Description
Humanity achieved dominion over the galaxy long ago. Once that was accomplished, they turned their ingenuity inwards. With their prowess over biological engineering, they transformed themselves into deific beings now called the Gene Tyrants. For centuries, the Gene Tyrants terrorized the galaxy, designing and abusing their genetically engineered servants and serfs as their whims took them. No tyranny can last forever, though, and the Gene Tyrants were eventually overthrown. The rebels discovered a strange light of the mind called Aether, which gave them the strange and fantastical powers they needed to eradicate their creators. Once that was done, however, that by no means meant peace. In the thousand years since, the face of the galaxy has changed. The most powerful human civilization is called the Supremacy, the homeland of 'might makes right'. In the Supremacy, a crime committed by the strong is no crime at all. With their military strength and mastery of Aether, the Supremacy has spread across the galaxy -- with the other powers able to do little but stall their advance. This struggle has developed into a cold war, and that cold war has frozen over for years now. Dragan Hadrien, a low-level administrator in the Supremacy, cares nothing for any of this. Dragan's primary concern is getting himself a promotion and taking it easy for the rest of his days. When a mysterious prisoner is brought aboard his ship, he thinks he has found the means to do just that. How naive of him.Aetheral Spaceis a science-fantasy web serial based around Dragan's adventures throughout the galaxy and the mysterious power of Aether he must develop to survive. - SugarcaneSoldierRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story lives up to everything it promises and more! Aetheral Space's rich lore and worldbuilding are intriguing, and they are only outshone by the depth of its characters and the sheer creativity of its fight scenes. Although it did take me a few chapters to get hooked, I'm glad I have kept listening and reading as the story has only gotten better and better over the years.Anyone looking for a compelling, punchy, and creative sci-fi story have to read Aetheral Space!

- askeriRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Criiiiiminally underrated. Now, I admit, this isn't like a genius, genre-defining work of scintillating poetry with delightful social commentary. But in its own way I'd say it's genre-defining in its own way. Just thinking how much leeway I give countless xinxia webnovels makes me shudder because this story actually has a lot of lovely, unique worldbuilding. In other stories we might rave because the MC is a young master with a slight variation (a young lady! or a short young master! a skinny young master!), but in this story there's a fair amount of likeable characters on all sides. Also- don't think I'm saying that this story is good because it's better than xinxia. It's good enough to be a stand-alone novel series. There's a ton of potential for continued world-building in a way that doesn't make the story feel incoherent. The magic systems of each character grows alongside them, reflecting crucial ways of viewing the world rather than their abilities defining who they are. Powers are also used very creatively and villans are genuinely daunting. Even healing the inevitable wounds isn't gauranteed. The author churns out likeable characters with sympathetic worldviews like a machine and isn't afraid to maim and sacrifice them for the purpose of the story. And the story is only beginning. The rebellion is beginning. Hop along for the ride!
- GentledragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Technically speaking there's nothing for me to criticise. I didn't notice any grammar errors, words flow nicely, dialogue is great and the work generally reads very well. With the main plot still very much in the beginning stages, the major strength here is the characters - all of them are brimming with life and personality, unique manners of speaking and even side characters are memorable. The author manages tonal shifts from funny wisecracking to serious life and death moments masterfully. The pacing is very good, never found myself bored or tempted to skim.
All in all, an excellent work I'd recommend to people of all tastes. Quality is far above the usual standards of royalroad in every way. - Gino SmythRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A somewhat unambitious intellectual gets caught up in the various plots of political idiots and freedom fighters.Bringing back fond memories ofThe Merchants of Venus.
- IshtarAletheiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This got me out of my reading slump. In one word it is fun. The fights are cerebral (the main character especially, but others don't come far behind), the powers and their uses creative, the writing glimmeringly clever so frequently it makes me jealous. Characters have a lot of personality, as do the myriad settings our protagonists stumble through on their adventure.
The scifi aspects are soft as butter (this bothers me slightly because I'm a nerd and a pedant, YMMV) and some transitions between arcs feel contrived. But it's a story that's unapologetically cool and fun and with heart and I can't get enough of it. - MTeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A story that keeps you hooked with interesting characters, growth of said characters and one of the best power systems I've seen. A power system that allows for a variety of unique and different powers that still follows that basic rules of the power system. This series also tackles backstories/flashbacks and simultaneous events really well, opting to switch between different perspectives rather than focusing entire chapters and even arcs on them. This helps to keep the pace of the events taking place fixed in the readers minds. Overall, a real 10 outta 10 experience, would recommend to any space faring sci-fi enjoyers.
- MissDirectionRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Been following for years, just now reviewing. A vast, worlds-spanning plot with a cast that I have grown to love, write fanfic about, and want to yell at the author about. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys space operas and the like. The community is fantastic as well, with a few stories set in the world and an encouragement to create your own.
- NoirDolphinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been hooked for years! Truly the finest application of Stockholm Syndrome in fiction. Great characters, excellent world building, and a very creative magic/ power system. I could praise this series for hours.Trying my hardest to get my friends hooked on this because I need to talk to more people about this. Keep up the good work Tan!
- RivRav_q12Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has a great setting, with just enough world building before it feels like an exposition. So far has it me hooked and i cant wait to see where it goes. Writing style and layout make it easy to read, following when a character perspective change happens is ok but could be made clearer.
Some of the side characters seem a bit one dimensional but overall enjoy there interactions with the main cast. Can honestly say I was never bored whilst reading it. One of the other reviews called it a Space Anime and I cant stop seeing that now.
