- Santhosh746Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a story about the adventures of a human reborn as a string ray.
I like the premise of the story and its grammar is nice, with no overly complicated sentences or words and a very easy-to-understand language.
The characters and their dialogue are vibrant and fun to read.
Overall it's a very enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. - ShirimeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a bit like "So I'm a Spider So What", but it manages to carve its own identity for itself. Every character seems to have their own unique personality, which makes it a joy to follow along with. The dynamic between the main character and the System has a very "Smart Secretary, Dumb Boss" vibe that's fun to read. Even though I only picked this up for a review swap, I'm happy to have found a new story to follow along with. I'll be keeping up with it for sure!
- Damien HansonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly it reminds me of Spore, which was such a great game. I'd love to see and feel more of the environment, but there is a strong feel of evolution rpg that I really compels me to keep reading. I also like how that stats are definitely in play with how the MC acts and thinks. So often stories treat these stats as something independent of the MC, yet (as an example) intelligence should certainly be reflected in the thought processes and actions of the MC. It's definitely worth reading for anyone who likes evo!
- skilly7717Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story itself is pretty interesting. Tim is reborn as a stingray as he tries to survive the cruel oceanic world. It’s a fun read with tons of humor and great dialogue. I didn’t notice any grammar mistakes, so that’s a bonus. The style itself is pretty good. There’s a good amount of dialogue between the system and Tim, and the writing itself is easy to read. I do have a few complaints, like how the system speaks to Tim. I prefer the system to not be interactive, rather than speak full-on conversations with Tim. Just a personal preference. Another thing is that Tim is a dumb MC. Some of the decisions he made ticked me off and weren’t logical at all. Other than that, I enjoyed reading this. If you’re deciding what to do, I say give it a try.
- NickthulhuRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5As title says, this is a fun, humorous story. The MC is reborn as a stingray with a System. He's less then a month old and in a fairly safe reef. Of course he immediately runs into trouble. He survives on some skill, a lot of luck, and no intelligence. Honestly, he starts out really smart, compared to your average fish. And dumb as toast compared to a human, and that's an insult to toast. In the end though, this is part of the charm of this story. The MC knows he used to be human, but has almost no memories. He's trying to survive in a cruel ocean world, but is barely smart enough to do that. He has the help of the system though. Who is kind of the other MC in the story.
Unlike a lot of litrpg/system stories, the system itself is one of the main characters. She helps and guides the MC and is really in charge of his build. There's hints that she has plans for the MC, though for the most part they seem to align with the MCs plans, granted he doesn't have many right now. It's obvious she's trying to remain professional, but there are cracks where it seems her "true personality" is coming though. At times it seems she views the MC as almost a servant, but seems to be genuinely warming up to him. We'll see what the future holds.
If I had any complaints it's that in general none of this is super original. We've seen versions of this story before. It's not a bad thing, but it's not anything super new. Also, the first few chapters are a little rough. They quickly get better though. I think a little bit of polish and the early chapters will be fine. My final complaint isn't a big one, but man is the MC dumb sometimes. I know it's part of the story, but wow he's dumb. It's mostly in a charming way, but sometimes I want to strangle him. Luckily, he's been upgrading his intelligence. He's already gotten smarter and it's helped. He'll likely to continue to get smarter as the story progresses. So this is a temporary problem. I'm choosing to view him a - SKNit3Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This was quite the fun read. I appreciate the fact that the author used a completely unique concept for the story. Definitely something I haven't really seen before.
The MC is very fun to follow and although he is not the sharpest tool in the shed, he still manages to survive. But then again, the MC is a stingray, so that's to be expected. However, what he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for it with a little skill and a lot of luck. The pacing is balanced, and the dialogue is not complicated in any way.
The MC also has a truly unique personality. Another interesting part is that the System also has a unique personality of its (Or maybe her?) own. The grammar is also very easy to read and understand.
The story is definitely worth reading and I will highly recommend it. - KinokawaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I'm really enjoying the story, but it's honestly difficult to get past the Tim-brain writing. So many wierd exclamation points (almost every sentence, so not having one is jarring) that it feels like the narrator is panic screaming in my mind. That part sucks, honestly, but I gri and bear it for where this story might go.
What? 200 word minimum review?
How much does Royal Road expect me to gush over an author? F' that. I said what I said. I like the story, but the style is difficult to read.
This isn't college. I shouldn't need to write twelve pages to say so.
I'm about to Lorem Ipsum this shit.
"What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
Why do we use it?
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like)." - BucefaloProductionRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0the writing is very enjoyable and flows very well, Tim's concept is intriguing and also the theme of survival is very clever and is rendered very well, not coming across as cliché. I am curious where the story will go further, for the first few chapters I must say that I did not notice any flaws or gross grammatical errors, I recommend the read!
- AlejandroKingRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story starts with a lot of promise but quickly gets overwhelmed with plot point after plot point in quick succession. The MC has reduced Intelligence scores so the rambling is ok at the beginning but soon even the narrating of the author turns rambling. There are way too many words to describe every single thought, action and reaction. All mysteries and goals are resolved within a few chapters so there is never a build-up and a satisfactory conclusion. (This would make a great tween LitRPG.)
I was excited to discover the sea but the MC mostly stays in one area and almost all the action takes place in that one area in the sea. Which is mind-boggling when thinking about the whole potential of the width and depth of the sea.
There are a lot of upgrades branches, mostly in text format, without a Stat screen and come so quick and varied that you never feel that complete thrill of watching the MC get more powerful or skilled. There is some new magic introduced every few chapters but there isn't any depth to them though it might be coming in future chapters.
I wanted to like this so bad and I might come back to it later, but this is where it's at now. - William OhRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Conceptually, I love this story. The sea setting and character descriptions can be glorious. It started off incredibly strong.
However, it is hard to overcome the inconsistent logic/character drivers, the weird word choices, the peculiar conversations, and the inconsistent system implementations. I hope this serves as a stepping stone to the author refining their ability. Consistency, from a more abstract stand point, would help the story progress naturally.
