I thought the start was a bit rough, but I absolutely love the direction the story has taken. The characters are complex and the MC clearly shows a deep personality and continuing growth. And the exploration of psychology, physiology, and identity as the MC learns their power is a very enjoyable read. Plenty of action too!

Are You Even Human is a thoughtfully put together story, and because of that, it feels as if I am able to trust the author to avoid plot holes, or taking the story in a ridiculous direction. Normally when I read a story, I am quite wary, because I cannot be sure when something is a plot holes/ nonsensical, or when it will come to make sense later in the story. The author is very consistent in the rules of their story, and anything that makes the reader question the story turns out to be an important part of the plot that is revealed more fully later. It is very relieving seeing something which appears to be an inconsistency, and being able to question it from within the confines of the story rather than just thinking ‘is this just a plot hole?’
the characters are all excellent, and each have their own challenges which need to be overcome. Characters are not just props or tools to advance the plot, I always end up becoming curious about them, with a few exceptions.
the story is captivating, I am often on the edge of my seat, trying to guess at what might come next.
No grammar issues as far as I am aware.
the protagonists internal dialogue is very well done, and I like the style.

TLDR: Will scratch that "gritty superpower in crappy world" itch very well. Worm fans and similar, be welcomed.
Once again, I start reading a great novel with raving reviews, and it's unfinished. Why do I keep doing this to myself?
I won't talk about triggers and if it's your taste or not, you can probably guess that from the description. I will say the atmosphere of the first part of the story is oppressive, but it lets go a little as our MC stops being so against the wall all the time. This story isnt about a punch bag.
That aside, this is some great stuff. The characters are great, specially the MC, who manages to tether the line between having some compassion, being socially aware and getting stuff done marvelously. I don't think I have read a history with an MC quite like this before.
The style is good; Its in first person and I like how it's somewhat shaped by the MC's current choice of body.
The story is also good, the threats feel pretty real and heavy. It makes you fear for the main cast. It's also in a good point to start reading; a mayor arc (the best one yet) just finished.
The characters are both flawed and not annoying, which is how I personally like it. The aliens of the last arc were particularly delightful and
    Had some excellent shit talking
and I am not sure if the author can top that.
The most important thing: I have enjoyed a lot reading it. Some stories can be well written and well though and not be all that enjoyable. Sometimes, I will read 40 chapters of something and think "that was nice" and never go back to it. This one, I want for in anticipation.
I have no money to give, but if I ever win the lottery, this author may one day cross the street and find a bag with ten thousand bucks. Not the worst gig.

There is a sweet spot between horror and comedy and thundamoo here hits it right on the head every single time. I have not regretted reading even one chapter of any of their novels and this one is mo exception. Hell this one is quickly becoming favorite of their works.

Loved everything Thundamoo has put out so far and this could potentially be her best work yet!
Always love the world building in her series and I'm extremely excited to see where the bread crumbs already laid out will take us. Extremely fun powers and like always our main character is delightfully fucked up in all the right ways.
    Can't wait for Volume 2

This is my absolute favorite of the author's novels. The aliens are alien and so many stories just completely miss the mark on that. I don't even care for superhero found family narratives that much. But the setting is quietly(and loudly) desperate, the plot is advancing at a steady and extremely engaging pace, and the tension keeps building. If this was a movie the theremins would be off the charts. And it's got that delightfully queer thundamoo special sauce that brings it all together for me. Great fic and it deserves a lot more praise than it's received.

This is a very entertaining story! As usual the characters are well thought out and believable enough despite the insane circumstances. There are definitely some dark themes, but they're handled very well and they don't feel 'forced' into the book to make it seem more serious or something. They just arise naturally due to the plot.
I enjoy the design of the monsters and the function of their presence.
Alien invasions are way cooler when the aliens aren't all just raving thoughtless monsters. (I'm definitely expecting some complications to arise when the MC can't help but sympathize more with the aliens than with humans, probably at some critical moment.)
I also like how the author handled the MC's powers. They are creepy as heck. There are a lot of weird possibilities when it comes to shapeshifting, and it seems that in a lot of cases these possibilities are left entirely untapped. Not so for this book; the author is doing a fantastic job exploring what a shapeshifter could actually do, and what it means that a person's entire body, including their brain is getting replaced over and over.
I'm having a lot of fun reading this book. If you think shapeshifting is cool than you'll probably love this too.

Very well written in all meaningful fronts. I struggled a lot with the start and skimmed to get past the... To put it bluntly: introductory/exposition internal commentary of a cynic with a hard life. It's not badly written, just mundane and not particularly fun.Once the action gets started it's really, really good. Maybe even some of the best reading I've encountered, on the internet, on RR for sure. The characters are fantastic and believable as well. It's takes a bit to get to know them, but they all seem plausible. If I have any gripes past that point, is that there are quite a few glaring tells that the author has regarding their ideology, and I disagree with them on a fundamental level with probably a lot. But that does not disqualify the story from being well written. Sometimes it It just feels like I'm reading what Narnia is to an atheist, but the inverse?

So imagine the most terrifying apocalypse story full of aliens destroying whole regions with unearthly powers that infect random people and then follow our hero as she mother hen treats her friends. It's endearing as the most freaky body horror stuff happens while she worries about her friends! If that isn't discovering candied burnt ends in a story I don't know what to tell you.

Very enjoyable story I've read up to chapter 19 at the time of this review. The things I found most enjoyable:
    -Unique post-apocalyptic world
    -novel magic system
-Stream of consciousness narrative, which is uncommon but works well with this particular story
    -good tension
    -------------------
Some people might dislike the stream of consciousness, which explain the MC's challenges but don't advance the plot at the speed of some other stories. It's also more gritty, which is not surprising in a teetering-on-apocalypse world.
