- Matthew Nesheim (died Jan '24)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very fun cultivation story with a believable Main Character and a solid supporting cast. Chapters are good length and so there’s a lot to dive into here.
The protagonist, Xu Yue, is interesting as she basically starts as a complete novice and then progresses. Trained at first by her father, Xu Chou, in swordsmanship, the story begins slowly as Xu Chou trains his daughter in various sword techniques. So while there is some action here, it’s all focused on Xu Yue’s training. In Chapter 8, she begins her first trial and here we finally start to see the results of all of Xu Yue’s hard training. This is where we get our first epic sword battle of the story and I feel like it’s a really solid payoff.
I also think the authors has a very good sense of her characters and knows how to write good dialogue. This really helps as the characters and plot develops throughout the story. There’s a lot of good action here and I like how the MC develops. The author also has a lot of solid supporting characters around Xu that help showcase her personality as well as their own.
Overall, I think this is a very strong cultivation story with a believable MC and a lot of fantasy centered action. - RemBestGirlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, like always when I write a review. I am not the best one doing this and I hope it comes off good.
This is an extremely fun story, and since I'm not someone that actually looks for grammatical errors I have never found a problem with them in this story. Every Chapter has a good length and there are some interesting fluffy moments, the story doesn't particularly push itself into going as fast as possible to the end and the MC doesn't always progress in cultivation every chapter, if you don't like overpowered characters then this story is not for you. But if you don't have a problem with them and a lot of information fortunately not in the form of info dumps then yuo will enjoy this story - MichaelosRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall - The premise is somewhat a standard cultivation novel.
The cultivation systems are there, the background and the supporting cast is fleshed out, but might need slight polish.
The story follows Xu Yue's life from the day she was born to a powerful sword sect, and continues from there to above and beyond.
Grammar & style I have no complaints about the grammar, and the fic is easy to read and get into. There are some typos and some sentences could be constructed a little better, but it does not affect the overall experience.
Story and character What I would like to see is some naivety of the MC and some childish features: Even the super smart children would have things they don't fully understand, or why they are supposed to do something.
I am only somewhat familiar with the genre, but personally it would be rewarding to see the journey and the developement itself.
From somewhat clueless young child progressing and maturing to where-ever the author is intending to go, the supporting cast is also there to guide her way.
I just hope that Yun Che is not the same as he is in Against the gods superharem playboy.
Reviewing at ch 8, and so far it is light-hearted progression cultivation with the basics and foundation there. If you are a fan of eastern cultivation progression fantasy, this might be just for you. - green_nightmareRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Well story is pretty basic but flows nicely. grammar could be better. While not at the start later on has a lot of POV shifts. The main problem is for me that there are multiple shifts in a single chapter and new POVs while staying around get thrown in without any introduction making it hard to know why their POV is relevant for anything.
now that i reached ch 306 might as well update this one. a lot of stuff happens offscreen like
she gave up painting after that attack from the immortal when her potential was unleashed. didn't notice until it she said that ~80ch later. hard to notice since all her time is basically was in seclusion with few breaks to see what happend outside.
or why yue (heart demon) went to the void until it no longer matters anymore
most of the pov shift still seems to not matter atleast the ones of ling siblings, li fengfeng and xia jingfei
ling sibling only talk about provoking people and stealing stuff, li fengfeng about hunting xia jingfeng and xia jingfeng about being hunted and list of forces she killed
the interesting povs are the ones of the numbers since they atleast have world building and plot.
oh and xu yue mellowed out a lot
seems to have given up on conquering her master (said it's dark history). the fox is the last waifu to join her until around chapter 300. well she regains her shamelessness atleast when
she gets pregnant herself
still a good read but from what the story is right now most other povs are meaningless (i skipped all from the 4 above this reread and didn't notice missing any world building or anything important) the few from meng ling (formation girl) and qing son (axe guy) are pretty ok since they only have like 3-4 have some interesting stuff but nothing important. pretty sure dai jin (spear guy) also isn't important - FlamingFalconRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I've made it quite far. Not sure how many chapters. (But it's a fair few), note I think that having some form of numbers be it for Arc 1, 2, 3, 4 etc or for each chapter would be a nice addition. It can be easy to get lost.
Anyway, I quite enjoyed the story. Which follows a Young master type lady as she embarks on the path of seeking power. The naïveté she shows as well as the deep yet shallow things she does where her age and sheltered upbringing comes through is quite funny.
The characters personalities seem well thought out as does the direction. However the story just feels like it's missing something, kinda like it's got the skeleton and most organs, but it's missing the skin, blood and maybe the liver or something.
There is a clear well thought out path, but in each "impactful" event there is a lack of tension to depth and they get kinda glossed over. It's more like x happens that was bad, rather than explaining the situation and making it feel tense and difficult.
It's similar with the characters, they all have well defined characteristics and personalities. Including how they interact, but there is a lack of substance to make you actually care about said characters.
It has the light humour and general entertainment, but lacks the hook or specialty. Which if added would definitely make this novel a solid contender.
By no means is it bad. As it's a rather chill read to just pass time. And it's worth a go. But it lacks something to make it memorable. - YulweiRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5It's an interesting story with interesting ideas, characters, concepts and events. It definitely scratches an itch for an overpowered Xianxia MC but it has several flaws that leave me scratching my head.
1. It gets very horny randomly and seemingly without warning
2. Several things are never explained like what you heart demon trying to seduce you means
3. Characters just pop into the story like we should know who they are but who they are was never explained
4. A very unclear distinction between events actually happening and illusions happening in trials or elsewhere
I'll keep reading the story but these niggles are building up and I could see them eventually making me drop the story - BookmanRoyal Road★★★ 2.5I give the avarage story on RR 2,5 Stars.
A 5 Star would be a Masterpiece. The Apex of what a story can turn into and a light for all to behold as a guide to strife for.
And this is avarage at least until chapter 4.
Story wise its the typical Cultivation story and not in a good way.
Personaly i think most culitavtion storys are 1 star at best.
The greatest difference here is that the author triees to be better.
I can see that.
He does try to use more dialog.
But the setup is still the typical Hyper Genius.
She speaks mostly like an adult. Still there are child like moments in there.
Grammer there are typical mistaces of punctioation and spelling errors.
I recommend to use grammerly. Even the free version would help a lot.
Style:
A lot Tell not show with needless bloated word count.
Again the author tries but it looks to me like he doesnt know how.
Read your chapters out loud.
If they sound a little bit off to you, then they sound compeltly off to the readers.
Character.
There is not mutch character until chapter 4.
The only thing we know is that our MC loves the sword.
Mostly by the author Telling us not showing us.
Same with the doting family.
Hell She is what 9 years old now and we still had not a singel interaction with her mother.
Slowing down to build your characters in actual character interactions stat of pure power progression is one of the difference between the avarage Cultivation novel and a masterfull one.
You can still use tell to skip over years or repeated power grind.
I still give 3 stars here as the Avarage of RR is sadly even worse then this.
---
Now as said in my comment im am brutaly honest.
I am also of the mind that high star reviews "to help the author" are most terrible thing a reviewer could do to an author.
Readers will enter the story with false expectations ending up in 0,5 star reviews.
I also said i will give you tools to improve.
