- Chaos JesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Apocalypse Unleashed is your standard story of: it was a perfectly normal day, and the the monsters came. That being said, it mixes a great progression tree with realistic, well-rounded characters, and an attention to detail that some authors spend their entire careers yearning for.
The style of the story stays consistent throughout, matching pace with the events that are happening. Chris does a good job of setting the atmosphere from the beginning, introducing you to two typical teenagers. As they make their way to school, he ups the creepy factor until suddenly, you're right into the action. The formatting of the system tables is user-friendly for the MC, but also super user-friendly for the reader.
If there were any issues with grammar, they were lost on me. Nothing that broke my immersion. No awkward syntax problems or odd punctuation choices.Characters also speak realistically, and internal thought and feeling is done well.
The story itself is a classic, and one that will do well on this site. It's still in the early stages, but once the unique parts of the story start shining through past the usual tropes, it's clear that Apocalypse Unleashed will become a stronghold of its own. The system is simple enough to follow along, but not so simple that it seems like an afterthought. The nuances to this story in particular, especially the detail within the scenes and battles, are crisp and fresh.
We've only had a handful of characters to this point, and minus a couple of real quick background characters, none have sunk into an archetype. Instead, they rely on individual personalities that mesh well with each other. That chemistry between characters will be a driving force in this story moving forward.
Overall, this is a fun take on the genre combos of Apocalypse and LitRPG so far. It touches what fans of the genres enjoy while also balancing its own identity. I'm excited to see what Chris has in store moving forward. - Experiment ZeroRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First off - I read this story the first time it got posted (right up to the end of book one). I am excited for it to be back which basically says everything about how much I enjoy the story.
Overall I give it five stars - there are a few minor flaws which I get into in the subsections of the review. But overall the storyline flows nicely and is great for binge reading.
The characters are teenagers. They are well written, but also realistically written.
I love the interactions between some of the teens - they feel genuine and make me want to read on to find out more about them, their history, passions and fears etc.
Not everyone is a Mary Sue, not everyone is a genius etc etc. this can make some of the characters a bit annoying because they are led by emotions but I think it's reasonably well executed.
The grammar is good enough that I can't find any flaws. So full stars there!
The story ... well the blurb explains what it's about and the story lives up to it. It's a post apocalyptic setting with teenage twins as the main characters. So if that's the genre you're after this is the book for you!
There are fun magic systems, new peoples and places. Everything you could want ;)
The style is better than good by RR standards. The sentences flow well and it's easy to read. My only complaint (and it's a minor one) is that the pacing is a little inconsistent in a few places. Nothing major though. Lots of action throughout, but magic theorising by the mc can slow it down a bit. There was also one short arc in the middle that wasn't quite as appealing to me - but binge reading to the win! Having a few slower chapters mixed in every now and again is hardly noticeable that way.
Also - regular updates! That's not to be underestimated. - Juan GomezRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0After reading 20 chapters, with which I suffered because I started reading at night and had to go to sleep, I can say that I love this story.
The characters: I love the main ones and the secondary ones too, their reactions, feelings and personalities are well written, the tertiaries (extras) are as you would expect, unpleasant people who make you want a monster to appear and eat them, just to shut up and stop bothering.
The story: At the moment little or nothing is known about the grand scheme of things, but as far as I read thanks to the visions (it seems that only the main character has them, suspicious) we found out a little about the reason for the apocalypse, what which I like, the story is just beginning and it would be rare for the characters to have a lot of information.
Grammar: I didn't read English perfectly, I still have a long way to go to get to that point, but thanks to google translator and this page. lets copy the text i can enjoy this story so i may not see some grammatical errors but with the translator it reads almost perfectly.
The style: I don't know what this would be so I better not write anything lol.
The general: I highly recommend this story, the author so far knows how to maintain a balance between action and calm, with a power system that has many possibilities and almost unknown enemies that represent a threat to all humanity and worthy of being the villains of history - Kuruto_desuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A Great Read for those who loves An Apocalyptic Setting with System Involved and The Story is Well written and i just hope for the futures chapter that there will be no unnecessary killing of Characters for no reason.
A Great Read for those who loves An Apocalyptic Setting with System Involved and The Story is Well written and i just hope for the futures chapter that there will be no unnecessary killing of Characters for no reason and i also hope that there will be more exciting fight within and outsid ethe dungeons. - Marin77Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A more or less stadart litrpg story with a very nice flow to the progress.
The people seem to be nicely multifaceted and more or less likeable.
The story does not seem to be trapped in level plain of gaining levels but seems to be building towards some change in the situation.
Of course we cannot forget the cute baby dragon too. - QueSeaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, this is a well written, entertaining read. The grammar and spelling are some of the best I've read. The author has a good grasp of word form which is refreshing. So many stories where the author uses wait instead of weight, as an example, or vise versa which is glaring and immersion breaking. Not the case here.
The story is tight and well paced. There's some decent world building but still a ton left to be revealed. The particulars on the system are a little murky but layers are being peeled back over time which is good. I'm looking forward to seeing how the author further differentiates how each character specializes in this system. I'm also looking forward to seeing how the bond works and changes. That has some potential as well.
My one quibble is the MC. He seems stuck between seeing himself as a pragmatic tough guy and then also as an insecurity ridden teen. He's overall likeable so its not that big of an issue. The sister at times, at least initially, also felt more like a girlfriend more than his sister. That situation improves later on.The other characters are fleshed out enough to be unique while not becoming so involved as to take away from the main actors. - SeelenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hey readers,
first at all - I am a fan of apocalypse stories and more of that I am a fan of well written Apocalypse Stories. These one really fits it.
The Auhtor please us with an easy system, which works well enough and is easy enough so everyone is able to enjoy the story beside the fact the system benefits it as well.
The concept isnt new and follow a long list of well written other apocalypse stories, while the way MC chose for his abilities gave us some new stuff to think about. Since a long time I was sick of leading another Blacksmiths, Fire Mages or totally overpowerd Main Characters.
Here is important that our beloved Main Characters starts like everyone else while his personality made him capable to adopt the situation with the right decisions. He isnt a genius or starts with strong cheat abilities instead of that he comes with a strong will.
The characters and more the sidecharacters are deep enough to enjoy the story while we follow MC throughe he surviving the first days of the apocalypse. Most intentions of the the upcomming characters are easily to understand and decisions are logically understandable.
The differences between to other stories of these genre delievers us a fresh breeze that made it more than easy to enjoy it. What is important for a good literature is that sidecharacters benefits the mainstory and the main character which is here good given.
Until yet we didnt seen much of the world. But, we can say the world is nice written what made it for the reader is to imagine the world around the story at all. Things arent overdiscribed and we have a good speed inside story without being to slow that we arent came somewhere and it isnt to fast so we are missing important or interesting parts of it. The auhtor knows what he does on this front.
The Style is a bit different to other authors what comes up where auhtors chose their focuses while it is the first time I read something from this one I am sure I will read more than this one story from hi - Shades98Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0As for a story this is like a lot of the stories on this website. It has a different leveling system that is well thought out and has a lot of different possibilities. This also is a good direction to take this were high school students are the only ones who survive the introduction to this world.
I have found this story enjoyable to read and yet at the same time feel there is so much possibility in this authors world that people should read it to see if they find that they enjoy it too. Some people will and some won't.
Now we finally find out that the students are taken to a different world. There are multiple reasons why the shadowborne have started attacking and yet the MC finds himself in the middle of this mess and is given a quest to pretty much fix it. There are atleast 4 different sides to this world it gives a new meaning of messed up. - Slifer274Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fun ride so far! I don't read much litRPG and especially not apocalypse litRPG so this is kind of my first exposure to this subgenre, and it was executed pretty well!
Style: 5/5 No major complaints here. There's some minor things with certain sentence fragments feeling too short, and some descriptions feel skimmed over, but when I say minor I mean it. Overall, a very smooth read, much easier to get into than much of what you can find on RR.
Story: 5/5 Now, like I said before, I'm not a huge litRPG guy. This fic so far, however, has done a great job of introducing the system--which is intuitive without being too simple--and creating an atmosphere with interesting magic and intriguing plot. It's still in its early stages, but it reads like it's been thought out, and I have high hopes for where it'll go in the future.
Grammar: 5/5 No major issues.
Character: 4/5 This is my one gripe with the fiction. The characters do have some level of development, and they do have decent nuance, especially with the main duo, but there are a number of characters that feel rather flat. A decent number of the other students/teachers feel a little too Chaotic Stupid. It's not a huge impact on the fic, though, so it's not a big problem. - TrollmoreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story: Apocalypse Unleashed is the dream come true of every one of us who wished the world would end before we have to take a math test. It follows the developmentally-appropriate struggles of Aiden and his slow descent into murderhobodom as he learns to value XP drops over the lives of his useless classmates. They probably had it coming.
Grammar: We all know how grammar tends to go on RoyalRoad. Well, fortunately for you, that's not how it goes here! The author not only lovingly composed sentences in genuine Oxfrod-dictionary-certified English, but crafted them using the finest principles of putting words where they're supposed to go and using punctuation and stuff.
Style: The pacing is slow enough to pick up the details of the world, but fast enough that the engaged reader isn't left with any awkward questions. I appreciated the use of blue boxes to highlight which information was relevant.
Characters: There's few enough main characters that you don't need to hear about them, you'll run into them in the story. What really drew my attention were the background high schoolers, who are well-characterized as panicked, disorganized, petty, and distrusting. Really brought me back to my high school days.
I highly recommend reading this serial in math class for that extra degree of verisimilitude.
