Sorry... Really? Thrust? Anyway, Danny Kendrick was a down-on-his luck performer who always struggled to find his place. He certainly never wanted to be a hero. He just hoped to earn a living doing what he loved. That all changes when he pisses off the wrong guy and gets sucked into a fantasy realm straight out of a Renaissance Fair.

Getting used to a new world is tough. It’s even tougher when you’re surrounded by axe-wielding barbarians, super hot elf assassins, strange magic, and a relentless System AI that seems as interested in causing trouble as helping... or maybe just wasn't interested in being assigned yet another companion in the first place.Danny must adapt fast, turn on the charm, and learn to accept his given Class if he hopes to master it and survive this dangerous new place. But he has a knack for finding trouble. Gifted what seems like an innocent ancient lute after making a questionable deal with a Hag, Danny becomes the target of mysterious factions who seek to claim its power. It's up to him, Screenie, and his new barbaric friend, Curr, to uncover the truth and become the heroes nobody knew they needed. The humour has been top notch, do yourself a favour and read the first book. After reading the WoT from Sanderson, needed a palate cleanser to get rid of the terrible comedy attempts, and an Unexpected Hero delivered in spades. The conversations are top notch, looking forward to book 2!

Alright, so I have been reading this series like a mad man possessed into chasing a troll (see what I did there). I can confidently say this is perhaps some of the most entertaining fiction I have read in a good long time! Just about every chapter has had me dying, truly great stuff. Whether it is wondering if the characters are going to survive, or if they will simply trudge to the next scene, this story keeps me guessing on what will happen next.
While this story may be a tad silly for some, I personally enjoy the laid back style of the reading. It is well composed, allows for what feels to be natural comedy laced into good writing. I expect many more chuckles and groans as we follow our hopeless bard through the story.

This happens to be the only story I have read that features a main character that chooses a musical profession and so far it has my attention and interest. The main character, Danny, reads as a very down to earth person that has some grand dreams of being a little above mediocre which is part of why this story has caught my attention. As of this post there is 26 chapters so I am not able to speak too much about the story as it can be considered in its infancy, but what I can and will say is that I look forward to reading more about the bard Danny and his unusual adventures with Curr the braug and Screenie. Curr has a good head on his shoulders and takes things seriously/literally with a good dose of humor sprinkled in when there isn’t too much danger in the surroundings. Screenie kind of reminds me of the two old muppets that would watch an episode of the Muppets and make jokes about the choices and actions taken on screen. So I also like Curt and Screenie.

I read it, I enjoyed it. Intricate and detailed, I can’t wait to see where it goes next! Author seems to have a strong grasp on songs and music. I say seems to because mine is terrible and it passes my entertainment check soo…
sassy system is a coin flip depending on the reader

I can accept that I have a sense of humour that others might not like and that others will have a sense of humour I might not like. That probably is what is happening here. Read a chapter or three if you find it funny then keep reading it. If you don't find it funny put a hard stop to it because the humour is the only thing this story has going for it.
The MC is a loser and stupid (what a combo) and the Author takes every chance to remind you of it. He also has no agency. As far as I can tell is yet to make any decision in the entire story. Wait, if he isn't deciding to do anything how does the story progress? Wouldn't he just be existing in a room somewhere, I mean even just leaving the room is a decision right?
    New Quest: Leave the room
Reward: You will have left the room
Failure: You will still be in the room
leave the room already loser we need the plot to progress
"Wow that seems like lazy writing on the Authors part, what is the point of you system?" this reviewer laments "Are you just there to drive the plot by giving Q: plot point R: obvious result of doing Q, mixed with annoying banter with the protagonist?"
Essentially yes! Aren't I funny? I also sometimes give blatant exposition. I also make sure my input is as disruptive to any scene as possible!
"Geeze, that sounds annoying as fuck!" The reviewer accurately concluded.
Anyway the grammar and spelling is good, native speaker level. The prose is the same as other stuff, nothing ground breaking but I mean come on it's Lit-RPG, basic prose is one of its' best features.
I guess the purpose of this review is to point out that it seems this novel has decided to sacrifice its' characters and plotline on the alter of funny. I don't think it is funny so all that is left is a bunch of boring nothingness. However, if you like the humour then you will likely love the novel.
5 stars because despite the fact I hate the novel I don't think my dislike should affect it's performance. Badum dum tst.

Recently came upon this entry in the LitRPG series on Royal Road...
Wasn't sure what to expect with LitRPGs ranging from full bodied Isekai to Virtual Reality...but the music angle was kind of intriguing.  Most of the series enjoys the fighters and spell slingers, but not always the support class.
After reading the first 15 chapters, I still wasn't entirely sure how the Isekai would go. A real word bar brawl...into another person passed out in the fantasy world.  Kind of curious if that'll come into play later especially since a Hag was kind of in the area (ie, souls were swapped for an unknown reason or the author just needed some body & "plot armor " made it happen. ) So I docked it a star with a weak opening.
However, after that opening, the book keeps moving forward and provides some fun moments.  A mix of sarcasm and things I don't often see in a series.
A MC whose sure to win the "first" few objectives, but instead gets his instrument broken & ran off with food capable of giving sickness...and now a few chapters later he gets an improved instrument and a capable partner who just seems to provoke fights to strengthen him.
It'll be interesting to see where the chapters go

This kind of Isekai story almost always starts with a profound sense of grinding gears, but in this case that sense doesn't seem to go away. There is not enough background or color added to allow one to fully suspend disbelief.  What is more, the main character is not sympathetic, being a shallow ass who is so hapless that one starts rooting for the monsters. Perhaps he grows in a way that allows the reader to care. The side character is actually quite good and is the main reason this story is worth a look.

I can’t continue reading this. The world seems interesting and the writing and grammar is good. The comedy however is not my cup of tea. My main issue with this book is the main character. I have never witnessed someone that whines so much. Constantly whining to the system or the bruag who has been generous to him. Don’t get me started on the rats.

It started well but later became a slog—boring.
There is a suspense of disbelief that the protagonist hasn't beaten the S up at the beginning by Curr, but later, it vanishes when they reach the town.
The main issue is the MC, he is uninteresting to follow around. In my humble opinion.
It's a running joke that his INT is low, but it doesn't cover the problems with common sense. 80 IQ character is not that interesting to follow. I know that annoying characters can be done well, but MC isn't done well. It turns into a non-stop whining and self-pity. And that is why I dropped it.
    The system's character is fine.
    The premise is fine.
Worldbuilding feels janky, but I guess that's intentional, and it fits the tone.
It's a story about a musician, but he doesn't play much. Another running joke that gets old very fast is that he plays poorly. MC should be someone who can improvise a tune but he doesn't. His whole personality is Whining, Horny.
Yes, that might be an accurate representation of that type of person, but it doesn't fix the issue of him being uninteresting. I wanted to like the story, but well.

Some books start off rough, but find their stride and ultimately are worth the read.  I am giving up on this one.  We get it, Danny is an idiot douche bro who brings a guitar to house parties and fails to read the room, and the "system" is a petulant tag-a-long against their will who only adds to the overall confusion of this dementia riddled bicker fest.  I feel like I spent the weekend in a trailer park listening to inbred siblings pick each other apart while trying to be clever with one liner pop culture references.  The world building is minimal, as most of the chapters are 80% the MC arguing in his own mind about nonsense and 19% getting mocked by a warrior who is both incredibly dense but also somehow intelligent enough to pull one over on the MC.  The remaining 1% is the bare bones of what could be an entertaining story.
The grammar is great at least, but the rest of it leaves me wanting.
