- QueenInRagsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Shockingly good. An exiting tale of a baking adventurer in a unique never before seen dungeon novel. Overall character development is amazing with unique skills and an amazing backdrop. Overall so far id rate it a solid ten out of ten as long as the author keeps the story going.
- KeywielderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very interesting start to an amazing story, imagine a baker wanting to be an adventurer, the author did! The main character already has a lot of depth only 9 chapters in and you feel like you know him and his family even though they're only mentioned a couple of times in the story. Each side character we've met so far has been fleshed out with their own uniqueness and personality. The world he has built is well thought out, everyone has a class and the only way to change it is to go into one of the great dungeons on a run, which is a big entertainment draw for the kingdom. The world is a nice mix of medieval modernized with magic. The chapters are all a pretty good length, the paragraphs are broken up well and the grammar is smooth with no noticeable mistakes. Overall I'm looking forward to how the MC grows as a character with this new life in front of him, who he'll meet and what he'll face in the dungeon! I definitely recommend giving this a read, the only problem is there aren't enough chapters yet, you can tell the author is passionate about his writing so I know this is going to be a great story!
- TinyBookDragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As of chapter 16
The premise is interesting and the MC isn't just a murderhobo (not that I mind murderhobos).
The writing quality is high. The way people speak to each other feels natural, sentences are well put together, and world-building has been shown rather than just info dropped. I'm excited to follow along as the MC explores the dungeon and becomes stronger.
I'm glad that even with the MC being a Monster Tamer he's still able to fight and hold his own. Seems more like he's going to be fighting alongside his tamed monsters rather than hiding behind them. I approve.
5 stars for the potential/quality as the few grammar issues can be easily fixed later. - hotdog247Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great series. Amazingly well written with lots of great character interaction. I look forward to more world building and getting into the background of the dungeons and the actual world. Mainly I am looking forward to what looks soon to be interaction with the "real" world. Thank you author for this unique take in this genre.
- KarmaARoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0MC is a baker's son, who loves baking but wants something more. The story then follows as he joins a massive wave of dungeon delvers who must not only survive the dungeon but must do so while trapped/living inside the dungeon and with extremely limited support from the outside.
Fun, confusion, and adventure ensue! - What class and combat style will he learn?
- Will he make friends or remain isolated?
- Who are the other delvers and what motivates them?
- Can the delvers survive larger and larger (upto Kaiju sized so far) opponents?
If you enjoy well thought out and well written fantasy stories that aren't grimdark (or force you to read a ton of POVs for some night soil collector two continents away) you should give this one a shot. Perfect set of books to stay warm with on some cold and rainy days.
As far as typos go, there might be one or two per chapter if you're reading it immediately after posting but the author is quick to fix any that commenters note and 99/100 aren't confusing or jarring. Would definitely put this near the top of RR when it comes to overall quality. - MMA+SirOwlbieRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This... I'm honestly not sure what to say about this one.
On one hand, I like the world and how the dungeon works. It's not necessarily incredibly complex or unique, but it came off as this nice campy, sort-of carefree thing (which I'm pretty sure is NOT what the author intended, but whatever) and the 'broadcast' elements, why they haven't played a major part yet, are an interesting hook.
On the other... there's something very incredibly artifical about this story, and I don't know what. The characters come off as sort of bland and thin, and nothing feels very impactful. Nothing really serves to draw me in, and I don't really care about anyone in particular. The dungeon itself and the MC's progress throughout is good enough, the action's okay, but it's not really all that hooking or interesting.
It's not the pace- the pace is okay. If anything, the pace is TOO fast and the story doesn't take the breathers necessary to build up the characters so we feel some sort of attachment towards them. Myles... isn't all that interesting. He's a very basic protagonist, and if the intentional feel was 'just reading about any ol' dungeon Runner, except this one is just one of the better ones' then that is the feeling I got.
Thing is, if your main character isn't a Chosen One - and I don't think this story would be better if Myles was something like that - then there has to be something for the readers to latch onto. Myles' personality isn't compelling, he's relatively bland with few emotional beats and can come of as robotic at times. The story by itself, what there is, isn't enough to fuel my interest, and since I'm not the type to be taken by 'Systems' or potential and keep reading just to see what powers are shown, there isn't much here for me to feel it's worth reading.
Not in the sense I'm searching for a 'unique' experience, but more in the sense that even if I'm after a good 'by-the-numbers' read, this doesn't scratch that itch because I don't feel like I'm experiencing any - Red YetiRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This is a great story with the end of book 1 at the 38th entry. There is excitement, a unique class system, monsters, and very interesting characters. The author will release the story on Amazon soon which may have some editing changes that would affect my review. I would be willing to give this story at least 4.5 stars, maybe even 5, if it weren't for all the spelling issues. There were numerous, recurring spelling issues that were jarring and detracted from my immersion in the story. I have no complaints about the story itself, the characters, or the style. I quite enjoyed it and binged every available chapter in one day.
