- OwenHGRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This is a great first story.
Firstly, it demonstrates the writer's ability to see out a full story, something only a small percentage of writers do and should be celebrated.
The story here keeps it focus tight, on a small core group of characters. In doing so it plays on the author's strong points, characterisation and dialogue.
On the flip side action scenes are skills you see develop in real time throughout the story. They start out lacking and fill out as the story goes on.
Personal preference, but for my reading sensibilities I would have preferred chapters being consolidated. Fewer but longer chapters and more scene work would have given additional room for relationships to breath in my opinion.
The quick resolution at the end further cements that the story's propose is the journey not the destination. You could broaden your appeal to fans of plot like myself by ensuring the story plays out alongside character arcs.
Ultimately, this story leaves a lot of promise that I'm sure the writers next fictions will build on.
