Description

Winner of the 2024 Stray Cat Strut Fanfiction contest in the Ongoing category!

In the not-so-glamorous outskirts of New Savannah, Seraphine Bloodfallen - part-time joytoy and full-time cynic - finds herself drafted into madness. When a particularly bad day at work ends in an alien invasion, Seraphine becomes a Samurai; Someone empowered by a benevolent alien race with the strength to oppose the alien invaders.

Follow Seraphine as she navigates her new life with more power and problems than she ever wanted. As it turns out, battling alien invaders with a ragtag band of misfit Samurai might just be the craziest job she’s ever had - and possibly the most fun. Who knew the apocalypse could be such a blast?

This is a SCS fanfiction. Knowing SCS might not be required, but highly recommended! Give the birb some love!

A very nice addition to the Stray Cat Strut universe
If you like Stray Cat Strut, killing aliens, or dystopian cyberpunk, check it out (and SCS if you haven't already)
MC is a fun take on Joytoys
Seems I need more words, padding padding padding and yet more padding, lol

Seraphine has obviously not had an easy time of life. Despite any issues she may have from growing up, she grabs life by the horns and makes it work for her. Any situation she gets into she is able to find a solution to get her and her friends out of it.
Being a hive mind is a fascinating take on the SCS world, and not something that is easily written. Despite this difficulty, it does not strike me as done poorly and I can easily see why Seraphine has the issues she does when trying to adapt to her new existence.
This story brings to light an often overlooked aspect of any city, much less a cyber-punk style city, and it does so in a way that doesn't focus on that aspect any more than necessary. It brings to light that this is a fact of life and is not something to be ashamed of and not something that you can just ignore.
All the characters have their own personalities and desires without seeming like they are there as a token character. The relationships between the members of the MC team and other people around them seem like something that could actually happen. The situations that the MC team get into feel organic and not forced just to further a plot.
    Definitely worth a read!!

I've read or are following most of the SCS Fan Fictions, and A JoyToy's Journey is a guilty pleasure. The world building by Ravensdager (The author of Stray Cat Strut) is followed faithfully so everything feels the same.
This is a dark, adult themed story that deals with the sex Industry, drug and alcohol abuse, slavery, gang violence, death, and loss. Yet, it tries to find some light, hope, and redemption for all involved.
The Main Character and friends were sex workers in the Red Light, referred to as JoyToys (Whores) who, during an incursion of deadly Aliens, are uplifted to become Vanguards (Samurai). Samurai are the warriors who battle these aliens to save the earth. However, they are still who they were before: Broken souls who need to rise to what the world needs. The MC, Seraphine, deals with this in an open, honest way that is refreshing but sometimes hard to read. The author does a decent job with this.
Style is mostly first person. Grammar is mostly good. Characters are the focus and the author does a very good job here.
There is still lots of action like with the other SCS stories, so most of the story moves quickly. Overall, if you can handle the Dark aspects, I highly recommend this.

This is a wonderful look at the SCS universe from a completely different angle. The main character starts in the absolute lowest stratum of megacity citizens, and has to grow, gather allies, and try to come grips with her life, while trying to keep the city from falling.
    A must read!

The author has made an interesting story based on world building from stay cat strut's universe. This universe is basically cyberpunk 2077 with an alien invasion of plant-based space invaders. Some people on the planet are turned into "Samurai," which are given a system with infinite possibilities for growth based on points they earn from killing the invaders.
MC is given powers related to controlling a hivemind of alien creatures that she can use to create an army to fight them. Pros, cons, and recommendations below:
    Pros
    - Interesting concept and world building
    - Author decided on a personality for their MC and is sticking to it rather than going with a MC with no background with a shifting personality
    - Author is taking time to actually think through the mentality and attitudes of MC and her love interests and doesn't appear to be turning them into foils of the MC
    Cons
    - On a very unserious note, my inner critic wants to say that I've never seen sex referenced so much in a story that has no sex, lol. Up until recently, it's referenced in almost every chapter, but the only action that occurred was an off-screen interaction with a random side char. You fixed this recently, but still were not very detailed (almost a fade to black situation). I'm not sure if this is due to site rules or not, but it was so peculiar that this content was so sparse while reading this considering how much it's referenced throughout this story.
    - More seriously, I think the author is going to have a hard time with scaling going forward. The MC and her... (harem?)... are scaling really fast and, unless the alien threat gets much more dangerous really quickly, I don't see what doesn't cause MC and her spouse to not make the invaders and every other samurai on the planet look weak as heck soon. A world conquering alien swarm and infinite robot army are really hard to scale down once it's out of the box.
    - MC comes off as very unconfident at times and unsure of herself, while her background w
