Adopted By Humans

Description
"Humans are the only known intelligent species to actively create 'Found Families' in the form of parents, children, siblings, and more. If a human starts spending more time with you and initiating physical contact, they have probably adopted you." These were the words that caught my ears when attending the most prestigious university in my quadrant as a minor in alien studies. My intrigue led me to major in the study of humans, a new race to emerge into the galactic political scene, and one that had already in a mere fifty years, captured the imaginations of numerous races. So when the chance came to go to Earth to study them up close, to live with a human host family known to our professor, I took it. Inside the pages of these journals, you will find the record of my observations and experiences with human beings. More than that, you will find how what began as a curiosity that would make for an easy career in a narrow field, changed my life forever, in all the very best of ways. That's what happens I suppose, when you're adopted by humans.

- BooktheDMRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read this on HFY and seeing it here wanted to leave a review to show some love to the author and encourage others to pick it up.
Genuinely enthralling, draws you in and I'm pretty sure every reader who gives it a chance will adopt Bailey, and be adopted in turn. - Cloudy_AcutifoliaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Look I’ll bite. I’m not big on writing reviews but damn, you got me!
The story is well written, the first book ends cleanly and segues well into the second, there isn't any major or consistent grammar issues, oh blah blah blah. If you wanted someone to do a quality check for you just read the damn story, I damn near guarantee you will not be disappointed.
The whole point of this review is really just for me to gush, so let’s get to it.
This novel? Book? Bah, this Fictional Auto-Biography is one of the best god damn things I’ve read on this website. And that there is one of the reasons why.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I haven’t read a single autobiography here, let alone a fiction one. That’s the big part of the story that reminds me of some of the earliest sci fi books. Like a Asimov book or a, god I dunno, but it really seems to do something different.
Besides that though it writes an autobiography good! The present Bailey, as in the one who “writes” the one we read intervenes throughout the story to clarify or make comments on this that are happening throughout the series of events, some of which are left out, and sometimes even purposefully left out by Bailey! There’s a couple of times, notably with Baileyball™, where how events evolved further into future are mentioned. The level of forethought that goes into writing a god damn autobiography about someone else, let alone one in a fictional world, is astounding to me.
Then there’s that! Bailey is an alien. As an autobiography we get to see how Bailey perceives this whole new world he’s introduced into, not through his eyes or the eyes of another but through how he as a character would attempt to describe these events and concepts to another. It’s such an interesting experience you don’t really see anywhere else.
Anyways there you go. I could probably blab a whole lot more, about the characters or the aliens or the… everything. Really, this just reminds me of an old sci fi story from the perspective of - CzartoriusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Don’t really put these reviews out much at all but these volumes have been some of the most entertaining reads I’ve experienced in a while and am looking forward to more. So this definitely has my recommendation so give it a shot I’m sadly already caught up to the most recent post so my binging has been halted.
- PainfullTearsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very interesting and captivating story sprinkled with heavier themes and funny parts.
Good character designs with a nice variety of personalities.
Though it was sometimes not immediately apparent who was talking, i am well aware that it was written as "Bailey's" scientific papers publification, which enhances the storytelling in my opinion.
Thanks for providing a story that is well worth the time spent reading it. - PervySageChuckRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a wholesome, feel-good tale about an alien coming to earth to live with a family of humans as part of his education for a fifty year period of study. A well written story that will grab your attention and keep it hostage until the end of the volume, and have you begging for the next volume to be written!
