bonus – Power System: It may be difficult to grasp at first, but once you analyze it, you’ll realize just how cool it really is. - bcmetcalfRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is about magic and a group of kids just beginning their magical education. It has likable and not-so-likable characters. While the story is about younger people, it doesn't feel juvenile and keeps you engaged.
The style is quick-paced and entertaining. It has great descriptions and awesome uses of magic. Each chapter will keep you ready to click to the next one.
The grammar was great. I can't remember any issues. The writer is a Brit, so there are a few alternative spellings of American English words...but who cares?
The story moves along and you never need to press on to find the good stuff. The female MC is a great character that is unassuming...but you know that won't last for long. She has a rare magic type and I can't wait to see how she learns to utilize it.
The characters feel like pre-teen/teenage people. They have the types of concerns and worries as adults, but they are packed into the microcosm that is their academy. The writer knows how to reveal insecurities and vulnerabilities organically. The list of characters, as of Chapter 19, isn't enormous, and the writer gets to spend time focusing on the MC and the characters making up the periphery of her story.
I follow this story and read every chapter that's released. I believe you will, too! - Void QuillRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great start! The training field scene felt immersive, and I loved the vivid descriptions, I could practically smell that scorched grass. Daniel’s confidence (bordering on arrogance) makes him a fun protagonist to follow, and Kana’s cleverness adds a great dynamic.
The magic system with threads is intriguing, and the battle was fast-paced and intense. Kaelin’s determination in the background was a nice touch, already setting up some interesting rivalry. Definitely curious to see where this goes! 🌿✨ - Raizia URoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall:
While AS does not stand out with a ground breaking plot, the story it's self is very good. I'm not usually a fan of magcial education stories like this, but I've added this one to my list to eventually finish reading.
The world building is very well done and the author has clearly spent alot of time in putting it together. I firmly belive after a solid editing pass and a good polish, this novel can stand as one of the greats!
Style:
The action scenes are really well done! There is depth to them which many writers struggle to capture. Other than the fight scenes the imagery is vivid. Not many novels I read can actively make me watch a movie in my own head as I read the words.
Story:
The story moves at a faster pace, which is good. Most stories get bogged down in endless exposition, and drawn out.
The magic system in this novel is unique, especially with the use of magical threads. Really well done by the author in this regard.
Combat is well thought out, which is a huge plus. Most MCs I've across just brute force their way through fights. So seeing actual strategy mid fight is refreshing.
Grammer:
The story could use another editing pass to polish some small flaws and some grammatical issues. There is nothing glaring or enough to break the immersion.
Characters:
The characters are very well thought out. The over all premie of the novel follows younger characters, and does well to capture that.
Not only that, every character feels like they have thier own agency which helps drive the novel ahead in tandem with the MC. Which is a clear break from alot of novels on this site. - GanuRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The standout feature of this story is its power system and the dynamic fight sequences built around it. The Thread magic adds a unique twist to combat, leading to some clever and strategic battles. While the overall plot so far doesn’t break new ground, it excels at being fun, fast-paced, and highly engaging. If you’re looking for a story that captures the thrill of academy trials and duels, this delivers. You will be Grinning while reading this.
The writing is competent but unpolished, with occasional awkward phrasing and grammatical errors. But nothing that breaks the immersion. Descriptions are solid, and action sequences are easy to follow.
The story moves at a breakneck pace, which is great for those who love constant action and tension. However, some character interactions feel rushed, particularly between Daniel and Kana.
Nothing on worldbuilding yet. Hopefully the author decides to go beyond the academy.
The protagonist, and the cast is pretty good. Dialogues are natural, and the feel is cozy and warm. I like Zephyr a lot, he is the Fushiguro or Sasuke of the group.
As of now I am getting TBATE, HxH, and MHA vibes from this one with a mix of something like Harry Potter maybe. So, this is pure escapism—a fun, fast read with exciting battles and an easy-to-follow style. If you love academy-based stories with strategic fights, you’ll have a great time here. - Ember1213Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Currently just finished Chapter Tweleve and I'm certainly intrigued. The characters and the dynamics between feel very natural. The story is very simple to the point I'm at but introduces the world to the reader in an immersive way and has the potential to go more in depth as it goes. My one major issue with the story is that it can be a bit too fast paced for my liking but that's mostly subjective. While I did praise the characters for feeling very natural, I don't see much in the way it a formation of a character arc beside maybe Kana. The level of detail is great, especially during the action scenes. Every move is impactful and paints a great picture. The grammar is almost perfect and what errors there are, they're barely noticeable. This is good as in a story like this, immersion is key. If you like a fast paced story with fantastic action, I would 100% recommend
- ShaylaRoyal Road★★★ 3.0After about 40 chapters if I had to use one word to describe my thoughts or feelings about the story it would be 'shallow'.
The author uses the viewpoints of two different characters aside from our MC to set up an important plot point before our main story kicks off. Well, tries. 12 chapters is a bit too long for how little the, let's call it prologue, actually relayed.
Then we get to experience our MC's viewpoint for the first time, but here's the issue. There was barely any interaction with the MC and only a little said about them in the 'prologue' so our MC is a blank page to readers. We know nothing about their past, their aspirations, or thoughts. All we know is their name and that they don't have magic, but are trying to pass some exams. Why? We don't know.
Then we get to the school and teachers. The author is trying to set up some veiled mystery about magic, how the world is portrayed vs how it actually is and about possible horrors in the shadows, but it all feels hollow. It's like I'm reading a sign that says 'this is a mystery' and I'm supposed to just roll with it.
It's not a terrible story, but there's no soul in it.
