Description

It’s been a year and a half since Team Plasma attacked the Pokémon League, and Ranger Lena Winifred is finally starting to feel like things are going back to normal. Sure, Unova's in a power struggle, the International Police keeps strong-arming the Ranger Union out of incidents, and Unova’s savior Hilbert disappeared without a trace, but the region’s healing and Lena’s finally starting to move on from her own repressed trauma. But when Lena gets a Quest to investigate a missing child in Accumula Town, she didn’t think she’d be adding discovering extinct Pokémon, managing international politics, and protecting a child who seems to know too much to her job description. But duty calls, and Lena is not going to fail again. ~~~ A Self-Insert Isekai from the perspective of someone who isn’t the isekai, between the events of the Pokémon B/W and Pokémon B2/W2. One of the best fanfics. It's nice to see the point of view of someone that doesn't know everything about the games and such, since the npc don't know for exemple location of legendaries. Another thing that's nice is the story diverges a bit from the stadard 8 gym style. Its definitly worth a read, you won't regret it.

I am feeling severe chapter withdrawal.
So far, this story has leaned on being intrigue heavy, but it's still populated with good battle scenes too if you're a fight junkie. William is by this point clearly a [spoilers], and it sounds like there's an ill wind approaching with the plans of Team Plasma.
Count in the authorities only causing problems, a fun cast of pokemon with their own issues, and William being a grouchy juvenile delinquent with hacker tendencies (N.B. nice use of unix/linux commands for those scenes) and you're sure to enjoy it.
...I don't think I've seen anyone go into the implications of having no aura, so that's both interesting and also kinda concerning. Here's to hoping there's a solution for that one.

Tl;dr This is a slow, character focused story, whose main draw is the unconventional, outside point of view on an isekai character. The story is yet to get going, but what I read so far is very polished.
Since as of chapter 3, William—the isekai-d kid around who the plot supposedly revolves around—is yet to actually participate in the going-ons, I can't really rate the story so far, but it gets a tentative 4.5/5.
    So, first off: style
Serious. There isn't really much going on here, it's not a witty read, it's the kind, where you read for the characters and the story.
    Story:
The story up to this point has been spent on establishing the characters, the world, the conflict, the plot hasn't really kicked off yet. But it did a good job of getting me invested in things to come.
    Characters:
I like it. Lena and her team has a solid backstory. They feel real. Good enough to be the main character. Because William sure as hell isn't. Up until chapter 2, he has collectively said around 5 lines, which he only doubled In chapter 3, where he gets properly introduced. A lot of side-characters are more fleshed out than him. But it will probably change. He has just been set aside until the rest of the story got to him.
The introduction was a little thin, which could be an artistic choice?
    Grammar:
It's fine. As I said, this story feels very polished, so there aren't any grammatical errors and the word choice is also fine.
Overall, I'd definetly recommend if you are looking for a more serious pokemon fanfiction.
P.s.: what is that typhlosion on the cover art? The rest is fine, but what questionable website did you use for inspiration to get a drawing like that?

Interesting story, clearly backgrounds that matter for all characters involved and an author who seems capable of writing realistic dialogue (something that you can't take for granted on this site). Both Ranger and Child clearly have issues but this doesn't make the story an angst fest, so far. I can see the potential for the story to become mired in psychological trauma dumping though I don't think thewilliamspot1 will let that happen. There's some neat ideas about the reality of what would happen if an extinct hisuian Pokémon was apparently no longer extinct. I wish though that the communication between both MCs does increase soon, especially after the last crisis. Communication errors and misunderstandings are great for conflict, but they will devalue a story if that's where most of the conflict comes from.

    Chapter 21/Interlude
Hmmm, seems like a decent story with good language and thought behind the story. But it’s getting a bit too depressing for me. It kinda has that hit after hit feeling. Not to the mc only but to most of the focused characters. This is Pokemon. It's even a journey! It’s not even gritty and dark. It’s just kinda depressing lol. Everyone is making mistakes that they get all guilty and self blaming. It kinda feels like the trend is gonna get worse. I wanted a bit more wonder and hope. Instead of this doom and gloom and looming hardship with no light in the tunnel. The mc has issues, the ranger had issues, the ghost starter has issues, the Oshawott has issues, the new gym leader has issues, gah! Everyone is going through the wringer! They are all worried and anxious, constantly. The vibe feels hopeless. They keep trying and trying but life is just beating them down. Or through their own mistakes. Like wow. Too much for me sadly 😅
