The grammar was generally good, a few errors here and there but nothing that totally pulled me out of the story.
There was some lovely world building but you kept certain details shrouded in mystery which I appreciated a lot, I like to think about the origins and reasons myself while I'll seeing the story unfold.
I think your writing style works for this kind of sequence. I'd like a follow up!
