Description

NOTE:Book 1 will betemporarilystubbing on Royal Road on May 10th. I'll be publishing it on KU, which requires exclusivity. However, I'll only be keeping it there for 3 months, after while I'll un-stub this story and bring back all the chapters in Book 1.

I'm currently writing Book 2, but the other series are taking priority right now, so it'll be a bit before it's out.

Revenge is a dish best served with poison.

Getting isekaied was a complete rip off. Sal doesn't have magic. No weapons or special skills. All she's got is some lousy Chef role that forces her to cook every day. She's been set up for the most boring reincarnation ever.

Unfortunately, the gods want her dead.

Lacking magic or superhuman strength, Sal puts her Chef role to use by brewing potions and poisons. If she can't fight a god, maybe she can assassinate one.

This is a spin-off book ofGlass Kanin.A Little Saltyis written as a stand-alone, so you do NOT need to have read Glass Kanin in order to enjoy this book. But you might catch some references and stitch together some mysteries if you do!

Recipe forA Little Salty:

- 1 Female MC who punches above her weight class- 0 cups of harem or romance (she's aro)- 3 Assassins, 1 poison affinity, and a bandolier of potions- A dash of humor and horror in equal parts- Genre settings: Isekai LitRPG

Okay, I love Sal and this story - but I feel like some people need to manage their expectations going in.
Sal is a heavily traumatized teenager in a world she barely understands up against impossible odds, and she acts like a heavily traumatized teenager in a world she barely understands up against impossible odds.
She is reckless, impulsive, and emotionally dysregulated - as anyone would be in her circumstances, but particularly as a child. She makes bad decisions and she knows they're bad, but they feel like the only ones she can make and it is heartbreaking because for these flaws she is also clever, mischievous, and deeply caring of the people around her even if she tries not to be.
Little Salty is a great expansion of the world established in Glass Kanin, and gives a good amount of hints towards events from the end of book 2 of Kanin. It has the same heart, intrigue, and humor in a fast paced dangerous world with an MC blazing from one reckless decision to the next in a desperate attempt to regain control over their life from seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Which is not to say Sal and Kanin are alike - other than the recklessness, anyway. Sal is her own person, with her own motivations, sense of humor, and baggage over her death in our world. Looking forward to more of this story, and more of the NPSeeds!

Going back and adding another 5 star . Really enjoyed the potion making here, and look forward to hopefully more tie in the chef role as the story moves forward. The family relationship between the inn and mc was appreciated and hope it carries forward. The poison affinity was well used in book one and has so many options for book two I'm excited to see what happens next

I had the lucky experience of getting to read this entire thing before it got posted. Sal is a wonderful protagonist and this world continues to wow me!
Style: I love Kia's voice. Their character's internal monologues always feel realistic in a world that's filled with a lot of things that aren't realism. They offer a down-to-earth running commentary and really bring us into the story and characters. To me, that voice is the best part of the story. It grounds the reader and makes us want to follow along with her tale.
Grammar score: It better be good, since I edited it. LOL
Story Score: This story is the perfect blend of funny mixed with really intense emotions and a roller coaster story of revenge in which everything about Sal as a person seems to get in the way of the one thing she wants more than anything. I definitely was on the edge of my seat, unsure of how things would turn out.
Character Score: I LOVE the characters in this story. Not only is Sal super relatable and raw, but I wanted a Gugora of my own. There are a lot of interesting twists here with characters that I don't want to spoil, but the characters that should be hated feel very, very hated, and the rest of the characters are so damn endearing.
I can't wait to see what Kia writes next.

I love this story and I love Sal! I am a member of the Patreon, so I was able to read ahead of the story posted here. I am also a fan of Glass Kanin, but Sal has stolen my heart.
Overall: I love all that I've read! It's a fun, exciting read. Sal makes me laugh, although the plot definitely takes darker turns, as befitting a story about a young assassin. I also love that it ties into Glass Kanin, but this story is strong on its own. I devoured the chapters available so far and eagerly await more.
Style: There's so much personality in these pages! Being in 1st person means we're right there in Sal's head, and we get to see her learning about the magic system and talking with echo. It's a lot of fun!
    Grammar: 10/10 No notes.
Story: What I've read has been a mix of amusing and thrilling. Sal is certainly ambitious in her desire for revenge, not to mention her quest for magic. I love how the story shows us how she levels up and begins her quest to take down the gods.
Character: Sal has so much personality!! I love her. Sometimes I also want to shake her, then I remember she's 18 and that checks out for some of her choices, haha. She's still a teen, although definitely learning how to carve out her own way in the world.  At the same time, she's smart. I won't spoil, but the way she utilizes what little she has (like one inventory spot) is fantastic. In any case, I love Sal, I want the best for her. And I would... probably not fight the gods for her, because some of them are scary, but I'll cheer her on while she does.

The story has struck a good balance of serious intriguing content and light hearted prose and internal dialogue. The characters feel natural and the world feels lived in, the writing really draws you into the world in these first few chapters by subtly calling attention to the depth of the world around our MC.
Very promising story, the author's style is good enough that I'll be checking out their other works.

I am thoroughly enjoying A Little Salty by Kia Leep!
I give it a genuine five stars across the board, because Kia deserves each one!
For context, I haven't read Kia's Kanin series (though after this I'm definitely checking it out!), so I come at this with Salty as my first foray into this exceptional world Kia has crafted. Kia did a wonderful job creating a stand alone store that weaves its way into the larger tapestry without making the reader feel lost because of their absence of lore.
I loved the protagonist, Sal. She's very much a teenager, and her attitudes, decisions, and emotions very much fit this. In some stories, 'teenagers' act like thirty year olds with perfect decision making and emotional control. Here, you actually feel Sal's age and see her rapidly grow, in the way any teenager might. It takes talent to pull this off, and Kia does it very well.
Something to remember about Sal. She isn't just a teenager, but one that had little hope of a future before arriving in this new world. The story, seen through those eyes, adds another layer to everything she does. I recommend keeping this in mind as you read.
The book itself is publishable quality. There are very few grammar mistakes and the flow is well executed. Kia lingers where time is needed, and accelerates when it is not. This is a practiced, professional author, and Salty reads as such.
The story is well done and engaging. I won't spoil the details here. There are fewer characters with greater depth, which I like better than a shallow cast of thousands. The system is solid and tested. There are subplots, and all link together as the main narrative progresses.
The action is done well. Deep enough to be engaging but short enough not to overstay its welcome. There are quiet moments and loud moments, funny moments and sorrowful ones, and they are written to compliment each other, giving life to the narrative. It has a clear beginning, middle, and end, and it's clear Kia came in to this with an understandi

    Plot
So far, the plot is pretty standard isekai fare with a smattering of heartwarming revenge. The author makes these tropes feel fresh, and that’s not an easy feat. I am a fan of isekais. I am a fan of revenge tales. This still feels like something new.
    World Building
The author does a great job showing and not just telling here while also not simply vomiting out a wall of text or spending a lot of time on it. Details are rich and sprinkled in with the action and made easily digestible while adding to the whole, not taking away from it. Pretty standard fantasy world, but they author presents their own twist on it and makes it feel interesting. The System is also very nicely done, presented through the Main Character’s eyes, and feels as though it has its own personality and sense of humor even if that’s only seen through the MC’s perspective on things. Great job.
    Characters
Sally, or “Sal”, the main character has a rich and vibrant inner world and every single character presented stands out as a distinct individual with their own mannerisms and their own voice, each one contributing to the advancement of the story in their own way with no fluff. Sal’s actions make total sense, her backstory was well done, her personality is enjoyable, you can follow her train of thought, making her feel like a real person, even through some of the more illogical things she does. Equal parts well meaning, intelligent (with little to no common sense),bratty, selfish, and kind. And funny to boot. She doesn’t appear to be a Mary Sue so far, and has been reasonably struggling.
    Writing Style
The author has talent, mechanics, and knows what they’re doing behind a keyboard. Their prose is well written, their descriptions apt, their flow smooth, sense of humor comical, and they manage to blend light-hearted moments with a little bit of grimdark without anything feeling cheapened by it.
    Conclusion
My only contention with this story so far is the initial appearance of the Champion (rather, S

The protagonist makes some of the worst decisions of any character I've seen. She constantly does things that harm people who have gone out of their way to help her, to the point where it makes her very unlikeable to me. It also breaks my suspension of disbelief. If you are
    being suspected of a murder,
    would you say
Yeah, I'm totally capable of killing someone!
It's just kind of absurd, and even for a sheltered protagonist, this level of impulsivity is too much for me. The quality of the writing otherwise is fine, but I'm not going to continue reading.

This story had lot of potential, but alas the MC is too emotional, more action less planning. The author could have added a chapter 0 explaining the whole parallel world system could have helped with the way some character are written. The novel is little fast paced MC could have planned a little longer
