Description
When our heroine awakens, she's rather surprised. First, because she used to be a he. And second, because she's living out a jrpg script!
Now she's trying to figure out how to prevent the oncoming adventure, while she just desperately wants to live as normal a life as possible, while figuring out how she got here and how she can go home again.
The trouble is, she keeps having these pesky adventures...
Updates on Mondays.
The story seems to have gotten a little more serious and darker as its gone along, but the comedy returns slowly.

- terriblypandaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First off, I'm not that good at english (not my first language) so grammar is out of my review range. And now for the review,
It's good, I like the pacing. It's a fun read. The story is interesting enough despite the author's claim on the synopsis. The worldbuilding that has been shown is interesting enough for a webnovel with a 30 or so chapter (the latest available chapter at the time of writing) (534 pages). Especially regarding the jrpg theme/mechanic.
The characters, backgrounds, and plots are also of the jrpg theme and using them absurd yet funny jrpg mechanics as an excuse.
It's not often found and I find myself enjoying it a bunch. It's a parody of the genre (tho admittedly I've nvr played any jrpg, A friend has been recommending me octopath traveler, I think it's jrpg?)
Ah, there are also some references that I don't quite catch. I think it was ff reference or some kind. Never played those tho, sry
Anyway, this webnovel is good, you should give it a try. - KanzibrixRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So I have just finished this wonderful story.
Somehow, it takes an entirely rote plot and makes it no longer trite! If you ever thought "why do they do that during jrpgs or anime, well this story asks" what if they knew that".
Style wise, it was an engaging story, well paced, with definitive arcs (much like an anime, waggles eyebrows). The vast majority of it is in third person limited, focusing on the character of lily Anna.
Story wise, it tells a very neatly laid out "collect x macguffins" plot in a genuinely interesting way. Even if the characters were being railroaded by "the plot" at least they complained the whole way, making it deliciously self aware.
Character wise is the only category I am taking off points (and only 0.5 at that). My only concern is how... neatly, the whole genderbend concept goes away. Lily lived an entire life as a person, and it seems as tho that is only briefly touched on. It's shown early in the story, with minor explorations of dysphoria, uncomfortableness with "het" attractions, culminating with her asking the "other self" to let them feel it again... and then it's sort of, just dropped. Or waaaay less prominent. It's not satisfactorily solved in my opinion. The romance that follows is perfectly fine! There's absolutely nothing wrong with how the rest of the character development works out, and the interplay between all the "roles" that each character plays works out great, it's just there doesn't seem to be any point to the genderbend, they just become a 80/20 mix of base lilyanna with a tiny smidgen of modern "guy" traits, plus the out-of-context knowledge. It's disappointing.
Grammar wise it's perfectly acceptable. I don't think the author has a dedicated editor, and I'm not saying they need one, but every author benefits from a good edit. A few mistakes here and there, not enough to detract from the overall experience. - APrettyFableRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've just binged the whole thing (so far) and this is a pretty fun ride! Having a great time and looking forward to more!
The worldbuilding has a perfect mixture of simple and fleshed out, it really sells the classic JRPG experience. The main character struggling against her inherent nature and meta-knowledge is also a real treat, especially when the two are in perfect agreement. The author clearly has a consistent view of how magic and technology works in their story, even if the characters do not, and that's something I've always enjoyed. It makes paying attention to the little details that much more rewarding.
Overall, a simple and fun romp that occasionally dips into PG13 darkness - entirely appropriate to the inspired roots of the story. This sincerely made me want to go back and play Final Fantasy 9, Lunar: Silver Star Story, or Arc the Lad. - TheDragonBeyondTheGateRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's an interesting beginning, with the world literally dragging our protagonist along. So far the biggest issue is that it's just that, the world dragging them along. It can work for a while, but at some point soon they need to start asserting control over the world instead of having it control them, or else they're not really a protagonist.
- cezyouRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Firstly, it's finished. So that's a huge positive. Secondly, it knows what it is (a lighthearted and lightly plotted romp through a faux JRPG setting). And thirdly, the genderbend is reasonably well incorporated in the character development and the overarching plot. The story theoretically could have been written without it, but it's improved by that inclusion, which is fairly rare for the tag.
The prose is competent, the characterization isn't too deep, the setting is appropriately imaginative while maintaining some derivativeness for trope-awareness purposes. The main weakness of the story is the lightness and relatively scarcity of the antagonists. They're theoretically plotting away, offscreen, but they don't get a lot done, so the protagonist is mostly opposed by the dungeons. My main wish would be to receive a slightly longer denouement, but most plot threads are resolved within their own arcs, so it's not truly necessary. - coldsonataRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have to admit, this webnovel does not have the most stellar of beginnings. The start of the story is loosely written, and lacks the tight focus that the later chapters have. With the slow update schedule, long chapter lengths, minimal litrpg elements, and the added genderbent subplot, the story lacks the reach to gather a larger audience on this site.
However, the writing and plot quickly ties itself together after the 12th or so chapter. The cast is made up of an interesting set of characters, and although most of the character development so far have been with the main character, there are many crumbs and threads littered around by the author regarding the rest of the cast.
The writing itself is solid, and the plot focuses more on internal than physical/external conflicts. (Once again not being Royal Road preferred material.)
Some plot direction spoiler that I'm picking up on, that may be a deal breaker for some potential readers:
The main character looks like they would be paired with the male lead romantically. It's not a guarantee that it would happen, but it does look like that's how the plot thread is going to go. I expected to not like a development like this, given the main character's initial gender, but the author writes it in a natural and well done manner that I was brought around. Should it happen, I would have no qualms with it.
If you've somehow stumbled onto this story, give it a shot. It's pretty good. - shleyal19Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just caught up to the most recent chapter as of writing this review. The author made an incredible piece of work with this story so far, and I’m highly anticipating what twists and turns will come next. The plot starts, and is “generally following”, as a chrono trigger/Final Fantasy type of JRPG, with the usual fare of story events, such as, but not limited to,
evil empires totally definitely destroying their starter villages for plot reasons, plucky young heroes scampering about trying to save the world from an inevitable disaster, and mysterious magitech precursor civilizations/gods providing both extra powers and more gasoline to the whole dumpster fire that is the poor life of these very same plucky heroes…
But this time, something is a bit different in the plot! The protagonist is a reincarnated guy stuck in the body of the stereotypical super sweet naive healer white mage love interest heroine of the soon-to-arrive main hero! With the start to the plot kicking off in only a few days! The genre-savvy reincarnator, knowing how this stuff tends to go down, is desperately gonna look for a way to derail the story before it even starts, and maybe he will figure out how to get back to his old body without having to go on a single stupid adventure!
hah, who are we kidding, of course everything will go horribly wack. But… just maybe (with a heaping dose of luck, ingenuity, bending of tropes and plot knowledge, and a whole lot of panicking) it could go wack not in ways the plot expects… No spoilers though!
Characters and worldbuilding are all very well made and expertly fleshed out, and evolve and grow over the course of the story while still staying true to their expected tropes and roles somewhat, including side characters.
Expect the protagonist and her party to figure out/attempt to work around the plot with the unmatched power of friendship, rigging the persuasion rolls, and immense frustration at the inevitable questlines and challenges as the team progresses ever - NKugisakiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Will read through the rest. Not cheugy so far... me like. Looking for the next Shiori Tsuzuki and maybe this is it. Keep seeing more of the same and like seeing some original content which is much needed in this area. From what I have read so far, it seems to be a original and not a rewrite of previous story with a twist.
