Description

Mark Careed dreamed of being a hero ever since he was 8 years old. Of fighting monsters outside the city walls, of going anywhere he wanted instead of only where it was safe, of either killing kaijus himself or being up there in the thick of it, with the real heroes. Mark is almost 18 now, close to taking the real Tutorial and Awakening his Power, and achieving that dream. But his hopes and plans fell through when the False Tutorial estimated his future Power as a brawny. A simply stronger human. This should have come as no surprise. 90% of humans on Earth Awaken as brawnies. Mark doesn’t want to be a basic brawny. He wants to be something more. He needs to do something big to change his fate. Something drastic. Something like seeking help from an archmage, a true Hero of Humanity. If you like Ar’Kendrithyst, my other story, you might like Adamant Blood. Adamant Blood is a story of exploration, slice of life, kaijus, magic, other worlds, trauma, superheroes, adventure, andgrowth. Book 1 finished!

I love the world building, the progression, the new and interesting magic system and the way you write.

I don't usually write reviews but this needed saying.
This is a very, very good view on grieving, survivors guilt and PTSD.
I've always been impressed by this story. But this is more than impressive. This is actually useful advice wrapped up in a compelling character coming to grips with the horror he experienced.
I'm looking forward to how this tempers him going forward.

There is an in-depth, unique magic system, that so far we've only seen partly revealed.
Everybody lives on a world tilting towards apocalypse, which adds some interest.
The main character's indecision about his future paths is relatable and realistic.
Several characters are forced into clear compromises for the good of humanity.
The main character and several others have an altruistic bent, which I always like to see.
There's an element of strict social hierarchy and social dominance and submission for its own sake, which seems partly endorsed by the author and MC as a necessary part of society, which I do not like to see. We'll see how much this negatively affects the story going forward. I certainly do not want to read much more of it.
The introductory storyline seems to be coming to a conclusion soon. This is always a difficult point in the story: is there enough plot and mystery to keep it interesting after the MC passes his first major challenge and awakens to his powers? Many stories fail after this point. I don't see much foreshadowing of an interesting plotline post-awakening, but the worldbuilding is solid so we'll see. Perhaps the awakening itself goes horribly wrong; that might sustain some interest.

Hmmmm, how to accurately communicate whether a story is good......If you like deep and rich world building, complex characters, true understanding in how power affects and changes people, you will like this.I dont really review often , but this is an amazing story that is developing. The characters feel real , the story is riveting, grammar is perfect no issues, style is unique and classic Arc's.Not sure what else to add, so will go into a short dive on communication through writing since I think the above is enough. If you like it you will like it, if you dont move on.Personally I have always found it difficult to communicate with people, thoughts are so dependant on context and personal experience. I think humans are so alike with wanting the same things, but trust and understanding is very hard to achieve.blah blah blah words are hard letters are easy , why must we , proceed as we pleaseblah blah blah words are hard letters are easy , why must we , proceed as we pleaseblah blah blah words are hard letters are easy , why must we , proceed as we pleaseblah blah blah words are hard letters are easy , why must we , proceed as we pleaseblah blah blah words are hard letters are easy , why must we , proceed as we pleaseblah blah blah words are hard letters are easy , why must we , proceed as we pleaseblah blah blah words are hard letters are easy , why must we , proceed as we please

Easily one of my favorite stories on RR. Really enjoy the setting and the character development. Occasional minor grammar and spelling errors that would only bother a grammer nazi (like me), but are quite typical of today's spell checkers. Just saw the 200 word requirement. Great plot. Lots of buildup into an ever bigger loss, into an even bigger reveal as the story keeps marching. The MC rolls with the punches, and everything continually spirals on from there. The universe is massive and as of the most recent chapter really hasn't stopped growing. The MC and characters he meets are equally interesting / insane / funny / charming / depressing / convoluted. You can't really get a grasp of what might happen next, you can only say "okay, that happened," and keep reading with a smile or crushed heart.Huge amount of lore and depth. Characters are funny and what they get into is insane. You really sympathize with the main character as he is exposed to more and more. A one of one story that I eagerly follow the updates of.

Early Review. Will come back in a hundred chapters or something and add more
Grammar: Flawless. Its Arcs. No issue.
Style: The style so far is slow and purposeful. It's slice of life in pacing but that life is jam packed with interesting lore. It's ominous. It's expansive. It's all sorts of adjectives none of which are boring.
Part of it is the details. The little things that ground the series and make the world feel alive. Drone packages arrive with little ice packets and children draw pictures in thanks at the healing church.
Based on the authors previous series the style will shift into something action packed for a bit then settle down into a more relaxed slice of life for a bit before chucking us back into crazy action and magic.
Character: Solid. Every character introduced feels fleshed out no matter how much screentime they've gotten. The interactions feel genuine and human. The childhood friend going to the church of war and murder because she wants to fight monsters. The stifling way his mom tries to suppress the MC's call to adventure.
Characters and character interactions make or break slice of life content and so far this is definitely a strong point of the series.
Story: So far the story is pretty close to the synopsis. The main character is not the chosen one. He's not special. He's basically baseline human. But he wants more. He wants to be a hero. He doesn't want to be trapped in the city like cattle he wants to explore the world. He wants to protect humanity. He's such a cinnamon bun when it comes to his views and desires and its hard to begrudge him his wishes. If I were stuck in his situation I too would want to escape it. Its relatable and endearing.
Because he's not rich he can't just go to expensive wizard training. And thats where he gets proactive. He reaches out. He tries a few different things. And then he ends on the solution this series is named after.
And here's the thing. Right now he's definitely in a favoured position. A position he's

To the review complaining it didn't have game elementsit's not a LitRPG, most stories don't have have game elements and the ones that do are tagged litRPG. And it's not a Xianxia either?? There's no cultivation. I can't believe I'm updating my review to say DON'T READ THIS IF YOU'RE EXPECTING GAME ELEMENTS it's not a LitRPG or Xianxia novel. It's a Superhero story set in a Post Apocalyptic earth. Like it's tagged that.🍿 Incredible.Update: Looking forward to city building. 100 more chapters in and I'm adding that the pacing is a bit uneven, but overall the world feels real and the drama interesting. Mark continues to grow, but it's not all fast action. There's a lot of team building and personal growth stuff. The world is really interesting and I like the moral ambiguity, how pragmatism makes it so even demons are toleratedReview of the first 18 chapters:The first half dozen chapters were low conflict slice of life that left me wondering "is this it?" but there were enough hints of intrigue and bigger stakes to keep me going and now it's in a satisfyingly messed up place.Like yes there's wholesome hugbox stuff but look that demon is doing [reacted] there's corpses and it's going to get worse if the MC doesn't choose to helpOverall I'm enjoying the family warmth and the power to save the world but at what cost drama. The main character is a sweet kid and I like him (he feels real and hopeful) and can't wait to see his growth, already we see him getting wiserIt's clear and well written. The world feels rich, with lore and setting details that aren't ever dumped on you but kind of sneak in without noticing through dialogue and action. For example he draws another picture to tack on the wall of the hospital, and it was such a great scene because we learn how healing works here, there's a sense of history (wow look at all those other pictures kids drew) and it moves the plot forward as he considers working for that healing god.The grammar is great, the characters are memor

Adamant blood is a great story, with a very rich world and compelling characters.I would highly recommend reading this story if you have enjoyed super supportive or worm, although you should know it's much more positive in tone than worm, just equivalent in quality. No worries about consistency either, the authors other fiction was completed with minimal interruptions and maintained a consistent standard of care for the book the whole time.

Picked up Arcs' work a few years ago when they were working on Ar'Kendrithyst, (which if you haven't read it, I would recommend doing so) and absolutely fell in love with their writing style. For those who haven't climbed the mountain of material which is Arcs' stories, they go for SLOW burns, it's not uncommon for Arcs to have a small character growth portion take MONTHS of in world time, and dozens if not a few dozens worth of chapters. But God, does Arcs know how to write a good story... If you let them bring you on a journey, your PROMISED a journey to remember.
