A Druid Against Her Nature

Description

Tythia has done away with druids. They're gone. Exiled. Excommunicated. Personae not gratae. Unwanted.

That really sucks, because I am one.

Kinda.

I never wanted to speak to animals. I never cared all that much for plants, or grass, or... water? I don't know what druids like. Here I am, though. Right when I should be looking to settle down and start a family, my powers have decided to manifest in full-force.

Now I'm a taboo. I'm a criminal. I'm shunned.

Honestly? It's all pretty unfair.

You'll never meet a more reluctant druid than me.

    This is really well-written.
Plot-wise, It's a bit of a "slow burn" kind of story that takes time to really get into, but I think it's worth it given how the world of Tythia is unveiled to you through the eyes of Mel as she goes about her life. Helps a ton that the prose is mostly very well phrased and written, with only the rare awkward sentence here and there. The stakes (at least where I've read so far) aren't too high just yet (it's mostly slice-of-life so far), but it's fun taking in the world bit by bit.
The characters are fun and interesting, and the conversations between them flow really, really well and naturally in terms of back and forth, quips, retorts... it's quite a treat to follow, and I found myself chuckling at some of the snarkier verbal exchanges.
That said, I would have preferred it if the author would capitalise terms like "Druid" and "Mom" and "Dad" to give more weight to them. Especially Druid! It's not a big deal and might be a stylistic choice of the author, but it would be nice if it was as such.
Overall, I'd recommend giving this story a try if you like slice-of-life medieval settings... though the plot may develop towards who-knows-what. But that's why you should read it and find out!
