An Endling's Decision (Temporary Hiatus-ish situation for heavy edits of early chapters. Back with new chapters 2024)

Description
Alan Robbins was enjoying a well-earned day of fishing when everything changed.
An Interdimensional being calling itself "The Voice" established a permanent connection between the Multiversal System and planet Earth. System Administration immediately declared all of humanity to be an[Apocalypse]Level pestilence. As punishment, every major System function was banned to humanity for 10 years.
Within the first week house cats were hunting humans for sport.
Under attack from both land and sky, the survivors were forced to make a choice. Go into hiding, or fight back against impossible odds.
Hidden away from the rest of the world in a Time-warped System Dungeon, the Robbins family had but one hope left. That after spending nearly 300 years in a time dilated Dungeon, their descendants would be able to return to the light. This time with 'System' access.
And a hunger to reclaim what had been lost.
Alan Robbins, the 11th of his name, and his younger brother Rexus eagerly count down the remaining hours on their System access timer. They spend the days fishing for Shadow Catfish and trying their best to postpone an all out war with their less-than friendly Goblin neighbors.
When the notification the Robbins family dreamt of for just over 300 years finally arrived, the joy brought with it a distinctly bitter taste.
INITIATING TELEPORTATION TO SYSTEM TUTORIAL. PREPARE FOR SPATIAL TRANSFER IN 3... 2... 1...
This is my first ever attempt at writing.
The first 5 chapters might be a bit slow for some. The MC doesn't get access to the System until chapter 5.
I welcome constructive feedback, and I respond to all comments. (I work mornings, so there might be a delay)
Any questions or advice? I finally made aDiscordaccount!

- TrueSpeakerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Keep up the good work, but I do hope he resolves his anger armor and demonic connection issues and moves humanity unambigusly in a direction of acceptence in the greater System community. Too many authors think a evil connection makes a good tale. It is getting to be a stale plpt device.
- TonyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Or, as the System in this work would say, "Remarkable!" The setup is very long, but the payoff is worth it. This is it LitRPG with a system similar to Primal Hunter and Defiance of the Fall; gaining titles, cultivation, mana control, bloodlines, races, etc. Things take off in the tutorial, and go pretty fast and furious after that.
Style - He doesn't write like Kuznits, but the writing reminds me of him, as it is easy to read and follow, and there isn't any filler or boring parts. Smooth, readable, often humorous. Just fun scenraio to fun scenario.
Story - Great. A lot of action, a lot of power gains, exactly what you want in a LitRPG
Grammar - At first, there were some issues, but since it blew up, I hardly see any issues or typos/errors, and any issues that happen are caught quickly by the million people reading before i get to it. And I just saw there's an editor listed, so that probably has something to do with grammar and typos not being an issue at all.
Characters - There aren't a ton of characters, but the ones there are, are done well, and you get to know them. Like most books, the MC makes some decisions you don't like or wish he didn't, and has some anger issues, but that's pretty standard in LitRPGs. - PizzaPizzaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ok, so, I like framing my reviews in a description, follow by a "Who this is for" and "Who this isn't for format.
To summarize, this story is hilarious, off the rails, and insane. It's a LitRPG, but a LitRPG where the system actively trolls the heck out of the protagonist Alan. The challenges the protagonist encounters are also written in a very tongue-in-cheek presentation, and the author is very self-aware of what this story is. It's the type of work for Sam Raimi fans and it has a very Evil Dead feel to it.
Who this is for: Someone looking for a comical take on the LitRPG genre, without going into outright parody territory. If you like an MC that was done with the world's shit three days ago, Alan is the protagonist for you. The story is riddled with outright black comedy.
Who this isn't for: Someone looking for a LitRPG filled with active drama, typical power fantasy / plot progression, or overpowered characters. Alan is put through a meat grinder, and he's simultaneoeusly laughing about it and done with the system's shenanigans the whole way through. - Haunting_ShadowsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Good Grammar, great world building, good progression, fabulous attention to detail.
Good story for anyone wanting a real S*%& storm for humanity to have come back from.
lots of magic, combat and unique system interactions. . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . - Gian Carlo PeirceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Though the initial exposition may seem rather drawn out, readers will be rewarded eventually! This LitRPG shares numerous resemblances with the likes of Primal Hunter and Defiance of the Fall, featuring a wide array of enthralling elements such as titles, cultivation, mana control, bloodlines, races, and more (At times a little too many things to keep a tab on! But that’s what character sheets are for). The story truly picks up the pace within the tutorial, whisking audiences through an electrifying narrative in a dangerous dungeon.
In terms of style, the author's approach delivers, engaging, accessible, and often witty prose. Each scene seamlessly transitions to the next, offering a delightful progression of exhilarating situations. Of particular note was the prologue which was well done.
The plot itself is very good, brimming with relentless action and power gains that will satisfy any LitRPG aficionado's cravings. As for grammar, I did not see any particular big mistakes that would detract from the overall story.
Character development is another strong suit of this novel. Although the cast is relatively small, each character is thoughtfully crafted and memorable. The protagonist, much like other LitRPG leads, faces challenges and makes decisions that may not always be agreeable (and at times stupid-but let’s face it you probably would do something stupid too). This only adds to the relatability and authenticity of the story.
In short, this LitRPG is a thrilling, immersive, and often humorous journey, boasting a fluid writing style, action-packed plot, good grammar, and a captivating cast of characters (though we don’t really need other perspectives as that just confuses things). - GreenerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Frankly, I'm just a bit tired of the same old litrpg. So when I read this story it was nice to see a new take on it.
The first thing I have to say is that this is really well thought out story. Especially the background where the author really takes time and effort to describe how it all came about. The writer does not rush to plug us in the system on the first page and that adds certain depth to the story that I really enjoy.
I also enjoyed the writing style and the speed at which it develops. I’m certainly wanting to give this story a try and follow it to see what's next for the human race, so I'm hoping that the author will continue to post chapters. - LanceroRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I'm not a big LitRPG guy but this story provides really excellent in-universe justfication for the existence of RPG mechanics. It's smartly written and the decsciption is very evocative. I also like the fact the opening is from the perspective of pretty everyday fellow going fishing (the fishing is well described, I suspect the author fishes :)) who is tangentially related to somebody with inside knowledge. That reminds of Alas, Babylon, and it is always interesting to see an author resist the temptation to populate their work entirely with experts.
- Shadow 482Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Overall: This story delivers on the familiar litrpg tropes, providing a sense of comfort and enjoyment. Despite some issues, it has the potential to captivate readers and keep them engaged for more. Just hoping the author won't abandon it prematurely.
Story: The story offers a good balance of action and loot acquisition, although certain parts could benefit from a slightly faster pace, particularly for audio listeners. The beginning resonates with personal memories, adding a nostalgic touch. However, there are instances where character choices and repetitive narrative tools feel outside the bounds of reason.
Style: The writing style is simple yet effective, infused with humor and heartwarming moments among the characters. The limited cast of characters is a refreshing change, making it easy to understand their goals and motivations. The focus on the main character, Alan, enhances the reading experience.
Grammar: While there are areas that would benefit from tighter editing, they do not significantly hinder the reading flow. The issues encountered are similar to those that the reviewer acknowledges needing to address in their own work.
Character: The characters in the story have a charm that keeps readers rooting for them. Their interactions and humorous exchanges are a highlight. It's commendable that the author manages to maintain a manageable number of characters, making it easy to identify and follow their individual journeys. - Standing bearRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0On chapter 24 and i am already really enjoying the story. It has its issues. But dang i really am looking forward to more. Its one of those kinds of stories that just keeps you reading and wanting more and more
Just hope the author doesn't drop the story any time soon. - DraconicchimneysweepRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Making this review on chapter 100
This is a good fic! I enjoy the premise, characters, and writing. Numbers go up, I get serotonin, everyone is happy. The big issue I have, and why the story didn’t get 4 stars, is how the MC’s growth outside ‘normal system boundaries’ and how it interacts with the system are written. Quite frequently, the MC does something stupid and it works out for him, as any good MC does. However, so much of what happens when he does these things is vaguely explained or described, the MC doesn’t know what’s happening, except instinctual knowledge of extremely specific things. But when the explosions fade and the MC looks at the notifications, the system had things under control, but it still doesn’t tell the MC or reader what just happened. So much is just glossed over, explained with vague terms and then just left, or just ignored.
spoilers ahead:
as an example, it’s been 40 chapters since Alan lost mana and had it replaced with Celestial Energy. Almost nothing has been discovered or explained about Celestial Energy. The entire event with the Scumbag in chapter 97 was confusing and didn’t really answer much. What is Fire Essence? Why did sucking mana out of a mana crystal while putting it in at the same time make a wisp of primordial fire? Why did that make his core level up?
spoilers end
Everything to do with cultivation really is just poorly explained. I understand this is because System denizens haven’t had contact with a living cultivator in NaN years, but clearly the System itself wants to help Alan out of curiosity and knows somewhat what is going on. It’s just frustrating as a reader.
I don’t want anyone reading this to think it’s a bad story though. Overall? Pretty good! The lacking information and confusion concerning Cultivation is the biggest issue.
