The story is told to us through the cold and collected recollections of our protagonist but this matter-of-fact style only make the emoathy we feel for our lead characters all the more impressive.
A rather grim story all-in-all, with almost all of our main characters committing many heinous acts. Despite this the story is strangely compelling and manages to make us root for some (by modern standards) awful, awful people.
Fair warning: unlike the vast majority of RR fiction, there's no fantasy here. It's a straight historical fiction and seems fairly well researched from what I can tell.
    I would firmly recommend

Its always nice to read a story like this. This is the first historical fiction that I have seen on this website and it delivers really well. The premise of the story reminds me a lot of the game 'Kingdom Come Deliverance' in where the main character slowly rises through the ranks of medieval society. The main character of Acolyte makes mistakes a lot but learns from them throughout his life and the struggle does make it fun to read. The story is recounted from the perspective of a much older version of himself so the story can seem like a dry recital at times. Other than that I'm really enjoying reading this so far.

So far the story has been intriguing. It is very grim in a sense but addictive and hard to stop following the band of with hunters. The mc is still growing up and has a questionable sense of morality with a youthful obliviousness that ahines through in a corrupt and rough environment.
