Description

"If you think death is the worst thing that can happen to you in this place, then you definitely have not been paying much attention."

A magical academy in a magical dimension, hidden from the eyes and ears of the human world. It should've been the magical adventure of a lifetime, but, to Uriel Alvarez, a young street urchin who was abducted from the streets and forced into its dark and looming walls, the San Jose Academy of the Dark Arts is a waking nightmare from which there is no escape.

The school is brutal, callous, and grim. Death lingers in the hallways, the walls and the floor are splattered with blood, and one might find an organ or a limb or two hanging from the ceiling. Its students and apprentices are encouraged to kill each other by any means to prove who is stronger.

Uriel, however, finds himself uniquely suited to the harsh and savage life within the Shadow Academy. Dark and sinister plots, ancient and bloody feuds, vicious student politics, and cutthroat betrayals await him.

Under the tutelage of the Dark Lords and Ladies, who rule the Academy, Uriel Alvarez must learn to use the eldritch powers that lie dormant within himself, before he becomes another forgotten corpse. With a rare and powerful ability, Uriel has a chance to rise far above his peers, provided that he survives for long enough.

This story has plenty of dark themes and gritty scenes, and while I think it handles them well, this story will not appeal to everyone. The setting is vaguely historic and quite brutal. The protagonist has some compatability with magic, which is the only reason he survives the first chapter. Definately excited for more, amazing start!

Amazingly written with amazing description, in a Harry Potter esque like academy, Except its headmaster is Voldemort on steroids.
Characters emotions and thoughts convey to the reader in a very natural flowy sort of way.
If youre looking for a horror-magic infused story with unique spells and mysteries look no further.

This book is so well crafted in many ways. It checks out in all of the boxes that need checked, grammar done beautifully, characters portrayed well, plot neber stalls and delves right into it from the beginning.
The world is quite dark, gritty and brutal. The Dark Mages are cruel, cruel people who the mc must learn from so prepare for some gore and dark stuff
The magic seems to be a mix of Harry Potter and Lovecraft in a way which I love so much.
This book deserves much more attention than it gets and I recommend fully

This is incredibly well-written. There's just the right amount of detail that makes me want to vomit and just enough is omited that my own imagination makes it even more disgusting. Seriously, there was a scene where they were forced to watch as Baba Yaga (slavic witch lady?) cooks a child in front of them. The child tries to escape several times but Baba Yaga just pushes them back into the boiling cauldron.
It was so well-written that I wanted to vomit.
I also think emotions were handled very well, considering how brutal this time period was (WW2 is no joke). The MC breaking down in the shower was a nice touch.
There was also a scene where the MC is forced to cut out a guy's liver.
    Nasty stuff.
Overall 5/5 I want to read more.

It's good, there is little of it. I'm sad and pained for that I only get four chaps a month. I'm disappointed for that realistically with this realise schedule i will never see the end of MC's journey. For everybody that is interested in reading it... I would say- it's good.
Maybe, 50 years later I'll get to see it fully. This will be a good day.

Honestly, the writing alone is good enough for traditional publishing, because I've seen some good stories that don't come close to this.
Anyway, the style is amazing, a perfect fit for the story's tone. It really sets you up for the grimdarkness of it; the writing style gives you this super bleak atmosphere that's just perfect.
I hardly see any grammar mistakes to be honest. The few that are present are probably just typos, which do happen here and there especially without an editor.
The story itself is amazing! There's this air of mystery that just sucks you into the story - the Dark Lords, in particular, seem more like gods than just wizards. We haven't seen them fight, but we get glimpses of what they're capable of and it's ridiculous. The MC has plenty of potential, but he's nowhere near the top of foodchain just yet. I can't wait to read more about Uriel's journey into this Sith Academy Concentration Camp Hogwarts!
The characters are fairly realistic, especially the MC, whose reactions to everything are what would probably expect from an actual child. The liver scene, though freakishly graphic and brutal, was on point!
Overal, 5/5! I want to read more!

I'd give this story 6 stars if I could, but hey. A few spelling issues aside, the story is terrifically well written, actually damn-near professional level at that (the only thing that's stopping it are the few spelling errors that occur from time to time, but those mistakes are so few and so irrelevant that they hardly jar my reading).
Anyway, the story itself is incredibly well done. You could tell that the author has plans within plans within plans for how the story will unfold. The characters behave like real people and the world is horrifying, but in a good way. I don't wanna live in this world, but it's fun to read about. Overall, 10/10 and I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys dark stories and magical academy settings.
A word of warning though: this book gets really dark really fast.

This book is good , I love the dark gritty themes and how the author handles them. The story shows extreme promise ,the characters are interesting and the world is inviting... To read about ofcourse not to live in.
I haven't noticed any grammar mistakes that have spoiled the immersion for me . I'm just waiting to see where the story takes us.

I am not one for blood and gore personally, but my love of magic mechanisms and general mythos drives me to try lots of things repeatedly. This scratched several of those itches to keep me going. I love all things eldritch and lovecraftian and this definitely hits that from a magic perspective.
i will be honest, what kept me in this story was the magic lore. It was fascinating to see magic in a scale of creation. It is incredibly rare to see stories of magic that attempts on the scale of creation in these terms. The idea of going to other planets/universes to drain the life out of all just empower themselves more was fascinating. Typically these are only touched in eastern cultivation type novels at best.
I like the characters, there are flaws, to much coherence for a child in the circumstances, but not much worse than any other book that tries to show such a story from this point of view. Better than some even, thinking about the series that babies could be fully intelligent depending on how they got magic.
Overall, it is fun and intriguing, it hooked me to read the whole thing in one sitting, and look for more. Unfortunately, it is in hiatus but I did reach out via Patreon to see.

Our MC, Uriel, is an orphan street urchin in the Philippines around WW2, in an alternate version of our world where magic is real. Along with other children who won't be missed from all over the world, he is tested for magic and, upon being found suitable (not dying), he is brought to the Dark Mage Academy of San Jose. Soon after, he discovers what his innate talent is -- fleshcrafting, an extraordinarily powerful form of magic. The MC has a chance to be the strongest... if he can survive long enough.
The story is just getting started, and the MC hasn't formally started any classes yet, but I like the general setup. The premise is that the school is extremely cut throat. Students die all the time. I'm not sure why that's desirable to the dark mages in positions of power, but I have a feeling we'll find out.
There's a lot of gruesomeness and gore, and I'd definitely classify what I've read as grimdark.
The writing is clean and easy to read. There are a few stylistic things that could be cleaned up from time to time, but nothing serious. I didn't notice any typos.
It's definitely worth giving a shot.
