Description
The Age of Magic is over.
From the ancient land of Arune rises great metropolises, of nations born from a new era of industry. From ancient towns of stones and farms are the great cities of brick and mortar, civilizations built on foundations of steel and brick. Factories billow smog into gray skies, the slums of society keeping the gears of civilization turning.
The City of South, four million souls of all Arunean races. A beacon of democracy, freedom, and liberty from a world of medieval savagery.
But within dark alleyways the tendrils of criminal wars flourish, in bustling taverns are violent revolutions planned, and in the depths of forgotten sewers do cults pray to their dark gods.
South, the crossroads of the center of the world, convulsing under its own weight.
One thing keeping order in the chaos:
Underfunded, undermanned; investigating the most dangerous, maddening, and outrageous cases in this vast city: the men and women of the Arcane Crimes Unit.
These are their stories.

- Shelly2022Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this new story of Arcane Crime Units by YONO. His language reads like poetry; his characters are fascinatingly vivid; and his plot is patiently paced and intricately executed.I Cannot get enough of it! Also I Have some trouble put it down. :)
I am also following the other stories the author posted on this site. I don't know how the anthour could have created vastly different worlds, developed drastically different characters, drafted equally fascinating storylines, let alone the carefully crafted settings and situational conversations. But I am enjoying all of these stories!!!
This new story, compared to the other stories the author posted here, is a more contemporary reading. The way each scene was described, the dialogues the characters conducted, are emotionally tense and always have the lure to bring readers right into the swirling center of the story.
Reading YONO’s writings almost always makes me feel like watching a movie for some reason. It might be due to the carefully planned scenes and intense conversations, or maybe the emotional connections and resonance with the readers. I think if these stories were to be put on big screens, they could be so easily and readily adapted. :)
Looking forward to enjoying the reading experience as the series goes on! - frankinnolaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This has been an enjoable read, a mix of Hill Street Blues, LOTR, cyberpunk, fantasy, science fiction plus more in a world mixed with science and magic. Were you have organized crime, set in industrial age, with myths from days of magic mixed. The writing style reminds me of some of the old English novels from my high school days. It has been enjoyable so far and I forward to each chapter.
