Description
Julia is a practical person. All she wanted was a home and family to call her own, a small piece of the world she could say was hers.Instead of arriving home one evening, Julia finds herself in the Abyss. Now she's not only far from home, she's trapped inside a cursed body. The curse may have caught her, but she certainly wouldn't let it or anyone else tell her how she has to live. It's not a hero that you have to watch out for, it's the practical person when you're in the way of their freedom. Hell is a place for the organised torment of the guilty in life while the Abyss is its sociopathic disorganised cousin. There’s darkness in the Abyss, and darkness within her that might draw it in. But she'll need to risk its strength, for to get out, she'll need to become strong enough to descend to its deepest reaches. Yet it's in those places that the most dangerous secrets lie in wait. Image by Comfreak from Pixabay This is my first story, and a work in progress. Feel free to point out any errors, and I will gladly fix them. The ending and the major plot points are all planned out.Julia's story is more of a slow burn, and she won't always be in trouble. There will be breathers between the action. Though the story is about Julia, she is not the only force in play. Her actions will affect others, and the actions of others will affect her as well. The MC is unique even given the somewhat common transformed into a demon trope, and its refreshing that she's realistically asexual given the situation she's found herself dumped in. Oh and she's not dumb...
Other characters are fleshed out, all have their own motivations and goals. So far no cardboard villains to be found.
No complaints about the writing, minor grammar issues here and there but nothing too detracting.
One thing that did confuse the hell out of me initially was the inner monologue - I had colour overriden, so I couldnt tell what was going on since everything was black. Maybe not relying purely on colour for this would be a good idea. Try italics, hyphenation or something else like hashing the start of the sentence perhaps.
One thing that would be nice is a bit more detail on each of the planes that have been visited. - emphasisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It doesn't get boring, plot points feel natural as breathing, full of comedy, love, hate, all that what makes for a good story. I like the depth of characters, their struggles and emontion feel real. The LitRPG system is thought out and doesn't make the main characters stand out or invincible. Simply love it! :-)
- RockbreakerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have had this on my to be read list for a while now, finally got around to it, read 452 chapters and was annoyed when I reached the last posted chapter….even after all those chapters I still want more…
the isekaied straight into horror is interesting, and the growth , development, and trauma of the MCU make it interesting, Yes MC gets to grow powerfull, but it has consequences on mental health. Done very well. Worth being one of very few RR stories on my favorites list - Nyx KatalixiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I find myself enjoying the read greatly. I personally love female MCs as I find it much more relatable and here our heroine feels "real" to me considering her circumstances. She is not perfect, nor a villain however she is adaptable and able to be influenced. A fun read that I want more of.
- BlenheimRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great character and adversaries even when they are annoying, it is for a specific purpose. Level of description of the locations and monsters is insanely good.
I am in awe of the author's ability to deal with the insanity of high level character development. I my experience by level 20 a D&D character becomes unmanageable. The author has gone beyond the level cap and provided interesting characters and adversaries and keeping things under control. - KarnhellRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is by far my favorite story on Royal Road. The story starts off a bit slow with the mc being enslaved but it picks up very quickly. The MC is abit of a mess but she feels real and is slowly improving. The MC is on the long path to power with all the battles and self improvement one would expect the MC to go through on her way to the top power.
- AalanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you have ever played the D&D tabletop campaign Planescape, its various video games, or read any of the associated novels and enjoyed them, you will find this story beyond outstanding! It starts with your average Aussie shiela getting cursed and being sent to the Abyssal Fields after dying and it just goes from there... Join the main character as she travels the Planes and learns more about herself, her past, and reality itself.
The story is well written with the perfect style for this genre. While there have been a few minor issues with spelling, grammar, and sentence/paragraph structure, they are easily overlooked unless you are a true grammar troll like myself. Also, the author is very responsive in getting anything pointed out fixed.
The entire storyline is about character development, and yes, there is plenty of action, of all kinds. From swords and spells to songs and souls, you find everything from the Material Planes as well as the Celestial, Infernal, the Abyssal as well as everything in between. We have magic, from its basest forms to the Divine. Do you like Psionics? Those are here too… Come take a read, you will not be disappointed in the least. - NicebagdadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been following this one for a while, It has been one of the stories I consistently look forwards to the most with the chapter updates so I thought i'd finally write a review for it.
This is a story of epic proportions following the main character through an insanely complex universe, with complex characters and extremely interesting world building, I find myself looking forwards to the new wonderous things introduced in this story every week for a reason.
I really enjoy this story immensly, however the one caveat I could say is that I have found myself immensly confused many times by recurring characters. Characters that were introduced ages ago and I just forgot about keep popping up and this can sometimes put me off my flow when reading it. However in many cases I find myself just reading the story and still enjoying it regardless however I feel like this story would benefit from some kind of character list as especially due to the spread out release schedule I do end up getting confused occasionally.
Personally i'm also not a massive fan of the title as I did initially skip this story a few times due to the title, so if it were to be released to print I feel it would be important to rename the story, however thats just my opinion. - FuujinSamaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Stories in this genre tend to follow cookie cutter patterns that are more and more of the same. Abyssal Road Trip is one of a select few of these stories that stands out on its own merits. The start has a bunch of hiccups. The system is dense and at times the story seems to treat it as a secondary focus. The writing also takes a while to get in the groove. All this to say that this is a novel that takes a while to truly hit its stride but it's more than worthwhile to stick with it.The chapters are long and juicy. The Grammar is transparent. I was not trying to copy-edit the work and no glaring error jumped at me so I give it the five stars it deserves. Granted I'm not the best at spotting errors when a story draws me in and this story sure as hell did draw me in.J is an amazing character. When the story starts we take her as your usual Isekai protagonist. She's a virgin and a computer nerd. Her fiancé cheated on her with her best friend. Is this gender bent Primal Hunter? Yet the story feed drips as details about who Julia is and who she wants to become and slowly we realize that Julia isnota blank slate Light Novel protagonist. No, we simply see her as a blank slate because of how much she represses herself and sees her own gains as unimportant relative to others.Accompanying J we have a large ensemble cast of amazing characters. At times the size of the cast seems a bit excessive and it's easy to forget who is who. However, the balance is very much in favor of following J's story with only brief arcs covering other POVs.As much as I love the story, I do have some criticisms although they're mostly about the system itself (Am should have a talk with Gideon =3) . My biggest criticism is that Powers, Skills and Classes seem slightly undifferentiated. A rarity system or maybe even a color scheme would be so helpful at making the system more engaging. Such distinction clearly exists. Harmony and Protean are clearly not the same as some other powers. Merges and upgrades
- ssalogelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall:
Great story if you want a progression fantasy, with easily graspable rules, with a little bit of System Rules cheesing for fun and profits, detailed characters and well balanced story elements.
Style:
Abyssal Road Trip is a great mix of DnD style rules, myths usage and plain good storytelling.
Story:
The plot has great narrative impetus that make sense and bring you along, with classical begginings and a quick but earned power gain. We can see that there's a power ceiling, but MC is not near it yet. The plot goes quick and hard, but still lets you breathe.
Grammar:
No flagrant problems so far, and if you wait a couple days after publication, the most egregious errors and typos are corrected.
Style:
Good writing style, with just enough uniqueness to be interesting and entertaining, but few enough that it doesn't become purple prose.
Character score:
This story's less strong point. We could probably do with a little bit more character exploration, especially of the side characters. We are quite deeply embedded in the MC psyche.
I strongly recommend this story for any who like Dungeon and Dragon lore, but wants it seen in a non-TTRPG style story.
