- Felix HelixihareRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is written in a very similar style to a fairy tale. It has a simple woodland creature who gets embroiled in what appears to be fairy shenanigans.
Style: As previously said, this story reads like a fairy tale to me. It uses mundane animals and sprinkles a little mystical over it. It reads like an old story that someone reads to their children.
Story: The story itself is very simple. It's a bog standard fairy tale plot, and it executes this well. Wulver is a simple forest dwellers that gets tasked to go to a magical journey to fix the weather. There's little else to distract the story from this focus.
Grammar: Impeccable. There's little for me to comment here. I like it. The way the words flow and the such.
Character: Wulver is simple and also mysterious. He lives in the woods and likes to fish, and there's little else we know about him. The other forest creatures flesh out his personality, giving us an impression of what he's like to other creatures. He is kind and generous and a bit fearful. That's pretty archetypal for a fairy tale protagonist. We'll see whether he begins demonstrating trickster qualities. - MK bk-201Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall a fun and entertaining story about a ¿Man or Wolf? who is just chilling in his cabin in the woods which its not at all dangerous when he is the one feeding the bears and the ocassional fox, atleast not until an ancient undead king wants to take over the island and he is the only one sentient enough to care of it.
- SchroedingersBandRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Every story deserves at least one review.
Style: Like the title suggests, Wulver reads like if Ernest Hemingway, or maybe Jack London, wrote a fantasy adventure novel, someone like that. It's got a real focus on nature and imagery, actions and scenery are beautifully rendered in old vernacular, yet the dialogue and Wulver's own voiced lines don't suffer for it. Love it. 5/5 stars.
Grammar: Absolutely nothing wrong here, not even with the more obscure words. 5/5 stars.
Story: The only part I have any real issue with, but it's only because the author hasn't written enough. The author introduces our titular character Wulver without dumping out unwanted info, and progresses the story in a way that doesn't feel overly rehashed. 4.5/5 stars.
Character: Wulver's personality, beyond anything else, is believable and consistent. He's someone who lives, on his lonesome, on an island. He talks to animals, he sings to himself, he's self-reliant, and he is fair. Wonderful. Not to discount the animals themselves; they have their own personalities that make you feel attatched to them as if they were real, too. And the Dullahan! Marvelous. The author makes great use of his limited cast and it shows. 5/5 stars.
Overall: This is the kind of story I've sorely missed, and if you're looking for something new to pick up, this one's a real diamond-in-the-rough. 5/5 stars! Please post more often!
