Summary

————————————————————————————————————-

In a world where everyone can use magic, where treasure hunters, alchemists, and warlocks are common professions, and where mage duels are the most popular form of entertainment,Kiel is a "non-mage" - a person who doesn't have the aptitude to use magic on regular basis - until he meets Elaru - a spell breaker of mysterious origin, wielder of the fabled 'Aethernea of Sight' - eyes that can see magic, who claims she can give him the power to become the greatest mage world of Halnea has ever seen.

Coerced into binding his soul to hers, Kiel finds himself pulled into a web of secrets, where one wrong step could end in his untimely demise.

Who, or what is Elaru Wayvin really? What is her relation to the ruling 15 noble mage families? What is the source of The Ink - a mysterious plague spreading through the continent? What is the Aetherneal bond between them and what has it turned them into? What is the truth behind gods and divine magic? Why has the third race of Halnea - the Ascended, mysteriously disappeared, and what is the connection between the remaining two races?

In the search for truth, Kiel and Elaru enroll at the most prestigious University of Magic. Yet, between awkward social events, falling in love, thrilling competitions, blood curling battles, irritating peers, and damnable love rivals, there is little time for studying.

And as if avoiding sinister plots from all sides wasn't difficult enough, their new detestable mentor takes them on a voyage into the uncharted forbidden zone filled with unspeakable secrets, ancient riddles, man-eating monsters, and deadly traps.

A quest that just might end up changing the fate of the entire world.

"Aethernea is my absolute favorite read on wattpad, I love it as much as I love Harry Potter and The Mortal Instruments. You have such an amazing way to make the words flow and unbelievable descriptions. Unique characters and a great story line. All the small clues and mystery in the humor and fantasy just makes the book perfect in my opinion. I read all chapters in two days! Less than 48 hours even! I'm REALLY looking forward to the next update, the world of Aethernea is so deep and well thought out, it's beautiful and magical. God I can't believe how creative you are, so many small details with so many families and stories everywhere. Purely fantastical, I admire you."

"I love love love Aethernea so much! It is amazing how you created this new world with different creatures, magics, looks, illnesses, and evil! I was blown away by your explanation of the Mana pools and how to weave magic! Simply stunning really! You are one of my favorite authors and Wattpad and I am so glad I stumbled upon Aethernea because it is worth all of my time reading!"

"I absolutely am loving Aethernea so far. I am certain you belong in the ranks among J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, Suzane Collinings, and many more great and wonderful authors. You opened up a whole new world for me, which only a few great authors have accomplished. While it's true I am pulled into each and every book, few are able to capture me to the point of inescapability. Though, somehow, you have managed this feat. I thank you for this and more! You are a wonderful author and can't wait for more to come!"

"WOW! just caught Aethernea in gravity tales! Just when I was getting tired of most xianxia novels this appears and completely blows my mind!I really like the depth and the humorous touch you give the characters and it seems you have the storyline well thought out since you are always hinting about things in the past and the future. It has been such an enjoyable experience that I couldn't stop reading, finishing it in just one day and laughing my way through most of the episodes. But what keeps me so excited for what's coming is the magic system and the professions of the world you are creating. The magic mechanics have such a huge potential! They are simple but at the same time they open so many possibilities. Even though we still only understand the basics of transmutation and augmentation, I expect them to enable fights where there is need of quick thinking and skill, and not just brainless overpower of every opponent. In a way this makes me reminiscent about The Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson, which are one of my favorite series ever. The thing that sets Mistborn apart from any other series is that the mechanics are so well thought out that they could be used to create a super cool triple A video game and I cannot help but hope Aethernea reaches the same level or even surpass it. I really think it has that potential. Really hope this series gets the attention it deserves. As for me, Thursdays and Sundays just got a whole more exciting! =)"

"Your writing is fantastic and riveting, the chapters and character flow so smooth, and it captivates the reader with the many twist and turns that tricks one mind into thinking this is about to happen, when suddenly the exact opposite happens. You truly are in inspirational writer with a brilliant mind that can see and put words into chapters and into this one truly awesome book. Thank you!"

-AshleyStaarfrom Wattpad

"I loved this story, such detailed description and accurate words, both Kiel and Elaru completely caught my attention, your writing style is just beautiful and the plot is astounding and it's just the first episode! This kind of fantasy stories are my favourite, it has a lot of magic in it, rivalry and sense of humour."

Good art, good grammar, good plot and good character development.
Wait... the word 'Good' won't do justice. It's excellent. I enjoy reading it.

    Review as of Ch. 44.
    BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front):
The characters are really well crafted and the story keeps you speculating.
Aethernea is written in a really fluid manner with some author notes every now and then interrupting the story flow.
The story has been beautifully crafted in terms of events and how they affect the protagonists.
There are very few grammar and spelling mistakes (and I mean one every five chapters few).
The characters I would say are Aethernea's strongest suit.  The MCs are a strong pretty-boy and a tomboy-ish, free spirited girl. They are two sides of the same coin and they work well together despite their differences.
    TLDR:
    Read the top :P

This story has really good grammar, i haven't tried to find any errors but nothing jumped at me while reading. Good use of the vocabulary and sentence structure. Characters are actually developed and are not ``bland.'' Will develop my review when this web-novel has reacher 30 chapters but I can already say i am going to like it.
10/10 would recommend to anyone who likes fantasy genre.

Like others said it has good grammar, good plot and good character development.
So i will go into the specifics that made me love this work.
1 Plot well tought in advance: since the begining the author leaves little clues that seen in hindsight give the story excelent consistency. She also develops side stories that hint to major plots and help build a complex world full of mysteries.I just cant stand when after the main story that the author thought runs out, bigger and "badder" (yes i know thats not really a word) always pop up an thye readers wonder "how come no one has ever herd of them?". Well, that doens't seem to be a problem here.
2 Magic system: many in an attempt to build well thought magic systems end up writing indecipherable walls of text, or obscure concepts that are never properly explained. The magic system developed by Cloe D. Frost is not only well thought, but carefully and clearly explained, but at the same time, it doesn't feel like you are studying something. This magic system end up making the story much richer, alowing you to understand in detail what is going on in fights, what the characters are doing and understand the possiblities it allows.
3 Story pacing: it doesn't rush, but at the same time there is always something important happening so you never feel like the story is beeing draged just to publish more chapters (like some DBZ episodes). Lots of times in other web novels, the authors jump from arc to arc because they either run out of ideas to make it interesting or they don't know how to fully use the posibilities they have.
4 Regarding character development: this might be the point this story brings the most controversy. As i infer by the name, the author is female wich brings a different social dynamics perspective of the characters wich i find reminiscing of Harry Potter and quite refreshing. Some may say that the male MC is too cold untill meeting the female MC to be real or that the famale MC can be a little too manipulative,

    TL;DR:
Everyone has their own tastes, and Aethernea might not be for everyone. Especially if you are looking for typical MCs seen in web novels nowadays. However, if you are looking for a long-term commitment, a story that will pull you into an amazing world and stay with you for a long while - Aethernea is it.
But, that being said, I suggest you ignore this review and every other review and just give it a try. There is a reason why Aethernea has won several rewards and is a very popular story on Gravity Tales, TopWebFiction and Wattpad. The story doesn’t have any technical issues. Whether you will enjoy it or not depends solely on you and your own personal tastes.
    Long version:
Let's first look at some of the problems mentioned by other reviewers (Note, might contain spoilers. If you are worried about spoilers skip the commentary on the problems and read the actual review below that):
    1) "Elaru is a Mary Sue"
A Mary Sue is an idealized and seemingly perfect fictional character, a young or low-rank person who saves the day through unrealistic abilities.
Elaru Wayvin is no way perfect. In fact, she is filled with many flaws. Whether it is in the way she acts, her background, or her abilities.
I don't know whether you have been paying attention, but from the prologue it has been hinted that Elaru has several serious flaws. By my deductions,
    1) she is unable to use long range magic.
    2) she "can't" use magical artifacts because they break in her vicinity
    3) her soul is unstable which most likely impacts her capabilities or/and life expectancy
    4) she has to constantly control her own mana to avoid hurting people around herself, which puts a lot of strain on her body, and most likely shortens her life span
    5) she can't enchant things even though she knows how to do it, probably related to the first point
Granted, she is very smart, has a great memory, and is an amazing mage. She is also quite knowledgeable in several areas, namely in Tracking, Spell Crafting, Breaking, Ac

Review as of chapter 109 (read it on GT. more chapters there)
I put this on hold around chapter 60 because I wasn't enjoying it as much as I'd like. But after binge reading to 109 recently, I decided to give the author credit where it's due.
The author is an excellent author, and I can see her talent in writing and story making. I love the world and the side characters she made. There was a genuine time when I actually laughed because of the side characters due to how convincing they were. They felt real.
The problems brought up in the old review.
Kiel improved during the 109 chapters. I have started to like him more (I never really hated Kiel.  I actually liked him)... I'm not really too worried about Kiel's development because his is the main character, and this is a Xianxia, combined that with a talented author. In Xianxia, the MC will develop and become great. Judging by how good she makes the side characters, I have trust that she will do Kiel right. In fact, if it weren't for Elaru, I'd like Kiel even more. However, Kiel + Elaru does make the story more dynamic, interesting, and fresh. This is what I like about their relationship.
Elaru on the other hand, is a bit more bearable now. It'll take a lot though for her to make up the shit she's done to Kiel especially in the earlier chapters. Like manipulating and using him, act like a bitch to him (though it has lessened... a bit), and leave him in the dark ALL THE TIME to important shit that regards him 100%. I just hope she makes up for it. However, the author makes it seem as though all those things see had done were NOT BAD. This is one of the major issues I have in this story. I’m worried about this.
On a more positive note about Elaru, I do enjoy her sometimes. It is not always unhappy face with her all the time. She can be enjoyable. There were even times when I liked her. I can actually see Elaru becoming one of the most likable later on in the story (to those who don’t like her now).
    The story. Yes, the s

I am very much enjoying this story. Please continue the banter in the plot line. Will be soon begging for more chapters.

Cloe's story is well written and is fun. Though there are times in which it feels that she repeats herself too much. Especially when it comes to the description of the characters. There's no need to remind us what the color of Elaru's eyes are every chapter.
Also, the Exam arc sort of dragged on that I found myself start to lose interest two thirds of the way in. It's still a fun book, though!

(As of chapter 77) I do enjoy the story so far, I also have to agree that kiel is a princess. I loved him at the start, but it's getting to the point of feminizing him to the point of him may as well being a woman. The only OTHER problem I find with the story so far, is you take the ENTIRE chapter to explain stuff not ESSENTIAL to the story, thus "Zero" progress is made to the actual plot. So far only what.. 6-7? days have actually passed and 77 chapters just filled with(granted highly detailed) fillers. Every now and then it's good to do, maybe every 3 chapters... But OVER half of the chapter is explaining something to the reader, and again ZERO plot progress.
Again story score would be much HIGHER if there was actual progress to the plot. Instead of explaining the spell used, in every single chapter, how about adding the character's view of what is actually happening, instead of outright just showing what is going on? It's bad mainly because you use character's POV, But use 3rd person to explain every little detail of what's going on, obsessivly. You don't even Break the POV seperately to explain things, like you do to switch characters.
I cannot stop reading this story, but it is getting a bit annoying, I almost want to start scrolling down a bit further to skip half the chapters, due to again, Zero plot progress.
(Updated as of 121) Seriously it's still the same, But I still Love and Hate it. I Changed The style to 2 stars because the author Still Doesn't change the way things are explained. It breakes the ENTIRE FLOW of the story. When you have a characters POV then spend 1/3 of a chapter explaining in excruciatingly annoying detail the way something works. Only to go back to that Characters POV right away, without explaining so.
I don't Dislike the characters, I really don't. But The way Kiel talks with his "thaughts" to himself is like he's a wuss. The Author really tried to make him feel smooth,(at the start)but fails as kiel FEELS everything like a woman. I

Excluding the characters, the story is great when it's not using cliche XianXia phrases. Unfortunately, the characters drag the story down.
First up we have Kiel the wuss. He's so busy tripping over himself while longing for Elaru the bitch that he can't act like the "smart" person the author claims him to be. Kiel is supposed to be intelligent but you will rarely see him act as such. Instead, his role is to be "random person a" who exclaims over how amazed he is at everything Elaru does. It's like reading 100 chapters of Death March through the PoV of some side character. I don't mind reading about a more effeminate male main character but effeminate and hopelessly helpless are two different things.
Then we have Elaru the bitch. Like someone else said she is a complete Mary Sue who is almost always manipulating and using Kiel. I don't usually mind asshole/bitch characters. However, I hate when the author tries to make excuses for her actions or tries to make her look better than she is. It's hard to take a self-insert edgy mary sue/gary stu seriously.
It is impossible to remotely like either of these two characters. Unfortunately, as they are the main characters we have to watch things from their perspective. This makes what I think would have been a really enjoyable story much less so. I really want to like this story but Kiel and Elaru make it impossible. The strange thing is how the further apart they are from each other, the more likeable they become.
Also, why does it take so many chapters simply to take entrance exams? You could fill a 500+ page book with all the words it has taken them to try to get accepted by the school. I like long stories but this is more like dragging things out unnecessarily. The story may as well be named The Entrance Exams considering how almost all of the story so far is about trying to get into the school. To make things worse, they haven't been accepted despite how much time the story has spent on the exams.
If you want to read a
