A Dream of Magic - Harry Potter Fanfic
Community Rating
Description
An obsessive and disillusioned veteran is born again in the wizarding world where he can finally live out his childhood dreams that he never truly outgrew. But it is not all sunshine and rainbows, all the horror of the second wizarding war lies in his future just as scars of the first mar his past. Yet before that comes to pass he must first survive the wizarding world's most prominent school of witchcraft and wizardry, with all its dark secrets, armed and poorly supervised children, and shady teachers.
Set two years above Harry Potter and his friends, with a focus on a more realistic wizarding world and exploring magic beyond words and wands.
The tags are there mostly for the later years when the world takes a turn for the worse. There will be no Harems or sexual content, though there may be some romance much later on.

- CreestawlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's creative, unique, well-written, well-planned, well done.
The isekai'd MC is realistically ahead of his peers without being OP. He has goals, strengths, and weaknesses. He makes mistakes and he has successes. The balance is refreshing!
The story includes foreshadowing, mystery, and a blessed actual plotline. The diction is nice without being overly pompous or heavy. The grammar is great, with only a few minor errors.
My disappointment about the hiatus is immeasurable. But--- in an overabundance of optimism fueled by my disappointment--- I have pressed the "Follow" button.
Thank you for the chapters you have written so far! Please consider continuing it. - IxtaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very compelling start to a new HP fanfic. I'm really liking the main character so far. I think the author hit a nice balance for having an adult's experiences inside the brain and body of a child. He's also written as being smart, proactive, and passionate. There's a dark side there, but it doesn't seem like the story will go dark immediately, and I'm looking forward to seeing the MC get to experience some childlike wonder and experiment with his magic before you-know-who shows up again and bad stuff inevitably happens. I'm not sure how to describe the style, but I found it very immersive and each sentence and idea flowed smoothly.
- nekolordRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly I have nothing to critique. the author has made a wonderful world and the characters are believable. Unlike the norm for these kinds of books which id compare to junk food. Aka you'd never eat a particular potato chip and think of how delicious or fresh or how well prepped it is. Just noticing if one has an increased amount of seasoning. This is like having an actual meal. Every part seems well thought out. there is no "I must urgently gain power to do something!!!" This is closer to what I'd expect the experience to actually be like if I was reincarnated into the hp universe. The MC has a family he cares for. We are trapped in his head and it's normal! I don't know where to draw the line for when authors focus so much on their goals their characters aren't actually present in any of their interactions. He's made friends and interacted with his family and not to further the plot. He has emotional and physical needs. So I like it a lot. Thank you for making a wonderful world. Not enough world count so... Glob glob glob glob glob glob glob glob glob glob glob glob glob
- aenirRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Reviewed as of Chapter 2. Just the kind of HP fiction I like. Realisitic (although obviously its still magic) exploration of magic. No noticable errors and the story seems to flow well. Characterisation is simple yet effective so far, looking forward to other characters being more realised once MC gets to school and makes friends (and enemies!). Altogether a solid start that leaves me wanting more.
