An Unborn Hero
Community Rating
Description
This is the tale of an epic battle between the embryo of a hero and the egg of a demon lord.
Okay, so perhaps 'epic' is overselling it a bit, given that there are serious mobility issues on both sides of the conflict, but they're trying their best, bless them.
Then perhaps it is the tale of a reincarnated magical girl lover, excited about finally living out her dreams of slaying evil with the powers of love and friendship?
But again, the way a truck-wielding goddess interpreted her request to return her memories immediately after reincarnation rather too literally means that it'll be a long time before the frilly dress fits, and the demons don't seem to want to wait.
Then it's the tale of a pair of new parents growing progressively more confused at the weird happenings around them, particularly when people start receiving involuntary flower-based makeovers? Of an unborn hero speedrunning the plot so efficiently that it'll all be over before she even gets around to being born?
Yes, that one's more accurate.
Also, some numbers go up, with accompanying dings. And one (highly important) number goeswaydown.
This story was born as a complete joke on discord, out of someone complaining about womb arcs and how utterly ridiculous they were. I responded by threatening to write a story that wasentirelywomb arc. And then, because I'm a bit silly sometimes, I did. It's not pure skill grinding, though; I was nice enough to let her havesomeinteraction with the real world. Nevertheless, at time of writing, I seem to be averaging two dings per chapter.

- theSquidopusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As weird as it is to say, this is one of the most realistic stories I've read on RoyalRoad, which makes it absolutely hilarious in a sort of rationalistic way, considering this story is about a magical fetus. I don't know how else to expand on this, but the story's funny, so go read it.
- AzathRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0“For friendship and justice, demon slaying magical girl reviewer-chan, transform!"
It physically hurt me to write that line.
Anyway, I love this story! It’s great fun the whole way through. For a story where the where both the Hero and Demon Lord are literal unborn infants, it is amazing how strong the characters in this story are! The characters in the world feel grounded and behave in sensible and intelligent ways that help them feel like real people, which causes great fun when Mystery and her Magical Girl antics force them to play tropes straight. Despite the challenges the protagonist faces communicating with the rest of the cast, both physical and due to her being Mystery (lol!), her energy and passions make for great reading. I’m also a firm believer in the importance of good endings, and this story has a has a good and satisfying ending.
I’m someone who has probably spent more time on this site looking for which series to read than actually reading. I’m glad I decided to read this one. - BookmuncherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A soul with an obsession with Magical Girls is recruited as a Hero. Informed that she will have to wait 10 years to regain her memories, the Hero demands immediate access to them. Warned by a goddess that this is a Bad Idea, the Hero ignores the warning and the annoyed goddess decides to grant her wish as a form of punishment.
Things do not go as planned for either Hero or Goddess. Expect hilariously rapid leveling from the moment of conception, a very snarky System, magical medieval bureaucracy and government, and much hilarity - Carson6319Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Take out the worst part of the standard womb arc that is to say the lack of interaction with the outside world, add a heavy dose of comedy, a sprinkle of logical/gender bending magic girls and run it through with solid writing and you get this unborn beauty.
It is awesome and I highly recommend it. - JaumeGreenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great humorous story! Worth a read and some laughs. A must read for those needing a brighter story, magical girls' fans, and people tired of the "summoned hero soul into a new baby" trope.
Probably the funniest story I've read in this site.
Become a hero too, and with the powers of love and friendship, vanquish the big great evil. - Kai StormhavenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the British humor in this novel. It reminds me of my favorite author: Terry Pratchett. The characters are likable and well-crafted. The grammar is impeccable and the story is captivating. I liked it so much that I immediately shared it out to my friends, who are always looking for a good story.
- Lion-RyeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Now I'm no good at this review thing but I will try my best!
I verry much enjoyed the plot of the story an unborn lass completely messes with every thing and doesn't even know it.
I found no grammar mistakes but there might be ones I missed.
The characters were well written and made sense. Even the demons stuck in character and did their job.
I am a sucker for leveling systems and this one did not disappoint with skills, sub-skills, and achievements galore. One of the other things I loved was the early story grinding and the absolute nonsense that was the Mystery's tomfoolery. The consequences of her actions where funny and logical. I have been on this site for 2ish years now and by far this is one of my favourite storeys to date up there with chaotic craftsmen worships the cube and beware of chicken.
10/10 good reed -me. - boy123istackenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of the most magical story about love friendship and magical parenting.
Tt would have been fun for the story to have a bit of a bigger earlyer arc in the capital, a bit longer in the farm arc, all the forest arcs slightly longer each getting a little longer in the pregnancy and just scaling the demon lords reserve power higher with more monsters and larger area with more story inbetween.
and there was never the pay off of partial time interferance or summonable wands for all magical girls giving it 2 more sub skills.
But i love the story love the demon lord its reason is amazing!
And i would love for more story i think it would be fun if mystery can switch where her memory is between soul and cat and when she is born the cat keeps the memory and she can grow as a child passing the memory around for the party and still letting the new baby mystery have her own story always wondering why everyone thinks she saved the world like harry potter but more fun!!! - onko342Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel starts out as a simple parody, and achieves that perfectly. Within the bounds of a never ending womb arc, it references and uses multiple tropes in entirely unique manners.
Isekai? By truck, but I bet you’d never see it coming. Magical girls? Yes, and I truly, truly mean yes. 200% yes, in fact. System? You’ll find your usual reliable system, maybe more snarky than reliable.
And also don’t get me started on all the ways you can break the system.
This story is bound to make you laugh every minute of the way, and if you ever stop laughing, you can get your money back.
Style: Absolutely amazing, it was written in such a way that even the most absurd plot developments seem just like the most logical things to happen.
Story: The plot was extremely engaging, the myriad tropes only serving to enhance the experience.
Grammar: I don’t think I found a single grammar mistake.
Character: The characters have incredibly real personalities, and their actions are almost always logical if not purposefully unhinged.
So yeah, definitely read this novel if you’re looking for something different from your usual story. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
Ok, that’s not 200 words yet? Anyways, I binged the whole entire book in just two days, faster than any other book I’ve read before. - polgaraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is cleverly crafted and well written. I love Mystery and how she won't let anything -- from the demon lord, not yet being born, nor common sense -- get in the way of her love of magical girls and their ability to save the world through love and friendship.
