- Michael ParkerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story so far (Chapter 13). This story has great potential and can't wait to see where it goes. Give it a shot and read till chapter 3-5 to see if it is the right fit for you.
(Cultivation, Slow Burn, Fleshed-out World) - Chilling_MonkRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5It’s solid.
It’s a more slowpaced xianxia up to this point, not a detriment tho in my opinion.
Too many stories here start at max speed plotprogression and therein lose a lot of the ability to flesh out their characters and world .
Reincarnated mc starts kinda crippled/seriously injured after PreCarnationMc saved his friend, the Barons Daughter. In an untypical fashion for this kind of genre he is not discarded after and actually treated rather well, even gaining the opportunity to learn Magic.
And while he is trying to find a cure for his physical crippling and has to deal with the lasting psychological effects of escaping the the hellish Oblivion of afterlife War seems to be brewing on the horizon.
A very pleaseant read up to this point with lot of potential for future development.
Regarding other Reviews, MC is scarred from his experiences in the afterlife and has to deal with those issues. But he is very much not a complete wimp or obnoxiously weak at all.
One of the worse reviewers didn’t even read the novel as she/he mention themselves.
Try it out, it’s a slowburner but a good one. - ClausiousRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Beautifully written story with great world building and character development so far.
Question for author are his fears just of the void or returning to the void or being used not quite so sure if it's one fear or multiple fears that the MC has. - GarrdorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I don't think there's anything about this story that justifies a one or half star review, it's well written and well visualized. It certainly has a unique portrayal of a man who's spent an interminable amount of time in a void before being reborn, but who's to say how accurate it is? It certainly makes more sense than the "whelp glad I'm out of that eternal prison of loneliness and despair, time to start kicking ass" archetype.
Granted, the main character has a slow road to recovery as he recognizes and overcomes the trauma the afterlife ingrained in him. It's very annoying at times, but also so skillfully depicted it's hard to form any compelling arguments for how to do it better.
Part of the problem is that this site has gotten us all used to bite sized and episodic chapters, whereas this story is much closer to a long form novel series than most. The first 300 pages have very little power creep for the MC, instead focusing on emotional development and world building. It's nice, it's good character work, but that character has some serious issues (and again, can be super annoying). If you want a hack and slash Dao of Luck cultivation story, look elsewhere. Personally, it just makes me more invested when the protagonist actually struggles to find an unorthodox path to power, and I can't just assume MacGuffins are gonna fall out of the sky.
Quick synopsis, dude struggles to escape an afterlife or two before being reincarnated on a world where magicians cultivate. He's got some issues preventing an easy road to strength, and his low station forces him to grab whichever educational opportunities come his way. He's made some compromises along the way and is still trying to figure out how to succeed (or even what he wants to accomplish).
Style is a nebulous criterion to judge, I like the world and the way it's explained. Story is going alright, plot seems to be ticking along, MC has very little agency due to his weakness but is figuring out who all the players in the ga - MajorcatsRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Almost 30 days, 12 chapters. Not sure why this hasn't gotten a review yet. Maybe people think it is some horror story because of the synopsis and title? I know I did and just about passed it by.
This is a well written story that I have enjoyed. The first few chapters did a good job setting up some motivation for the MC. Dialog is well written. Few editing issues. - RobinsRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Character are interesting and believable and we're getting a good view into the wider world without any exposition dumps in sight.
As some have said its a relativly slow starting off point but thats not a problem so far. Pressuming this isn't going to be a really short story its good to give the characters some time to develope before the suddenly find they are the bestest ever which I've seen happen in chapter 1 of these stories more than I care to mention. - BadGenuisRoyal Road★★★ 2.5I don't know if this is a side effect of dying once but the MC displays high degree of paranioa. He literally fear death, a concept , a law of nature, instead of the possible causes. That desperation born from fear delivers him in the jaws of the lions. And the fact the he did not display characteristics of amalgamation of souls.
Makes me feel that it betrayed my expectations. A powerful Abomination of souls that broke the passage of souls became what seems to be a wild animal back in the corner with its own fear.
I find the constant fear and hopelessness unhealthy for my readings. so yeah.
