Description
When a lost soul drifting in the Void floats too close to a new universe, it finds itself drawn in, bound to a new life, and reborn as a human. With his previous life's memory long since decayed from long exposure to the nothing that lies between realities, the newly born Robin has no idea of his alien heritage. At least, until unlock day, when the System that pervades his new home informs him in no uncertain terms that his soul is far from local, and that with his heritage comes the promise of power, as every drop of experience is magnified by the echoes of what has been lost. However, potential can be a double-edged sword. With the promise of future strength, but lacking ability in the here-and-now, Robin is viewed as little more than a valuable tool for his social superiors to obtain, mould, and use for themselves. Protecting his family and retaining his freedom will involve walking a tightrope, should he wish to make use of his gifts, particularly when the jealously of others throws carefully laid plans into disarray. This is a slow paced, somewhat crunchy litRPG, with many blue sarcasm-less boxes. There is a single male lead with no romance or harem. The MC generally works alone, grouping up only for short periods. He's generally 'good', but has no objection to taking lives in defence of himself or others. Story length is intended to be approximately one million words, split into volumes of approximately 100k. The story's System starts off with little flexibility, but opens up at higher levels. New chapters Tuesday/Friday 5AM UK time. Only published here, Scribble Hub, cathfach.co.uk, and Amazon. (Amazon is volume 1 only) Anywhere else is stolen.

- BerderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author is doing it intentionally, and it's fun to read.
It's a comedy of errors. MC awakens the power to get levels, stats, and skills much more rapidly than everyone else, but he's just a dumb serf kid with little sense. The theme so far has been bad decision after bad decision.
He's been warned that the powers that be will notice his anomalous power and make him work for them, or kill him to prevent his rise. So he should hide it until he can get away, but he doesn't. This leads to him being forced to flee under the worst possible conditions later.
He spends his first skill points on farming to get XP a little faster when he could have instead just waited an extra week, and with his growth power he should have known he wouldn't be farming for too long. This leads to his discovery by the powers that be.
He is rapidly discovered by a talent scout. The smart play at this point is to act like he has lower stats than he does, so he doesn't seem quite so anomalous. He knows this but completely fails at it, barely making an effort.
He is fooled into taking a peasant's spear, when as a serf he is not allowed to carry weapons, and using it to farm the dungeon. This leads to him having to become a fugitive.
He spends more skill points impulsively on stuff like cooking and fishing that doesn't really help him.
He slaughters goblins, who seem more like an indigenous tribe minding their own business than nasty monsters.
When trying to sneak out of a bandit camp, he stabs a hostage in the throat to stop her from screaming, gaining a Murderer mark, instead of taking any sensible precautions like gagging her or even just threatening her not to scream.
I'm sure he's going to make a lot more questionable decisions. He's a bumbler. Bad things are going to happen to him, and he's a bad thing that's going to happen to others. Nonetheless, morbidly entertaining to read! - GorrionRojoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0MC is dumb as a bag of bricks. But he gets better. Eventually. Slowly.

It gets a lot better as the story progresses. I guess the author is trying to reflect how a kid grows and learns. - RubyARoseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Im in absolute love with this book. From one S**t show to another. I relate to the MC in an odd distorted way no matter how much he pushes forword not giving up its just s**t shows that life seem to love to throw around. Please dont drop this book.
- khorzonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not cathfach's best story by any means but its very enjoyable and definitely within the top 1% of numbah go up system slop stories on royal road. That said if this wasn't written by this author I wouldn't have bothered with it. Still worth your time if this kind of story is your thing but its not anywhere as interesting as most of the authors other stories. I am sure it will go to off the wall to crazy bizzare fun town at some point but it hasn't come anywhere close yet so maybe wait till its finished before giving it ago.
- swordchucksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a well-written story that has an MC that's at least mostly likeable. Certainly, the MC makes poor choices, but they're usually realistic choices for the experience and knowledge the MC has at the time. It's also enjoyable how the world is experiencing issues without going grimderp on the protagonist and instead gives the protagonist incentive and opportunities to grow. There are also forces at play behind the scenes that have so far been interesting without being overpowering.
- CatgurlRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Very entertaining. Great pacing, good plot, plenty of action, good humor, interesting characters and world.
Lighter in tone than most, which I consider a huge plus. Many stories take themselves too seriously; appreciate this one does not do that.
MC is quite likeable. He also has plenty of common sense, intelligence and humor which greatly ups my enjoyment of the story.
Prose is solid, good spelling and grammar. Zero filler.
This is a great read. I like this story so much that I am now going to look for the author's other books asap.
