- BookwormSophieRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'll admit up front that I'm a huge fan of non-human main characters. They tend to give a perspective you wouldn't otherwise get and this story accomplishes it really well. From the foreign biology or a race made of fire, to their unique cultural values that arise from that, there's a lot of interesting and thought out aspects to it that I cannot recommend enough.
Solvei, the main character, is also very well written, especially for a child character. I usually don't like child characters much, they often don't really feel believable as a child, or their childishness tends to become the primary part of the story. I'm happy to report that isn't the case with Solvei, she has a nice blend of childish naivity and rationality that works well for a main character, and the more unbelievable aspects of it are easily smoothed over by the fact that she's not a human.
The only part I don't like as much is that nothing really seems to be working out well for Solvei. Every time she seems to be settling in well every thing is ripped away from her, which is fine for the first few times. But it's get a little grating after a while. Thankfully this looks to finally be changing, so don't let that stop you from reading this story. Even with the flaw, it's a phenominal story, and in my opinion an absolutely must read if you want to read something unique.
(Hopefully) happy reading! - Dramatic GoblinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fascinating setting and story have got me so invested in always seeing what comes next!! The setting is nothing like other fantasies, but the worldbuilding is phenomenal. You learn the dynamics of the world along with the main character as she goes on her journey. The main character is a child forced into the world early but she is neither unrealistically mature nor frustratingly childish.
- Falling LeavesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Young Flame follows a little girl who loses everyone she had known her entire life. More than that, they live out in a hostile wilderness, and she is now left alone and injured, trying to survive. The author leaves you cheering her on as she struggles to make her way.
Everything is in 1st person, which I personally don't usually like. I find that usually makes for chapters that are 50% introspection, and unnatural inner dialogue. But not Young Flame, the author uses it very well to tell the story from the pov of the protanist. She is young, and her pov constantly reflects that, from the way she sees things to her reactions.
There are a lot of natural descriptions, as seen through her eyes, which give the reader a very genuine feel for the story. Even when finding a wooden boat, the girl is certain it must be for shelter, what else would a large structure be for?
The story is different, which I like. The girl, Solvei, lives in the middle of the desert, but unlike what you'd expect, needs to avoid water. Many things that are usually overlooked are depicted very well. Despite danger from hostile groups and the impact that has on their decisions, they suffer far more from the environment. The author clearly has some experience on a few different things described, due to the technical aspects being so clearly described.
He also seems to have experienced loss before. So many stories, and even blockbuster movies, have hollow feeling cliche experiences with losing loved ones. Solvei experiences those things in such a natural way - the 1st chapter was rough, but in a good way!
Other questions are raised as well, such as what is that boat mentioned earlier doing in the middle of a sandy desert? The world seems much larger than what has been shown. Major world events also impact her.
The grammer is good, I have no real comments to make there. It flows nicely, and the pace is also done well.

And the only word that I think can get close enough is MARVELOUS. Usually I would rate a story once I get to about chapter 30-60, somewhere in-between there. But this story was so good that I had actually forgot to rate it and accidentally binged red it until I was at the newest chapter release of the book.
Style: Once again, the only word I got to describe the authors style is MARVELOUS. The authors style is unique and very descriptive, yet also fairly easy to understand and comprehend. There wasn't a single mistake that I could find in this authors style that would downgrade my rating in any way, this book it truly fabulous with an even more amazing author.
Story: Once again, no complaints. This story is definitely a honest page turner. It has kept me on the edge of my seat with almost every chapter, it is to the point where I am constantly checking up on the book now for any new chapters being released. Simply fantastic.
Grammer: There hasn't been a single mistake that I could find, no misplaced commas, no capitalization or spelling errors. No Grammer errors. NOTHING. This author has obviously practiced there writing and that just makes the story so much better.
Characters: Finally, we come to my favorite scoring part of this story. All I can say is this Storys characters are phenomenal. Are young flame character is quite unique with how she interacts with the world around her. Through out the story there has been multiple shifts in personality which actually relfect on what I think would actually happen if these events happened in real life. I also like how the author made it to where the race of out young flame can almost eat anything as long as there fire is hit enough, which actually makes quite a bit of sense. Then there are titans, natural disaster monsters that leave destruction wherever they go, this is definitely my favorite part of the story and characters. Monsters th - IstaNonCuroRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Young Flame is a story about a little girl from a race of, for all intents and purposes, fire elementals loosing her tribe and trying to find place to live in the often quite hostile world. This of course ends up being everything but easy in a world where basically any weather is deadly, a lake might as well be filled with acid, and we have very much a not-modern mindset/culture where things like racism or war are not only common but completely normal.
The writing style is great, the story flows overall pretty well, things are described vividly without being too wordy, one feels the emotions, and especially the younger perspective is depicted very well; just read the first chapter as an example.
Grammar is largely good but the author slips from present into past tense very often in the first half of the story. This gets definitely corrected later on and they also intend to go over the earlier chapters again, so this might be fixed pretty soon.
The story flows overall pretty good and definitely kept me interested. It didn't blow me away, so don't expect deep mysteries, multilayered plots, or utterly unexpected twists, but it is solid, interesting, and overall a fun read.
I think some readers complained that
our main character's life gets upended too much, but I never got that impression personally; in my opinion it is more like the opposite; she struggles surprisingly little for how hostile the world is in theory to her.
So I wouldn't consider that really a negative, it's more subjective taste.
The World itself is great and colourful; it gets slowly revealed and it feels like the author put effort and thought behind it. From geography, to cultures, to races, to technology/magic, it just ends up being new and interesting while still fitting together. Things often end up influencing/causing each other and this leads to the world feeling alive and not just centered on the MC. Worldbuilding is always one of my favourite things in stories and I am definitely interested in - LojalRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a rather well written book. Personally, I am an avid reader and would say this fiction reaches close to the peak of royal road. Potentially it could even hold its own among professionally published, edited, and proofread books. I really like it that this novel manages to have progression in a way that avoids the often used method of just slapping in an lottos element.
- MillowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is absolutely amazing, it immediately hooks you in with emotional scenes, combat, and shitloads of fun. The story is a bit slow however it keeps you hooked with small moments of emotion or combat.
The combat is amazing putting solvei through real challenges and forcing her to think of ways out of them. Just because she can use fire doesn't mean she is strong and through the beginning of the story she doesn't have many chances to use it too fight. She also loses plenty of times, it's not annoying to read though because it puts the story into a more emotional state and allows for great charecter development.
The world is very unique, the author Cleary put lots of thought into it because the races are more unique than most stories I've seen, with many of them having unique cities, culture, and technology. If you love adventure you will immediatly get addicted to this.
If you're not into stories that can be sad and sometimes lighthearted, with plenty of moments meant to make you cry then you probably won't like this story, but if you like both emotion and wonderful fight scenes with adventure, them this story is for you.
The main highlight is the progression seeing the main charecter change in so many ways is exciting and satisfying, seeing her go from the weak and ignorant little girl into an powerhouse was fun, which is something not a lot of stories are good at, being just tons of fun.
Overall one of the best stories I've read on this site, can't wait for future chapter. This is a hidden gem and deserves far more attention than it currently has. - OfficerDataRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A pleasant surprise,i was just random searching for a good read when i stumbled upon this novel.I don't know exactly how to explain why this novel works out for me and others don't.There are lots of attempts at writing progression fantasy, but a lot of them fail at some point, just don't add much to nothing. This one is good.Style is good.Character-check.Fanatsy world immersion-check.Nice powers-check.Logical thinking and appropiate response to trauma,losses,revenge,action-reaction check.
It is a gift to be able to grasp readers interest on what will happen with our mc,to hold your breath when she's in dire situations,a good balance between cliffhanger and rewarding outcomes, feeding readers with rewarding progress, character growth, actions, and very important the world and overall context is very interesting without being fed info-dump style AT ALL.And all this while keeping an easy and pleasant prose, with non-pretentiously high bullshit useless literary accolades that some authors use thinking it somehow upgrades the novel's level.Very easy to read, follow actions, fights, even for non english natives
Also, this one is subjective,i like bad ass female leads, not that i'm a feminist or something.
I thing the author left a lot of open doors to worldbuilding and probably huge fanatsy world, races etc,by not feeding too much information about politics, magic, races, giving enough though so we can picture very well the actual present situation and context mc is in.
Anyway, for me it's a good one,and even if some things are not 100% logical and literary style is far from a Stephen King,it is really good,i'm thankful for the nice time i spent and keep spending, especially when it's FREE.Nice job, writing so much and structuring and building all this ...is huge work.👍 - ReddeathstarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I honestly regret ever thinking that this story would be uninteresting before reading it because it was such a great and fun story to read and has me hoping to see more. Also really need to complement the world building that I saw as I read and how things in the world changed based on certain events.
- always_stays_loyalRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is great. all of the creatures and sapient species and locations are incredibly creative and unique, the magic system is clearly well thought out, the grammar is great and any mistakes are few and far between, the characters are well written and enjoyable to read, the overarching storyline is interesting and the pacing while a bit faster than I’m used to is still incredibly enjoyable, the story can be a bit depressing in the earlier part where it seems like it’s just bad thing after bad thing, but that evens out into a nice mix after a little bit. overall this story is great and I highly recommend giving it a try.
