A Prose of Years

Description
For decades, spiritualist Evert Kallstrom and his team have joined in humanity’s millennia-long fight against the beasts. Wielding their weapons and their ki, they fought and killed these great threats to civilization. And yet, despite their efforts, humanity was losing traction in the war. In the last fifty years alone, more cities had been overrun than in all of known history.
While most thought the great beasts natural, a few knew the terrible truth. They were the product of a dark lord, who desired neither fame nor wealth nor power. Instead, his sole purpose was the genocide of humanity.
While their peers dithered, a small faction of the strongest mankind had to offer—including Evert Kallstrom and his team—set out towards the Deadlands to find and confront this dark lord. After weeks of travel, twenty-one spiritualists found themselves approaching an ancient fortress wherein rested a being known only as the Eastern Guardian.
All they found was death.
But death has other plans for Evert.
Evert bolts awake in his 16 year old body near his hometown, decades in the past. He is confused, poor and weak. But with grit, sweat, and years of experience, hewon'tlet the future repeat itself. That level of strength won't be enough by itself (it wasn’t last time) and victory is hardly assured (he’ll need to reach farther and higher than he ever did), but Evert refuses to squander a second chance.

Volume 1 is complete and has been fully released. My current intention is not to write any sequel volumes. That said, I have also released appendices (SPOILERS) that cover the worldbuilding and future story-that-never-was.
Comments suggesting fixes for grammar, misspellings, etc. appreciated.
Note: If you came here fromCandlelit Lives, these stories have nothing in common.

- Blahh5542Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story isn't groundbreaking with a new take on the old reincarnation plot, but this is certainly one of the best versions of it I have come across. The plot has been flowing well, the worldbuilding is good, the characters are some of the more well developed that I have seen, and I actually believe that the main character is as old as the story tells us. If you are looking for a mature high-quality take on the old reincarnation as a younger version of yourself trope, I highly recommend it.
- Jupiter MaximusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been looking for something like this ever since I completed the Reborn Apocalypse series. There are only a few stories out there that has a similar plot, and the few I have read made me sick of them. To the point I actually took a break from reading. But reading this actually rekindled the fire to read again. It's very sad that the author has decided to abandon this world he has built. I sincerely wish he would reconsider his decision.
- never_gonna_give_you_upRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the most beautiful novellas I’ve read on this platform. Incredibly, it has a rather low rating and not nearly as many readers as it truly deserves. I stumbled upon it by chance while browsing through completed stories under the High Fantasy tag. It’s a real pity that the author chose not to continue, sharing with us the protagonist’s choices and journey. I truly hope that one day the author will decide to pick up this wonderful novel again.
- regikRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This story opens with a fairly stock-standard 'restart' blueprint and treads many of the well-worn cliches that come with the trope. However, it is mostly done well, so there isn't much to complain about as long as you aren't expecting anything super creative out of the plot. The style can get somewhat plodding at times (the author occasionally gets bogged down in describing every step of a process in detail even when it's not exactly super important) but the characters are pretty decently fleshed out, if still a little bland. I do like the interlude POV switches, they are a good change of pace.
All in all a good way to pass your time, but it doesn't do anything new. Work on the characters and the grammar (a few mistakes per chapter), tighten up the storytelling and you'll have a very easy-to-read style.
