- Dominick RRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A well written and executed beginning that offers insights while still leaving tantalizing questions. Powerful action right off the bat with a fleshed out System and tutorial that doesn't wait. Super excited to see where this goes, gives vibes similar to DotF. Little to no grammar mistakes and good pacing
- Tenijjay lRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Your book truly stands out with a well-structured plot, excellent pacing, and a sense of anticipation that draws readers in. The story flows smoothly, with every chapter leaving me eager to discover what comes next. I appreciate how you’re carefully revealing details about the universe of the book in a way that feels natural rather than forced. This gradual world-building is both intriguing and immersive, allowing readers to form a clear mental image of the setting without overwhelming them with too much information at once.
It’s evident that you have a clear vision for this universe and that you’ve put thought into developing a richly detailed backdrop that enhances the main storyline. Your characters also seem well-fleshed-out, with personalities and motivations that add depth to the plot. The interactions between characters feel genuine, making it easy for readers to invest emotionally in their journeys and challenges.
I’m excited to see how you continue to develop these elements. There’s a lot of potential here, and I can tell you’re crafting something special. I look forward to witnessing how the plot unfolds and how the characters grow and adapt as they navigate this universe you've so thoughtfully built. Keep up the great work! - ShoRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Style
I've not got much to say about the style of the story, nothing really stands out as wrong (other than some technical issues touched on below) and it was mostly relatively easy to read.
Rating: 4.5/5
Grammar
Generally good overall but not without issues. There are sentences that are just missing words which causes you to have to try to fill them in yourself and others which stop part way through and start up again as new sentences.
Commas are also misused. Mostly in the sense that there just aren't enough of them but also that sometimes when they are used, they're placed in the wrong place e.g. "No, idea..." instead of "No idea,...".
There are also cases of the wrong words being used - their/there, to/too etc.
Rating: 3/5
Have I been overly harsh with that rating? Maybe. Most/if not all of the grammar/technical issues I've noticed would/should have been fixed by proofreading the chapters and/or running them through something like Grammarly though. The issues weren't in every chapter but they were frequent enough and basic enough that I've dropped 2 full stars.
Story
Nothing groundbreaking here but nothing terrible either. A relatively standard start to a system apocalypse litrpg - system arrives and people gain stats, skills etc and have to go through a tutorial. Given how widespread these things are in stories in this genre, it shouldn't come as a surprise to see them here and you can't really hold it against anyone for using the same common building blocks that everyone else is using (for that very reason - everyone else is using them).
My main complaint here is with the ending. To me, the ending felt abrupt (even with the advanced notice that it was ending). Compared to other similar stories, this would likely just be the end of an arc (and possibly not even that) rather than the end of the book itself.
(Purely my opinion:) It almost feels like the author just didn't to continue writing this anymore and tried to wrap things up. There are still several things - AcerbicRoyal Road★★★ 3.0So, MC is not a Mary Sue - that's a plus.
He is level-headed, mostly, and hardworking - so its not that his OP-ness is entirely undeserved, yet he is clearly a Chosen One, with extreme talent towards Tao. Which is... boring to me. I mean, I dunno. It just feels like he is obviously set up for success by the author. I guess I like underdog stories more.
The writing is average. Battle scenes are... meh. Side characters are undeveloped, though they don't immediately fold when seeing MC so there's a chance of interesting personalities. Psychological part of "everyone I knew is dead and the world is ruined and I must fight life-and-death battles to stay afloat every day" are touched upon - which is better than most other similar novels - but aren't fully investigated.
All in all, I feel like its too "samey" from chapter to chapter, and despite MC having a stupid tradition of fighting until he faints in the literal last moment I don't ever feel the stakes are tangible. - GraveltonRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Lots of missing words, incorrect words, broken punctuation, etc. that make me suspect it's being written with some kind of voice-to-text that keeps getting the words wrong or missing them altogether. The weird combination of wrong and missing words makes some sentences extremely confusing.
That said, the story is decent, but the characters other than the MC are just paper-thin, no depth at all. The MC himself is ... ok, buuuuut it's one of those stories where the MC just goes from fight to fight, doesn't even really interact with the world or people around him beyond the most minimal to move the story along (i.e. speaking with tutorial guides).
It has potential, even good potential, but it's not quite there yet.
