- Touch_the_MoonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a really fun read. I love the Cinnamon Bun series that this is a fanfic of, but I think this author does an excellent job of writing a story that stands well on its own while still paying homage to CB in little ways. It's also wonderful to see a main character who is transitioned. Not enough of the T in the LGBTQ fiction sections when it comes to fun fantasy stories.
- Tejas KhandwekarRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The writing style is solid, but the frequent sexual content in the novel tends to overshadow the plot. While I acknowledge that some readers may enjoy it, I personally wanted to explore how characters different from "brockly bunch" would navigate the system with powers. Despite glimpses of that aspect, the excessive sexual content, including gender changes, felt overwhelming.
- TeaGeekRoyal Road★★★ 3.0First off, I have a personal bias against fanfictions, so me enjoying this is outside the norm.
This does a good job bringing an enjoyable character into the world of Dirt from the RavensDagger series Cinnamon Bun. The author does a fairly good job making it feel like the same world and the interactions with many characters tracks well to the source material. The story is enjoyable and leaves me wanting to progress onward in spite of some issues I have. The characters are sort of set up as basic archetypes, for the most part, but I do really like the protagonist for a large chunk of what is written and it is a nice bit of trans representation. I also applaud the author for setting this in a region far from the events of Cinnamon Bun, allowing the characters and story to stand on their own while occupying the same world.
My biggest issue with this is spelling and grammar. Some words are repeatedly misspelled or the wrong word is used and the author frequently uses “there” in place of “their.” It was also a bit annoying when the spelling for the name of a race in the source material was consistently spelled differently. There is also a little issue in the formatting of the skills/character sheet that could be fixed.
There are also several instances of inconsistency. Sometimes it is character behavior shifts, but internal consistency of details sometimes flips. I was really caught off guard when our main character’s listed age flipped from 34 to 29 and back over a few chapters. In my he vein of characterization drift or inconsistency, another case really threw me off when very shortly after the MC has a discussion with a new romantic interest stating an intent to be monogamous and setting aside worries about interest in others… which is really quickly abandoned without supporting narrative until later (felt like a chunk of a chapter might have been outlined but was not included).
On the relationship side of things, they are actually pretty nice, for the most part. Both
