Wow what a ride. This story starts out grounded and almost slice-of-life, only to spiral into a gripping, nightmarish mystery. The pacing is excellent: what begins as an unlucky, almost comedic evening quickly turns into a tense survival thriller, then transitions seamlessly into a dark, supernatural mystery with hints of fantasy or horror.
The author does a great job keeping the reader inside Rio’s head his sarcastic, self-aware narration adds realism and humor even as the situation becomes more terrifying. The shift from a mundane robbery to waking up in an underground torture chamber and then a strange, possibly magical manor feels natural thanks to that consistent voice.
World-building is teased just enough to spark curiosity without dumping exposition, and the final reveal of the amulet and ASPECT/ESSENTIA system promises something much bigger. The writing style is immersive, tense, and cinematic it really sells Rio’s confusion, fear, and determination.
In short: great pacing, immersive atmosphere, believable protagonist, and a fantastic blend of thriller, horror, and mystery with a sudden fantasy twist. Can’t wait to see where this goes next.
