- scruffy_hugoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great effort has been invested into the foundations of what is certainly gearing up to be a fantasy epic. Characters are relatable and flawed - the best kind - and I do like me a tale with a rich background, mysterious artifacts, and an innovative approach to magic systems. Keep it up SF!
- EythaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read and watched quite a few isekai and very few I've found really make the main character work for and earn each amount of progress. The early chapters have a bit of a safety net, but he burns through that fairly soon making future progress all the more dangerous.
In addition, there is a heavy sense of a built out world and system from the first chapter along with the elements introduced through his initial experiences in the world. It has a very clear sense that the story knows what it wants to be and goes with confidence.
The style is fairly straightforward with a third person narration, but there is some playfulness with the descriptions from the menu, item and abilities. It balances out well with the serious tone to keep things from not getting too heavy.
It's still early in the story with much of the focus on introducing the world and system. The first chapter provides a possibility of the direction to where things might be going in the future. With attention more on survival and learning about the new land, it stays grounded and ever expanding providing new information and curiosities.
There wasn't any issues noticed in the grammar. It read clean and easily to follow through the action.
The switch from the initial character to the main protagonist makes it unclear when or if the other will resurface. But Lucas is grounded and understandably confused and panicked by his situation. Though he does take quickly to what needs to be done for survival, he keeps a rational approach as he learned new information. Because of his exploratory and curious nature, it lets the story unfold for the reader as well expanding the world and keep things interesting.
It's a welcome change of pace from other isekai progressions where the improves come quick and easily. And there is a good mystery out in the world to look forward in future chapters. - FantasticDragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm enjoying this story and I look forward to following the character's travels and combats through this magical and savage fantasy world. I can see a lot of care has been taken in the background and anyone who is a fan of RPG and fantasy books will take a liking to this.
- GradgarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found this to be captivating and well written. I'm eagerly awaiting the next chapters. My plan is to come back and write an advanced review when I can explore more of the character development in later chapters (Currently on chapter two). There is a good flow thus far with rich worldbuilding but enough intrigue/mystery about the magical world to crave more.
- InfinityphoenixRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm seriously impressed by the world the author's written so far. Steampunk monsters and cool ancient relics from the very beginning.
Style: Fast paced, descriptive, and easy to read. Only reason I docked half a star is because some paragraphs don't have a line of spacing between them, and some are very long. Breaking them up would make for a smoother read. The bulky paragraphs often occur when the protagonist's thoughts are presented.
Story: The protagonist's past and reason for being in the world are shrouded by mystery, with only a small hint from the prologue that the protagonist will be responsible for some massive disaster somehow... or that's how it seems to be implied. The protagonist wakes up in ancient forest ruins with a system of some kind, and quickly learns to use mana and 'aura'. The story is a unique version of the typical isekai litrpg, with ancient secrets and magical technology hinted at already.
Grammar: A few mistakes when it comes to the tenses, such as using present tense instead of past tense, and sometimes there's an error or two, but the author is quick to make changes when they're pointed out.
Character: Characters so far are very well developed. The first character introduced in the prologue, Pog, is unique and enjoyable to read, so much so that I was slightly disappointed that he wasn't the main character, as his situation is very interesting. Not a lot is known about Lucas yet, but he's cautious, smart and his reactions are realistic.
Overall: Very enjoyable read for me. I love the deep worldbuilding and the steampunk-esque elements shown in the first chapter, with the mechanical monster, as well as the powerful ancient relic in the prologue. It shows an epic world and I can only hope that Lucas grows strong enough to not be pushed around by it. While the horror aspects aren't quite too pronounced yet, I believe they'll be perfectly fitting of the world the protagonist is in. This is worth the read. - KleggtRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think there is something to be said about having an everyman MC. There are many isekai stories where the character is overpowered or has an advantage in the System that find themselves in. Personally I enjoy a character like Lucas, who has to start from the ground up and earn their place in the world.
One thing that helps solidify that fact is the text-box images used. They are very reminiscent of old school rpgs and really add to the flavour and style of the novel. They are consistent and easy to read, and don't conflict with the narrative flow of the document.
The prologue is expertly written and bathes the reader in potential mystery and intrigue - the worldbuilding and scene setting is woven into the dialogue really well and paints a fantastic picture of what may come further in. While Lucas still sinks his teeth into the System there is still plenty opportunity to expand on this stage.
Grammatically I found no issue with the novel. Structure and prose was fine and consistent throughout all that I read, and nothing was jarring or took me out of the narrative.
Overall a great read and it's love to see more of the world presented from the prologue! - NemesaiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wow, what a great beginning.
I love how much thought has gone into building a massive and believable world. Sacred must have a lot planned out and it shows in the writing.
The story flows very nicely and paints a vivid picture in my mind. I can see Pog running down those stairs at break-neck speeds!
I cant wait to hear more about this Lucas and the world. Keep it up Sacred! - StarswornAdminRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When I saw the synopsis for the story, I knew I was in for a treat, and An Unwelcome Stranger has not disappointed!
Style - The author does a great job describing the action scenes, the character's mentality, uses tables appropriately and liberally throughout to really drive home the LitRPG immersion. The action is consistent throughout, and you won't find yourself twiddling your thumbs waiting for something to happen.
Story - What starts as a standard isekai quickly finds its feet and blends unique ideas with some of the staples of the genre. It's been a treat to read, and I find myself looking forward to seeing what's coming around the corner.
Grammar - It's clean, no issues that jump off the page.
Character - Lucas. Poor Lucas. From eating questionable parts of a badger to dealing with giant spiders, there's a blend of humor along with the gravity of his situation. He's a likeable character with a lot of development yet to come.
Overall, An Unwelcome Stranger has been a treat to read. The author has crafted a well thought out world, and has mapped out the direction the story will continu to go. If you're looking for a fun, action-packed LitRPG ride, An Unwelcome Stranger is for you! - YuebeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: So, to start, I just want to say that the writing style of this story is more similar to a traditional book than a web novel, with long, descriptions/thoughts/and action filled paragraphs with no spaces in between them and the longer, word filled sentences takes longer to read but it’s downright worth it; the first chapter is the first impression that we get of these types of paragraphs and it’s a great introduction on what to expect later on.
Style: As I said before, the paragraphs are long and are structured much like a traditional book, making it a long, great read that takes quite a while to finish, leaving you satisfied by the end of the chapter. It’s not the quick and upbeat way of writing most stories here on RR often have, but the fact that the style takes its time to give the readers an atmosphere gives scenes more weight, I assure you that taking your time to read is worth it.
Grammar: Great and has no mistakes while the few “mistakes” that I did see are from the System prompts which I think are intentional since they have a bit of a joking tone to them.
Story: When it comes to the story itself, it is still pretty early and we haven’t really gotten much of anything when it comes to the perspective of Lucas however, the first chapter introduces us to a world with powerful groups of people holding down ancient “relics” that come from some unknown fallen civilization.
It is hinted in the same chapter that the current status quo between these groups are tense, and they’re like a keg that’ll blow up at any second now but so far, the biggest threat that has been shown is an “Enemy” that’ll come out 9000 years into the future- I think that timeline has changed with the arrival of the mc.
Character: And speaking of mc, we… haven’t gotten much about anything from him yet, but the things that we do know is that he’s at least grounded, with him starting off as calm and collected before a piece of his leg got taken, then shortly after that, reacting (rightful - augustherrstromRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I can tell theres a lot of depth to this story and you do a great job making it not too overwhelming for someone relatively new to the genre, like me. This first chapter made me excited to learn more about this world and characters you are creating. Added this to my RSS feed. Thanks alot!
